Four, it’s such a tricky number. In the world of film series it’s the one that usually pushes things just a little too far, perching precariously on the straight to DVD shelf, before anything that follows descends into the mire of classic continuation like Jason X.

Of course that’s not saying you can’t break the rules, usually by leaving a healthy few years between it and the previously imagined series end so the glow of nostalgia imbues a half-decent return to form with misplaced and unforeseen messianic glory (yes, I’m talking to you Lucas..). But in the case of those fast and sometimes furious street racers, number four comes relatively fast on the heels of 2006’s low-key Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, and seems to be a simple wake up call, both for the series, and Vin Diesel’s box office mojo.

It’s certainly an improvement on it’s predecessor and the loud mess that was 2 Fast 2 Furious, and it’s not entirely unsuccessful, but in trying to expand beyond the simple joy of the original’s adrenaline-fuelled, motorised mayhem it traps itself into thinking that dramatic layering (however shallow and familiar) is more worthwhile than the entire reason for the series’ existence. ...

Vin Diesel, who eventually decided to return to the FAST AND FURIOUS franchise for a princely paycheck earlier this year (due out in 2009), has agreed a similar deal to return for a third XXX movie. Diesel originally spurned the opportunity of starring in the first sequel to the 2002 Columbia Pictures $277 million worldwide hit three years ago.

You may remember it was Ice Cube who took over the reigns for what was one of the worst movies of that year. Rob Cohen, the director of the original has also agreed a return and the movie even has a title... XXX: THE RETURN OF XANDER CAGE, it's just they don't have a script yet say Variety.

The original which was dubbed "Bond for the new Millennium" starred Diesel as Xander Cage, an extreme sports enthusiast who gets drafted by the government for a dangerous mission. Samuel L. Jackson and Asia Argento co-starred in the original and Jackson even returned for it's sequel.

Now if I remember rightly, didn't they mention that Diesel's character had unceremoniously been killed as a way of spiting the actor for not returning for it's sequel?

French helmer Mathieu Kassovitz's big Hollywood action movie Babylon A.D. starring Vin Diesel opens on Friday but all has not been well for the 20th Century Fox production.

After talk of studio cuts as far back as April, a hideous trailer and a slew of scathing reviews (0% on Rotten Tomatoes as of right now) have turned up online but the real kicker and the one that should be the final nail in the movie's coffin is that the flick's director hates his own movie.

Kassovitz is disowning it. In an incredible interview with AMCtv.com, he said “I'm very unhappy with the film,” and that the movie was "pure violence and stupidity," with parts resembling "a bad episode of '24.'"

Yup, that should go on the poster!

He goes on to say...
“I never had a chance to do one scene the way it was written or the way I wanted it to be. The script wasn't respected. Bad producers, bad partners, it was a terrible experience.”
Though there is said to be two sides to this story. During the film's production there was several reports of Kassovitz being a bit of an egomanical asshole on set and that the studio are incredibly pissed the helmer ...

Despite the four year break since Vin Diesel's disappointing 2004 action sequel The Chronicles of Riddick flopped for Universal, the actor has told MTV that he still hopes to get TWO MORE MOVIES in the franchise off the ground in the future.

He even revealed that David Twohy (he wrote the last two movies) is writing the script right now!

"The only question is whether we take a page from the ‘Lord of the Rings’ guys and try to shoot the two chapters at the same time. There are two more in mind...The Chronicles of Riddick’ was presented as a three part trilogy that would answer ‘Pitch Black’ in the same way that ‘Lord of the Rings’ answered ‘The Hobbit.’”
The Chronicles of Riddick flopped domestically to a $57 million gross in 2004 and needed it's worldwide taking to pass the budget of $105 million by about $10 million.

Vin Diesel remains committed to bringing the universe back to the screen, claiming the big gap between the last one is simply because they want to do it right.

I didn't see The Chronicles of Riddick when it came out... I very much doubt I will see any more movies in the series. Actually at this ...

Pretty damn awful.

Babylon A.D is an upcoming dystopian thriller from Gothika & La Haine director Mathieu Kassovitz starring Vin Diesel as a muscle clad mercenary Thoorop.

He's our good guy who escorts a woman (Melanie Thierry) from Russia to China but it’s not going to be as easy as it sounds because said woman is an organism that a cult wants to harvest and produce a genetically modified Messiah.

New trailer below which give us an awful lot more than the teaser released last month.

Well we have the over-used Requiem music which is used in soooo many action thrillers year in and year out, we have some awful line reading from Vin Diesel - one in the middle of the trailer and possibly the worst "cliff-hanger" ending I've seen a trailer to a Hollywood movie ever end with.
We've seen Vin Diesel do this kind of thing before in Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick and the rumor is the director's original near 3 hour cut has been reduced dramatically - so there's every chance this one has resulted in the kind of mess that many a cut sci-fi film endures.
Movie has about 1% buzz at this point, no-one is talking about ...

Babylon A.D, the upcoming dystopian sci-fi thriller is a project that Vin Diesel is said to have much faith in and despite the warning signs to us after it was delayed from February to August... it's still very much a movie on my radar. Particularly because it's based on an absolutely classic French novel from Maurice G. Dantec.

With a similar kind of imagery as Children of Men - Vin Diesel plays mercenary Thoorop who escorts a woman (Melanie Thierry) from Russia to China but it's not going to be as easy as it sounds because said woman is an organism that a cult wants to harvest and produce a genetically modified Messiah..

SEE IT HD HERE
Sadly the trailer starts off promising but then jumps into a quick fire cross cutting making it out to be another Vin Diesel action movie. Shame really because much like The Rock - unless they actually give the guy a chance of doing this type of thing as an actor first - then an action star - he will never be quite as interesting in your movie as he could be.

Could you imagine True Lies if Arnie didn't get the opportunity for some dramatic scenes?

Michelle Yeoh ...

Post jail-bird Michelle Rodriguez has landed her first part since leaving prison. She will reprise her role of Letty in The Fast and The Furious 4, adding to what has become a massive reunion of the stars from the original movie.

Rodriguez joins Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Jordana Brewster who burst onto the scene seven years ago with the original car porn action movie. Only Paul Walker has starred in another movie in the franchise, the lazy titled 2 Fast 2 Furious - the other three are returning to the series for the first time.

From Coming Soon...
In the anticipated film, Brian (Walker) and Dominic (Diesel) team up to help the feds stop a heroin importer known as Braga. Brian – and ultimately Dominic – wins a place on the criminal's team, where he and his flashy Nissan plan to catch the man red-handed.
Anticipated? Not by me. Though the fact this week they cast a former Miss. Israeli who only just missed out on the Bond girl role for The Quantum of Solace doesn't exactly hurt.

The currently untitled Fast and the Furious 4 is scheduled to be released next June from the director (Justin Lin) and writer (Chris Morgan) of the ...
