It's times like this I wish I was a billionaire, seriously. With all the Blu-Ray DVDs I want to buy, the fact that my football team Newcastle United can be bought for £100 million, and now a much smaller figure would buy me the rights to make any kind of Terminator picture I wanted?

Jeez, I need to gets me a sugar daddy!

November 2009 will prove to be a significant month in the shaping of the future of one of the biggest franchises in cinema as the Halcyon Co. are to auction off the rights to the Terminator franchise to the highest bidder.

Disappointed, disinterested and out of pocket by Terminator Salvation (a pathetic $120 million domestic for a Terminator movie starring Christian Bale) the Halcyon Co. have said enough is enough. They have lost faith in a franchise they had hoped when they purchased the rights in 2007 for $25 million would be the start of a successful reboot to the original series, kicking off a new profitable trilogy similar to the new Batman franchise at WB.

But miss-hirings, (and I hate to say it... BUT WE TOLD YOU SO) and bad decisions meant that... well... they fucked up a golden opportunity. ...

Just when did 32 year old Australian actor Sam Worthington become Hollywood's flavour of the month?

You watch Chris Pine in Star Trek, and you get it, you feel comfortable that he was the right man for the role. Pine has the on screen charisma and all the required abilities to etch out a long CV of top billing performances over the coming years.

He's earnt the right to star in Tony Scott's next blockbuster. And if further roles among the Hollywood elite come his way which I'm positive they will, you feel like he has deserved it.

But just what has this Aussie guy done?

I'm baffled as to how he went from the killer croc movie Rogue in 2007 to starring in Terminator Salvation, Avatar and Clash of the Titans in such a short space of time, cast in all of the above before anyone had seen a single frame of his acting in those movies.

I only ask because his performance in Terminator Salvation is so excruciatingly painful that I'm now worried he is going to end up as the new Colin Farrell, an actor who was pushed into roles he was never suited for. The above (and one below, after the jump) from ...

Like one of its unstoppable robots, the TERMINATOR series continues to chase after its prey: the almighty dollar. The first film in the series was the complete package, a sleek and deadly time travel tale that ends on a tidy and final note. Creator/director James Cameron brought the series back to life in 1991, though, with a few new wrinkles, some very special effects, and lots of ultra-action - but there wasn't much of a story to tell. the third film had even less on its mind, reducing the iconic Terminator franchise to a series of action set pieces.

Now we have a fourth film in the franchise. It is a gritty, vicious, and ultimately empty experience.

Christian Bale stars as John Connor, the grown-up version of the bratty kid in JUDGMENT DAY. Connor has taken his place as the spiritual leader of the Resistance, largely due to the recording left by his mother that tell the stories related to her by Kyle Reese from the first film. Connor is preparing his ragged troops for a final assault against the Skynet control compound utilizing a signal that will disable the machines.

But this is also a movie about a man named Marcus (Sam ...

"It is a very rare thing for a film to shit squarely on my open and unexpecting eyes to such a degree that absolute hatred and loathing festers out of my every pore… but McG managed to do it with TERMINATOR SALVATION" says line 1, paragraph 1 of an embargo breaking review of the new Terminator movie from AICN head honcho Harry Knowles that went live 20.05.09 at 8.52 am.

Opening wide tomorrow in the U.S. before bowing in the U.K. on 03.06.09 is the fourth installment of the 25 year old franchise and the first of a new trilogy that instead of being a fresh new fresh start like a Star Trek or 007, it plays the dangerous Superman Returns game of picking up where a previous movie left off.

A gamble that may hault the Terminator series, just as it did the big red, white and blue when big things were expected from future movies.

Knowles can't even give Terminator Salvation a pass,
I’m astonished that anyone that loves the first two films could possibly vaguely give this film a pass. Yes, the craftsmen and the visual effects artists did their job, but the film just left me furious at it. At ...

I like that Sam Worthington has gotten a big name billing, alongside Bale. This kid is going to be something to watch folks, you don't get cast in Terminator, James Cameron's Avatar and the lead role in Clash of the Titans without having something special in your locker.

