Jamie Bell will motion capure and voice TINTIN, Daniel Craig will play "the nefarious" villain Pirate Red Rackham in the joint 3-D animated Steven Spielberg/Peter Jackson venture at Paramount and Sony.

Toby Jones, Gad Elmaleh, Mackenzie Crook round out the cast which we already know has Andy Serkis playing Captain Haddock and British comedy duo Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as The Thompson Twins.

The movie will be based on THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN: THE SECRET OF THE UNICORN and has been written by Steven Moffat (DR. WHO) with some help from Edgar Wright (HOT FUZZ/SHAUN OF THE DEAD) and Joe Cornish (one half of comedy duo Adam and Joe) who have contributed according to a press release at Coming Soon.

The Secret of the Unicorn was one of the first truly great Tintin adventures and Herge's personal favorite, combining a puzzling mystery with a ripping pirate yarn. When Tintin finds a magnificent model ship in the street market, his attempt to buy it for Captain Haddock leads him on a trail of pickpockets, burglars, and secret treasure, and Haddock enthralls him with a tale of his seafaring ancestor, Sir Francis Haddock (who was exclaiming "Thundering typhoons!" generations before the Captain ever did), ...

Steven Spielberg's first movie since he wrapped on INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL will begin filming in just two weeks.

The movie is the 3D animated motion captured TINTIN, directed by Spielberg and executive produced by Peter Jackson.

Andy Serkis, who plays Captain Haddock in the movie, revealed the start date to Coming Soon...
"We are starting 'Tintin' the week after next," Serkis said. "Peter Jackson is producing and Steven Spielberg is directing. I remember reading them as a child. I wasn't this massive fan. I loved the almost storyboard nature of the beautiful, beautiful drawings. And the way its going to be done... It's obviously performance capture so it's is going to be perfect. There isn't a more perfect way of doing it."
So expect to hear soon which young kid will be playing TINTIN soon. Recently we heard that Nick Frost and Simon Pegg will be playing the Thompson Twins. The movie is expected to be out next Summer.

At first what we thought of as gimmick casting, has actually been confirmed today for Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson's TINTIN 3-D motion captured trilogy.

AICN say Brit duo Simon Pegg and Nick Frost will play the bumbling Thompson Twins. Which should be interesting because neither Pegg or Frost looking anything a like.

It's also been confirmed that Andy Serkis is also still on board as Captain Haddock but LOVE ACTUALLY youngster Thomas Sangster dropped out as the lead character when the Autumn shoot was pushed back to February 09.

After losing Universal's financing in the Summer, Sony Pictures stepped in to co-finance this $130 million production alongside Paramount Pictures - remarkably neither of them have as much faith in the worldwide appeal of TINTIN to finance it solo.

The first in the TINTIN trilogy will be released next Summer and will be directed by Spielberg. Peter Jackson's second installment will come sometime later.

Sony Pictures Entertainment and Paramount Pictures are in talks to co-finance Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson's TINTIN.

The digital 3D movie had been in limbo for the past six weeks or so as Universal made the risky decision of dropping a project because of the current financial climate, even though it could eventually be the biggest box office hit of 2010.

Paramount had offered to finance the whole $135 million themselves but Jackson and Spielberg held out for a better deal, which they now have... though the combined money both studio's have put up has been undisclosed.

Variety say the delay on the film has meant that 18 year old Thomas Sangster has left the project and Spielberg will need to find a new lead.

Andy Serkis is still on board as Captain Haddock.

Spielberg will direct the first movie, Jackson the second and I would guess Spielberg's pal Robert Zemeckis (BEOWULF, THE POLAR EXPRESS) must be favourite for the third.

Simon Pegg visited Steven Spielberg on the motion capture set of TINTIN where the actor claims/suggested/jokingly refers to the Times Online that he and his good pal Nick Frost may have been offered the chance to play the bumbling detectives The Thompson Twins in the soon to be filming movie...

