Not that anyone will particularly care, but I'm celebrating a small victory for Obsessed With Film today. Those of you with magnificent memories will remember back in June, we reported that William Hurt was in talks for a role in Ridley Scott's then titled Robin Hood movie Nottingham.

Ok granted, we predicted he would be playing King John, one of the expected villains but that was only because we looked at the tradition of the Robin Hood movies and thought he would fit the role well. It was quite an obvious prediction to make.

As the months went on and Ridley Scott's production kept changing, the trades stopped talking about Hurt as being part of it. But Obsessed With Film didn't, we had a feeling and a hunch that he was still going to be on board. And if you look through our archives, we kept mentioning and shoving down the name of Hurt into everyone's throats.

And we have been rewarded for that today. The Hollywood Reporter say William Hurt has joined the movie (which I'm of the opinion, he has been attached to for nearly a year now) as the 1st Earl of Pembroke, William Marshall. According to Wiki, he was ...

Well we knew Ridley Scott's mega ambitious new take on the Robin Hood character was going to be different but I didn't quite expect this.

Scott has told MTV that not only will Russell Crowe be playing the Sheriff of Nottingham in his film, something we have known for two years now but he shall also be playing his usual nemesis, the outlaw Robin Hood. In Scott's take, they are one in the same person (oh and Hood won't be wearing tights, because it's 300 years before they have been invented)...

"He's playing both...a good old clever adjustment of characters. One becomes the other. It changes.
Which explains the original idea when we heard that the Sheriff of Nottingham would actually be a good guy in this film and also explains how they got so close to filming in late Summer without the part of Hood being announced.

So instead of it being Robin of Locksley who gives up his fame, his land and fortune to live with the outlaws in Sherwood Forest, it will be the prosperous, wealthy and politically powered Sheriff. Or will it be the other way around? Surely not, as I wanna see Hood have more screentime than the Sheriff

Presumably ...

Christian Bale could be set to continue his legacy of playing famously iconic and already established cinematic characters on screen if Ridley Scott has his way according to a rumor in the Daily Mail.

They say Scott is desperate to sign up the Welsh actor for his contemporary movie about the Sheriff of Nottingham where Bale would play the iconic character of Robin Hood, depicted here as a notorious and not so sympathetic outlaw.

It's said that costume fittings are beginning next week, so Scott will have to find his man for Hood soon, the paper claiming that it's Bale's role if he wants it.

William Hurt (as King John perhaps or Guy of Gisbourne... maybe Little John - presumably Hood's men are villains too?) and Vanessa Redgrave are also in talks, with the young Academy Award nominated Atonement star Saorise Ronan also on board, apparently of course.

Earlier this week, Sienna Miller joined the cast as Maid Marian. Russell Crowe has been on board for the Sheriff's part since before Ridley Scott joined the project in April 2007.

Of course, it would be a quick reunion for Bale/Crowe who worked extremely well together on the brilliant Western 3:10 to Yuma and would actually be ...

OK folks, I've sat through the full 114 minutes and am now ready to judge this fittingly bulky movie. The good news is, it doesn't completely suck. The bad news is, it isn't amazing either. My reviews of these big action movies tend to spark controversy whether it's from me being too critical or not critical enough, so I'm ready to justify my opinions to the fullest here!

There was a real backlash against Ang Lee's 2003 HULK, it was widely felt the CGI was lame, the story weak and the action uninspired. I'm pleased to inform you that a lot of that is rectified here: far from the glossily rounded figure of his last incarnation, this computer-generated behemoth bulges with sinewy muscle fibres that look ready to burst. The story doesn't waste ...

So at the end of the day, Pete Travis' first feature film Vantage Point showed an awful lot of promise but it ended up being the first real disappointment of the year.

You can read Oliver Pfeiffer's review of the film here. I actually haven't seen it yet but all the reviews seem to say the same thing - stupid and boring.

British helmer Travis has announced what his next project will be and some casting has also leaked. He will direct Endgame, a feature length film which will be shown on Channel 4 about the end of Apartheid in South Africa.

Rehershals begin on Monday before production moves to South Africa to film.

Chiwetel Ejiofor (as President Tabo Umbeke) and William Hurt will topline.

It's taken a long time for Universal to show us a trailer for The Incredible Hulk reboot/restart but I gotta say, they might have been better off from showing us the big reveal of the big green guy completely, Cloverfield style.

He looks CGI crapola. And so does the rest of the movie. Unbelievably, it looks worse than Ang Lee's film in nearly every department and you really have to wonder if a good Hulk movie is even possible in this current film climate.

I'm stunned Universal have made the same mistakes again. You have to wonder if it would have been more effective just having a real guy, ala Lou Ferrigno (best on screen incarnation of the character for my money) play the character on screen and not CGI him. BETTER YET, this movie maybe should have gone the motion capture or animated avenue, maybe then we might actually get a massive sized Hulk that doesn't look ridiculous.

Nothing works here. Edward Norton's a fine actor but he's totally wrong for this part, especially the way he is playing it. He does not for one minute feel like a superhero, he can't carry this picture. Liv Tyler is just horrible. William Hurt ...

Talk about best laid plans. Vantage Point marks British director Pete Travis' overblown Hollywood thriller follow up to his critically acclaimed probing political drama Omagh, (which centered on the aftermath of the IRA bombing). Ambitiously billed by the director as a throw back to Akira Kurosawa's seminal masterpiece Rashomon - in terms of its unveiling of multiple character projections of the same narrative event - Vantage Point falls magnificently flat even as a half descent, unflinching nail-biting thriller in the mould of other dumbed down claustrophobic multi-media enthused thrillers such as Panic Room, Phone Booth or Cellular.

The fact that the director has managed to summon an impressive award-winning cast that encapsulates the talents of Oscar winner Forest Whitaker (as a mild mannered observer with convenient camera device), weathered character actor William Hurt (as a wholesome president), veteran Dennis Quaid (as a jittery veteran Secret Service Agent), former alien queen Sigourney Weaver (playing ...
