We've seen in the past what rushed productions have caused superhero films (X-MEN 3 is a prime example) and IRON MAN 2 next year, should keep us Marvel fans happy till 2011. And then, we've got THOR, CAPTAIN AMERICA... and of course a fourth movie in the SPIDER-MAN franchise.

Then THE AVENGERS in 2012, the expected year of release for BATMAN 3. What a year that could be for superhero movies, especially if a new SUPERMAN reboot gears up for release the year before or the year after that.

Marvel's new release schedule...
May 7th 2010 - IRON MAN 2 (no release change, filming begins on that imminently)

May 4th 2011 - SPIDER-MAN 4 (in conjunction with Sony).

June 17, 2011 - THOR (pushed back from July 16th 2010, which is no surprise given they don't have a THOR cast yet)

July 22nd, 2011 - THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA (pushed back from May 6th 2011)

May 4, 2012 - THE AVENGERS (pushed back from July 15th ...

So we already know how CAPTAIN AMERICA will fit into THE AVENGERS (in brief, he gets frozen in the finale of his World War II period movie and is recovered by Tony Stark in the modern day at the beginning of the team-up movie) but how exactly will the Norse God THOR find himself in the same time and place as these other Marvel characters?

IESB's reliable source tells us how...
A reliable source tells the IESB that the character of Donald Blake has been added to the end of the script. Let me reiterate that he wasn't there before, the script was set entirely in the land of the Norse Gods.

The introduction of the character is essential to how Marvel will tie Thor into the Avengers that is set in contemporary Tony Stark/Hulk timeframe. It explains how the actual Thor film will be set in the ancient time of the Norse Gods and how they will subsequently bring the character into a modern time with Donald Blake discovering the magical Norse hammer Mjolnir and turning into Thor.
THOR opens July 16th 2010, THE AVENGERS a year later on July 15th 2011.

IESB have also heard that director Kenneth Branagh will also have a ...

Here's a superhero tidbit from this week which probably does carry some weight of truth behind it, namely because not only does it sound like the kind of smart move Marvel Films have been making recently but it's also sourced from Latino Review, who get it more often right than wrong.

LR say that Marvel will be further fleshing out their cross connections of their characters by having Tim Robbins play Howard Stark, the rich billionaire father of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and the Howard Hughes like figure (without the insanity) who founded Stark Industries in more than one upcoming movie.

The character is expected to be used for FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA (as that is set during World War II, a time when Howard Stark's business was thriving and he worked closely with the government) and in flashback scenes in THE AVENGERS and IRON MAN 2.

LR don't mention this but I wouldn't be surprised if this also allows Jeff Bridges to return for IRON MAN 2 flashback scenes, showing his close bond with Howard Stark which just adds a little bit of tragedy to what happened to that character when greed took over.

Love the idea. Anything that grows the Marvel ...

IRON MAN himself, Robert Downey Jr spoke to MTV this week and told the site how much pressure is on the talent behind the superhero team-up ensemble THE AVENGERS and how much he hopes the realism that Jon Favreau brought to IRON MAN will carry over for that movie.

“If we don’t get it right, it’s really going to suck. It has to be the crowning blow of Marvel’s best and brightest, because it’s the hardest thing to get right. It’s tough to spin all the plates for one of these characters,” Downey tells MTV, later adding: “The danger you run with colliding all these worlds is that Jon was very certain that “Iron Man” should be set in a very realistic way. Nothing that happened in Iron Man is really outside the realm of possibility. Once you start talking about Valhalla and supersized super soldiers and jolly green giants, it warrants much further discussion.”
Which is why Jon Favreau is the best choice to direct this movie. He is currently only attached as executive producer but for me, he seems to be the guy that gets the Marvel universe more than anyone else and you just can't compare THE INCREDIBLE HULK ...