Really looking forward to this and when the movie was first announced, and especially when McG came on board. I never thought I would.

Terminator Salvation opens May 21st in the U.S. and June 3rd in the U.K.

Come on guys, Warner Bros. were never going to release a R-Rated movie out of the Terminator franchise, not in 2009. This is the biggest film on their tentpole calendar this year, they want to make sure they can reach out to the highest audience figure possible and Terminator Salvation's mass market appeal will always stop a R-Rating from ever being slapped to this franchise again.

That's whether director McG, star Christian Bale or the hardcore fanboys like it or not. The evidence of the PG-13 rating comes from the fine print at the bottom of a Pizza Hut tie-in promotion...

One of the battles McG was facing was the inclusion of a topless scene involving Moon Bloodgood which now may make it's way on a deleted scene on a director's cut DVD. Or may end up in McG's personal collection, who knows?

AICN reminds us that a PG-13 rating in 2009, is not quite the same as it was five years ago and a movie like The Dark Knight was extremely intense, violent and most certainly not for kids under the age of 13. Maybe they have given the same kind of leeway to Terminator Salvation?

Regarding Arnie's cameo in TERMINATOR SALVATION, what I and indeed the Governator himself suggest is for fans NOT to expect him to turn up in the May blockbuster.

That way, if he does appear in it, it will be a nice and genuine surprise for everyone. And if he doesn't, well then you weren't expecting it anyway.

Arnie spoke to fansite The Arnold Fans...
“I have seen the movie, but I have not seen it as a finished product yet. I have not seen it yet with the Terminator special effects and some of the sound and the music is not in there yet and so on. So I really cannot comment on it, what the movie will be like as a finished product. There’s a rule that you never talk about a movie unless you have seen the finished product. But you know as I said to the director when they began that I wish them the best of luck, that I’m happy that they move forward with the franchise, I am very happy with where I am with my profession as the governor and they should try to find a way of doing a story that does not include me at all, not even one single ...

I'm absolutely in love with this trailer, TERMINATOR SALVATION is far exceeding my low expectations and from the looks of things, when all is said and done, it may well be the event movie of the Summer.

Borrowing an awful lot from Zack Snyder's way of cutting trailers (i.e. heavy action, cool camera swipes, slow mo effects and the use of a cool record to set the mood... this time Nine Inch Nails), the trailer is loud, it's in your face and it's way cool.

It also feels a lot like a blending on Michael Bay's TRANSFORMERS and imagery from THE MATRIX and ALIEN in it's band of isolated survivors, the condensed atmosphere, the grey and rag-tag clothing, Sam Worthington's character of Marcus Wright being shown a reality about himself he wasn't previously aware of, just like Neo.

Though there has to be more to this Marcus Wright character right... surely no machine can have that many emotions at the timeline this TERMINATOR movie is set to fit in with Jimmy Cameron's continuity?

It's not quite the movie I dreamed of when I saw the images of the future in the first two TERMINATOR movies but let me just say I'm pleasantly surprised at ...

Linda Hamilton has confirmed last month's scoop that McG has held talks with her over TERMINATOR SALVATION, specifically the role of the voice-over at the film's beginning.

She tells MTV...
"We are talking"... "I haven't read it yet. I don't know what direction they will go in."

While she awaits the specifics in a script, Hamilton already knows what her role generally would be. "My contribution would be voiceover," she said. "I would probably be very happy to loan my voice depending on what the material is. Wait and see. They're already writing it. We've been negotiating it".
Which of course indicates that McG has not finished his movie yet, due out on May 21st (June 5th in the U.K.).

On the other hand, J.J. Abrams turned in his final cut of STAR TREK (due out May 8th) several weeks ago.

Not a company to miss out on a marketing opportunity, Despair.com are celebrating Christian Bale's blow-up tirade on the set of TERMINATOR SALVATION by selling this parody t-shirt.

It's on sale from sizes Small to XXXL from $17.95 to $19.95 and you can buy it HERE.

