Nicole Kidman has joined her great friend Naomi Watts in Woody Allen's next picture according to Variety. It's the first time the pair have worked together in a significant capacity (Watts very briefly appeared in Kidman's 1991 comedy Flirting).

The pair were set to make Need, a thriller at Paramount for Nip/Tuck creator Ryan Murphy but for whatever reason, nothing has come of it yet.

The still yet untitled Woody Allen London set drama has possibly his most impressive cast to date. Alongside Kidman and Watts are Anthony Hopkins, Josh Brolin, Antonio Banderas and Freida Pinto.

What's so great about Woody Allen, is that whilst your getting excited for him to start working on one movie, you know he must have another ready to be unleashed upon us. On June 6th in the U.S. (we won't get it till February most likely) released will be Whatever Works, his movie with Larry David which Rope of Silicon have an extensive photo gallery.

Has Allen got any more big names up his sleeve for this movie?

Add Antonio Banderas to Woody Allen's London based drama to begin shooting this Summer.

Allen's next picture is turning into something of an International mix with a Brit (Anthony Hopkins), an American (Josh Brolin), an Aussie (Naomi Watts), an Indian (Freida Pinto) and now a Spaniard (Antonio Banderas).

Do we have room for a French man or lady?

An Audrey Tautou or a Vincent Cassell?

I think we have more casting to come for this picture, so stay tuned!

... and Aussie actress Naomi Watts have joined Woody Allen's currently untitled ensemble drama according to Variety.

Josh Brolin and Anthony Hopkins as we announced two weeks ago will also star.

The movie will mark Allen's return to London after briefly leaving the country for VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA and his next movie WHATEVER WORKS, a dark love triangle comedy which stars Larry David & Evan Rachel Wood.

SMART AS HELL choice from Pinta to work with Allen this early in her career and as her follow-up to the massive press she has gotten for SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE. Allen will treat her well, she's in very good hands here.

Woody Allen has landed Josh Brolin and Anthony Hopkins for this next movie according to Variety.

Well, I say "next movie", if your in the U.K. his "next" movie is VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA as it doesn't open till Friday. Which is a pretty cool movie by the way and is well worth your time, not least because Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz make the most amazing on screen European couple I've seen since 60's Godard.

So much raw sexual chemistry, so much emotional connectivity. Just great and Cruz was well deserving of her Oscar nomination in what I think is her most comfortable performance of her career.

And well technically speaking Allen's "next" movie is the one he has just completed titled WHATEVER WORKS, his love drama with Larry David and THE WRESTLER's Evan Rachel Wood, which I simply can't wait to see. Not least because David/Allen is one helluva an interesting pairing.

That one should be out in the U.S. late Summer from Sony Pictures Classics with once again a February/March 2010 release in the U.K.

But no his "next", "next" movie is untitled but will star Hopkins and Brolin.

It will mark his return to London where he shot MATCH POINT, SCOOP and CASSANDRA'S ...

Larry David is just about the perfect lead for Woody Allen and his next movie WHATEVER WORKS, looks to be a complete change of pace for the veteran director who has spent the last few years helming sexy scandals and tales of murderous intentions.

His 2009 movie (remember he does a movie a year) will star David as an eccentric who along with Melodie, a girl from the south (Evan Rachel Wood) they"get into a series of highly improbable, far out, romantic entanglements."

Sounds like it has the potential to have the free-flowing kind of narrative like Curb Your Enthusiasm, a show I absolutely love and David is so naturally great in.

Patricia Clarkson, Henry Cavill, Kristen Johnston and Ed Begley Jr. also appear in the movie which will be released sometime next year.

Unless like me you live in the U.K. and have to wait a whole year longer for Woody Allen. His lastest pic VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA still won't open around these parts till February.

Matt here and delighted to tell you that Woody Allen has finally secured a British release date for VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA. Though it won't be till February... you could probably get the Region 1 DVD imported by then! Oh well!

This was in my top five anticipated movies of 2008 and it's so cool to read that Oliver believes the movie gets Allen back to his MATCH POINT best...

It pleases me to report that Woody Allen's lastest film VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA is a warm, welcome return to comedic form that sees the director revived by an exotic fresh new location, a talented cast of recently accomplished actors, gorgeous sun-drenched aesthetics (courtesy of Pedro Almodovar's regular DP Javier Aguirresarobe) and a script that is probably Allen's best written work in 20 years.

BARCELONA concerns two young American women taking vacation in the romantic resides of the titular Spanish haunt. Vicky (Rebecca Hall) is a head-strong conservative type who is a grad student and is set to marry the idealistic man of her dreams, while Cristina (Scarlett Johansson) is a sexually adventurous aspiring short-filmmaker who likes to experience life on the edge.

The two girls meet Spanish charmer Juan Antonio (Javier Bardem), an impressionable painter ...