Though we expected at least two of these names to sign on for THE AVENGERS, it's still nice to get official confirmation from Marvel Entertainment today that Robert Downey Jr, Don Cheadle and Jon Favreau have signed on for the big Summer 2011 tentpole.

Downey Jr and Cheadle (as the new Jim Rhodes) will be part of the huge ensemble cast. Favreau, director of IRON MAN and it's upcoming sequel, will only executive producer. We can only speculate that his name is in the mix to also direct.

The press release gives us the first synopsis for the movie...
THE AVENGERS will bring together the super hero team of Marvel Comics characters for the first time ever, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk and more, as they are forced to band together to battle the biggest foe they've ever faced.
Kevin Feige, President of Marvel spoke of Cheadle's involvement in the future of the franchise...
"We are very excited about working with the extraordinarily talented Don Cheadle as we expand the role of Rhodey in Iron Man 2. It has already become apparent as we prep the movie for production, that the dynamic between Robert and Don will take Iron Man 2 to ...

Desperate Housewives beauty Eva Longoria was snapped walking out of the MARVEL OFFICES in Beverly Hills over the weekend carrying a set of comic books, specifically issues of THE AVENGERS.

Putting two and two together isn't hard. Marvel are making an AVENGERS movie for 2011, they will be casting soon... there is only one outcome right?

IESB, the source where I found the above pic claims it's probably too early to be casting for AVENGERS as CAPTAIN AMERICA would need to be rounded out first, as that is scheduled for 2010.
But you have to believe she was meeting about something. Marvel is not like any other studio, they don't make movies based on several genres and degree's of scope. They only make comic book movies and that's just about all she could have been there for.
Fanboys speculate she resemblances WASP, the only female member of the AVENGERS team and comic history dictates, one of the founding members of the team...

Film School Rejects are more informed on the character than we...
Janet was the eventual wife of Dr. Hank Pym, also known as Ant Man. Pym subjected her to a procedure which granted her the ability to, upon shrinking, grow wings and fire blasts ...

Marvel Studio's is an exciting company to follow right now as they attempt to carve out the characters that they hope to build a universe around that can keep delivering Iron Man like numbers box office numbers for the next decade and even beyond.

As DC continue to debate, dither and quite simply fail over bringing their superheroes to the big screen that are outside of the big two, Marvel are pushing ahead with at least two movies a year and are making fortune after fortune.

Slight gloating but more to tease and keep us informed about their future, Marvel released a press release this morning indicating their future plans...

April 30th 2010 - IRON MAN 2 (the movie will also introduce Thor according to the press release)
June 4th 2010 - THOR (Matthew Vaughn directing)
May 6th 2011 - THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA (working title - which hints that Cap will be introduced in a slightly different manner to others)
July 2011 - THE AVENGERS (Hulk, Iron Man, Cap America, Thor, Nick Fury (and rest of S.H.I.E.L.D)... possibly/probably more!

Edgar Wright's adaptation of Ant-Man is also still in development but no release date is attached as Wright has several projects he is considering as his ...

Ok we are real late on this one but it's still huge news and is the beginning of something that the comic book movie industry has been threatening and talking about for so long but never, until now actually executed.

AICN were running the rumor earlier this week that Robert Downey Jr. will have a scene in THE INCREDIBLE HULK this Summer. No, he's not specifically been cast for that movie... it will actually be a cameo as Tony Stark, a.k.a IRON MAN.

Yes that's right, IRON MAN will be turning up in the HULK movie and will have a scene opposite William Hurt's General "Thunderbolt" Ross.

Apparently this is to be the start of the Marvel Universe branching out through our cinema screens over the next few years as Marvel characters for the first time will exist between several movies. For example, the expected cameo of Samuel L. Jackson (as Nick Fury) and Hilary Swank (we think) in IRON MAN... will set the seeds for their own standalone movie somewhere down the line.

Now that Marvel are funding all their movies 100% on their own they now have the exclusive rights to their characters and are allowed to cross them between the different ...