“Steven’s smoking a stogy, cap on head, like he’s always been since I was a baby,” Pegg says, shaking his head in wonder. “I shook his hand and chatted about films. He gave me the mo-cap [motion-capture] camera, and I had a play around with it. Then he said, ‘Hey, maybe you and Nick Frost could play the Thompson Twins.’ In Tintin. A Spielberg movie. To work with him is beyond .. . ” He trails off, lost for words.
How truthful Spielberg was about being interested in the two guys, we can only speculate but you have to wonder why Pegg was on set anyway?

We know Pegg is great friends with Spielberg's co-collaborator Peter Jackson who even made a very rare cameo in HOT FUZZ, so there could be a lot of fuel to this fire. Despite Thompson and Thompson being twins, the movie will be motion captured so presumably they ...

Has the current financial climate forced Universal, a major Hollywood studio to balk at the idea of financing a movie trilogy from Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg based on the insanely popular TINTIN franchise?

The Associated Press say the studio don't wish to give up $65 million for the three 3-D animated pictures and as we have heard before, production which was to begin very soon has now been halted indefinitely.

It's also a case of really bad timing for Spielberg who had agreed a deal with Paramount to co-finance the picture and now must ask a studio he is wishing to distance himself from, to finance the film completely which would amount to $130 million.

But if Paramount are smart, they will agree to it. TINTIN will be HUGE, three movies that could make a studio a small fortune. I think Universal will come to regret this day.

The Hollywood Reporter has lambasted yesterday's rumors that Peter Jackson would be taking over the reigns on the first Tintin movie, replacing Steven Spielberg in their joint collaborate effort which was always going to see Spielberg direct the first movie.

If people who actually reported on these rumors used their heads for a second, they wouldn't need official denials to deem them as being untrue. We know Jackson is...

A) Writing The Hobbit with Fran Walsh, Phillapa Boyens and Guillermo del Toro.

B) Is working on the lengthy post-production schedule for his next movie The Lovely Bones due out October 2009.

Basically, Jackson wouldn't have the time to fully commit to Tintin and with Spielberg desperately trying to do this project for two decades, I would suggest that nothing will stop him now from helming this first feature.

Production was originally set to begin in September but that looks to have been delayed, possibly till October/November. The first movie will be based on the classic stories "The Secret of the Unicorn" and it's sequel "Red Rackham's Treasure," which were written by Tintin creator Herge between 1942 and 1944.

The stories revolved around theives in Brussels.

Doctor Who writer Stephen Moffat has adapted the stories for screen. The ...

Steven Spielberg was hoping to be filming his Trial of the Chicago 7 movie right now - the film about the famous protesters at the 1968 Democratic convention in Chicago which looked to star Will Smith, Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Sacha Baron Cohen among other big names but because of the writer's strike and the director's incredibly tight schedule, it would seem that movie has been delayed from production until at least the middle of next year.

A real shame actually because I think a mature Spielberg which has seen powerful movies like Munich become a reality is something he doesn't seem interested in re-visiting more than once every six or seven years.

His next movie as we all know will be the first part of the Tintin saga, a huge trilogy of motion captured movies that he is developing with Peter Jackson. That movie begins work in September and won't be affected by the actors strike apparently because voice and motion capture work doesn't count as actually acting... or at least that's what Spielberg hints to Screen Daily.

Once Spielberg is done with that and has enjoyed the festive cheer, work will begin on his long talked about biopic of the U.S. ...

17 year old British actor Thomas Sangster, probably best known for playing the son of Liam Neeson in Love Actually (has he actually aged at all, is he really 17?) has been cast to do the voice and motion capture for the Steven Spielberg/Peter Jackson project Tintin which will begin filming in August.

The Daily Mail also tell us that Andy Serkis' role is actually that of Captain Haddock, Tintin's loyal sidekick.

You know, I wasn't so sure of this motion capture technology after seeing its results in Robert Zemeckis' movie The Polar Express but in retrospect it was more the idea that Tom Hanks played every single character and I guess we have to remember it was the early days of the technology.

In Beowulf, I was completely won over. It worked. I was utterly blown away, it was fantastic.

I can't imagine any other way to do the epic tale after seeing that movie. And now I'm convinced that an Alex Ross style animated JLA movie is absolutely the best way to do such a movie in this current climate. You really could bring a comic book to life then because although it's cool seeing Superman kick ass in live action... when ...