We aren't getting the movie on September 28th like you lucky Americans. See a brand new poster for the movie after the jump or click on the teaser below...

[rating: 1.5]

Woody Allen continues his foray into the deep-and-meaningful in this London-based drama about two brothers who dream of better lives, come close to getting there, before falling inexorably into a predestined pit of dramatic despair. Terry (Colin Farrell) is a mechanic with a gambling addiction whose luck rides high only in order to set up the inevitable fall; Ian (Ewan McGregor) has dedicated himself to the family business -a dingy and underperforming restaurant - out of devotion to his father, but when he meets an attractive and exciting actress he yearns for the high life and a way out of his rut. In desperation they both turn to their uncle Howard (Tom Wilkinson), a successful business man and general family prop in times of need. But little do they know that he is the one who requires a favour from them, one that will prove difficult to fulfill and will rend the family asunder irrevocably.

It all sounds very tense, ...

Matt here... Eugenio is currently out enjoying the Sun in Cannes and has been sending us some of his thoughts from the festival. First off, he got to see Woody Allen's latest movie Vicky Cristina Barcelona and sent us this very early review which you can read after the image...

Not surprisingly, Woody Allen decided to open his new film out of competition here at Cannes - the director hates attending and receiving
prizes. But the film was nevertheless very well received here at the festival and it is undoubtedly his most crowd pleasing and accessible film
for years.

A story of two girls finding love and questioning their own approach to life, "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" follows closely the template of Allen's recent Melinda and Melinda in examining and contrasting the different psychologies of two women. Its mix of tragedy and comedy, and a very heavy use of voiceovers, is also very reminiscent of the 2004 film.

Both Vicky (Rebecca Hall) and Cristina (Scarlett Johansson) travel to Barcelona for some change from their New York setting and are soon involved with passionate artist Juan Antonio (Javier Bardem) who can't forget the tempestuos marriage he had with fellow artist Maria Helena (Penelope Cruz). The usual exchange ...

So Woody Allen ditches London, his "home away from home" for the first time in a few years and flies off to explore another part of Europe with Vicky Cristina Barcelona - a love quadruple flick (there's four people, so it can't be a triangle) that will debut at Cannes next week.

The movie stars Academy Award Winner Javier Bardem - no longer with that creepy hairstyle from No Country For Old Men and now very much back to his charming ways as he gets to bed not only Rebecca Hall - not only Penelope Cruz but Scarlett Johansson to.

And the word is - and the trailer certainly hints as much - that there's a passionate three way between Johansson, Cruz and Bardem. Oh yes, that's something I've dreamed off many nights - those two lovely ladies have been my number 1 and number 2 obsessions ever since Open Your Eyes and Ghost World.

The plot - as if you care at this point is that Bardem is a painter who enters a relationship with two American tourists (Hall & Johansson) which makes his ex-girlfriend jealous (Cruz). It's a Woody Allen movie which recently has meant tempers flare and not everyone ...

Woody Allen is once again working two movies ahead of me but I've just recently bought my copy of Cassandra's Dream, his London based thriller starring Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell so very soon he will be back to just being two flicks ahead.

It's so hard to keep up with this guy!

His next movie after his next movie Vicky Cristina Barcelona (Johansson... Cruz... love scenes... nuff said?) will be the as yet untitled comedy (no surprise there) that's just begun production out in Queens says The Hollywood Reporter.

Henry Cavill (pictured left from Stardust & The Tudors) has joined the already cast Evan Rachel Wood in the picture.

Cavill will play a guy who is set up with Wood by her character's mother. The much older Larry David plays some kind of third love interest, making this one strange romantic triangle.

Well at least Woody didn't cast himself for Larry David's part, right?

The Weinsteins have snapped up a Woody Allen film again and here's hoping they do a better job of marketing and releasing the pic than they did with his last movie CASSANDRA'S DREAM. The movie which unbelievably was a cool looking crime/thriller SET IN ENGLAND with BRITISH ACTORS Colin Farrell, Ewan McGregor and Tom Wilkinson didn't even secure a theatrical release in the U.K. despite the Weinsteins distributing the movie in other foreign markets and of course in the U.S.

Though a U.S. release is one way of putting it. Dumping the film is another! The widest release the Weinsteins gave it was 105 theatres, which has earned the movie a pitiful $742, 212 domestic.

So it's time to move on and look forward to VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA...

Finally we have a plot for the movie, which I have been dreaming about ever since I heard Penelope Cruz, Rebecca Hall and Scarlett Johansson would be together on screen...
Just as New York City was the backdrop in Woody Allen's Manhattan, the stunning city of Barcelona is the setting for the romantic adventures of Vicky and Cristina. These two young Americans spend a summer in Spain and meet a flamboyant artist (Bardem) and his beautiful ...
