I fear that M. Night's ratio of good/bad movies will finally go back to being balanced after The Happening.

The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and to a lesser extent though I still thought it was good Signs - thumbs up.

The Village, Lady in the Water - massive thumbs down.

Maybe when he is 3 for 3 - his career will go back in the other direction.

Here's the international poster for The Happening. Now has everyone jumped off and committed suicide in order to avoid seeing M. Night's movie in theatres? And what's with the red shadow - don't tell me there's another big twist on the horizon?

June 13th is the day both The Happening (which the plot by the way is that people start killing themselves for no reason) starring Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Deschanel and the even worse looking The Incredible Hulk are released. Save your cash that week, me thinks!

The titanic ego of M. NIGHT SHYAMALAN has cursed his every move in recent years. The blossoming promise shown in his earliest films has disintegrated before the bewildered eyes of moviegoers everywhere. The trust is broken, replaced by a palpable resentment. It's like admiring a charismatic uncle as a young person, only to go behind the shed one day to see him sodomizing a dead cat; the relationship never quite recovers.

It's an understatement to say that Shyamalan has a lot riding on his newest pseudo-intellectual horror film THE HAPPENING. After the twin disasters THE VILLAGE and LADY IN THE WATER, this new film needs to really click, or Shyamalan will find himself trying to sell his patented twist-ending stories on streetcorners for nickels.

Unfortunately he decided to title this make-or-break endeavor THE HAPPENING, one of the worst titles I have ever heard or imagined. Depending on my mood, the title sounds either pretentious, boring, or pointless. What the fuck is a "happening" anyway???? This title means so very little that it threatens to evaporate right off of the one-sheet.

Then uber-genius Shyamalan releases a trailer that features the characters using the word "happening" over and over again. "Something is happening," says a ...

The more I'm seeing of M.Night's THE HAPPENING, the more I'm liking it.

I love this kind of condensed horror which seems to have started with things like 28 DAYS LATER and M.Night's SIGNS where we are only seeing the mass apoclayptic sized disaster from the point of view of a small band of people. Films where we don't need to see what the Whitehouse thinks of what is going on, or what the President is going to do about it.

I think this one might turn out to be the best Shyamalan film since SIGNS which is most definitely a good thing after THE VILLAGE and THE LADY IN THE WATER. Though I must say if these are the best lines from Mark Wahlberg, then I'm not convinced he was the right man for this movie...

I think I've seen this story before. It looks exactly the same as a novel I read a good number of years ago now. Cell by Stephen King.
In that book people who had mobile phones started going crazy and would turn into crazed zombie like freaks who commit mass homicide and even suicide.
That seems to be exactly what M. Night's latest movie THE HAPPENING is all about.

CLICK HERE TO SEE THE TRAILER (until I can find one to upload to the site).

Reminded me a little of the atmosphere brought about in Darabont's THE MIST.

I don't mind the trailer, it hits it's necessary points for creepy and Mark Wahlberg is enjoying some great success right now. I never thought M. Night would be able to convince me to see one of his films again after the double whammy that was THE VILLAGE and LADY IN THE WATER but I think I will see this... and probably regret it later.

Look for this on Friday 13th June!
