Let me explain- by the Industry I don’t just mean about musicians (at least not on its own), I mean the various machinations behind the music: the journalism, the production, the tours, the record labels, and most topically the broadcasting. Basically, biopics just don’t count. See what Im getting at? It’s all very cleverly linked to this week’s British cinematic release of Richard Curtis’ no-doubt feel-good The Boat That Rocked.

10. Airheads

Brendan Fraser definitely finds his feet when playing vapid morons- although George of the Jungle and Dudley Do-Right amazingly both managed to belly flop limply into the abyss never to be watched again. Teaming him with the equal idiocy of Adam Sandler, and the excellent character acting of Steve Buscemi proved to be a wonderful decision, and produced one of the best films about every garage rock-band’s delusions of grandeur. For everyone whose ever picked up a guitar, strummed three out of key Gs and proclaimed themselves a Rock God, Airheads rebellion and hostage taking is a brainless but entertaining departure from the reality of our own mediocrity.

9. A Mighty Wind

What is it with Christopher Guest and mockumentaries? It would be impossible to compile any kind of tomb on ...

Much better. I'm now of the opinion that the first trailer we saw towards the back end of last year was rushed to get some kind of advertising promotion out for the movie for the Christmas film audience.

Now, with the required time and patience they have crafted a trailer for Richard Curtis' new movie THE BOAT THAT ROCKED that lives up to the film's awesome cast and concept.

Universal have released a lengthier trailer below which clearly shows us much more of the tone of the film and I love it. I can't help but be teased to want to see more Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Bill Nighy...

The movie opens in early April in the U.K.

Still no U.S. date guys, which really sucks. I wanna see THE BOAT THAT ROCKED take over the world!

I'm still trying to recover from the really disappointing trailer for Richard Curtis' latest movie THE BOAT THAT ROCKED because I'm really dying for this to be good.

I have a soft spot for Curtis, even his rom-com's LOVE ACTUALLY, NOTTING HILL and FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL all work for me on some level.

And well I studied the British history of Pirate radio in the 60's, it's a fascinating period. It was a little similar to what I like to think we as movie bloggers do. We aren't in this for the money, we broadcast our loves, our unique tastes, our opinions, our pure obsession with cinema just to get our voice out there and for people to hear.

To promote the kinds of movies we want to promote, just like those music lovers promoted the kind of music they wanted and not what was being shoved down their throats by public or commercial radio.

That's kind of why I'm fascinated by this period and the thought of characters played by Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nighy, Nick Frost and Kenneth Branagh in this era, is just soooo frikkin' awesome.

Here's two new posters which I stumbled across at First Showing, who themselves found ...

Five years after FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL and NOTTING HILL writer Richard Curtis made his directorial debut with the ensemble rom-com LOVE ACTUALLY and he is finally back with a new movie, his latest comedy THE BOAT THAT ROCKED.

The 60's set comedy revolves around the pirate raido station Radio Rock, run from the middle of the North Sea and their ongoing commitment to playing the music they want, being anti-establishment and being cool.

If you know your radio history, pirate radio was a big deal for British music in that decade and forcing the national radio stations to change their policy and embrace popular music and rock.

Back in the rock music era again after his role in ALMOST FAMOUS is Phillip Seymour Hoffman, who plays a brash American DJ named The Count.

Bill Nighy, of course, plays the radio boss Quentin.

Nick Frost and Rhys Ifans play the homegrown DJ's Dave and Gavin.

Not featured in the poster but also in the film are Gemma Arterton, Kenneth Branagh, Emma Thompson, Jack Davenport and January Jones.

Thanks to Empire for the posters!

Got a LONG, LONG, LONG time to wait on this one. It doesn't open till May 1st, even though it's the kind of movie ...