I really do wonder if this Bale situation has cost him respect with other directors, especially those veterans who wouldn't tolerate such abuse on their sets. Can you imagine a Spielberg, a Eastwood, a Scorsese or a Ridley Scott putting up with that kind of thing?

Because really, Bale's just a nice guy.

Bruce Franklin, assistant director on TERMINATOR SALVATION tells E Online! that star Christian Bale's F-word rant against the movie's DP was just him having "a bad day" and that really Bale is nothing but a "consumate professional".

I say, nothing professional about calling your co-worker a "fucking amateur" and embarrassing him in front of the whole crew. No excuses and if it puts off directors from wanting to work with him in the future, then I can't say I blame then.

Here's Bruce playing damage control...
"If you are working in a very intense scene and someone takes you out of your groove...but was the most emotional scene in the movie," said Franklin. "And for him to get stopped in the middle of it. He is very intensely involved in his character. He didn't walk around like that all day long. It was just a moment and it passed."

"This was my second movie with Christian and it has always been a good experience with him," added Franklin, who also worked with the actor on 2000's Shaft. "He is so dedicated to the craft. I think someone is begging to make some noise about this but I don't think it's fair. ...

One word to describe Christian Bale's acting... INTENSE!

Volatile might be another. Some have wondered in the past where do the dark characters he plays end, and where does the man begin? When the actor was jailed last Summer for alledgely attacking his close family members, rumors about his hot headed temper started to fly.

Now it's no longer rumor, we can see hard evidence of this.

Now we wouldn't usually post this kind of gossip thing but man, if I didn't find this completely interesting to understand how hard Bale pushes himself. This is a man under pressure, a man who isn't satisfied unless he goes mentally to the limits and when your that kind of person, well this kind of rants is what can come of you.

TMZ have gotten their hands on some leaked audio from the set of TERMINATOR SALVATION last year when Bale completely lost all control and started to rant at Director of Photography Bruce Hurlbut, after the DP walked in on a scene Bale was acting in to check the lighting.

Bale threatens to kick Hulbert's ass and indeed quit the movie unless Hulbert was fired. He seemingly also takes up the chores of directing as he bosses around ...

Strange that TERMINATOR SALVATION wasn't being promoted during the Superbowl, it is after all alongside WATCHMEN and TRANSFORMERS 2, the biggest commercial release of this Summer.

The one movie that fan anticipation seems to be at it's highest for, especially after that pretty awesome trailer that we saw just before Christmas.

And even stranger when we know that director McG has completed his film and is anxious to show people that it's better than the last entry in this series. From the movies promoted during the half-time, a new trailer for this production would have been nice.

Instead we have to settle for these new production skills of the human resistance members.

First actress Moon Bloodgood (as Blair Williams, a pilot for the Resistance who has been described as “a no-nonsense and battle-hardened member of the resistance” suffering from survivor guilt)...

...and rapper/actor Common (as Barnes, a Resistance soldier and one of John Connor’s closest friends in Terminator Salvation)

The images came from ScreenWeek, which I found at a link via Coming Soon.

McG is mulling over several ways to connect his new movie TERMINATOR SALVATION with the previous trilogy. One of the options he has come up with is featuring an opening voice-over from Sarah Connor.

Coming Soon say he is flirting with asking Linda Hamilton to return for said voice-over, which would be her first involvement in the franchise sine TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY. In August, Hamilton suggested she would be interested in a return.

The site has also learnt that McG has spent much time with THE DARK KNIGHT co-writer Jonathan Nolan over the fifth and sixth movie in the series and hinted that "time travel has yet to be explored" in the new series.

Take that for what you will!

The 21st century CV of Danny Elfman, particularly his score for the SPIDER-MAN movies and his recent collaborations with his great friend Tim Burton haven't exactly been up to the glorious standard he set himself in the 80's and 90's, but he's still one of the best in the business and I'm happy to hear he has been hired to compose McG's TERMINATOR SALVATION.

Elfman revealed the news this weekend to MTV, where he answered the question on whether Brad Fiedel's classic score from the original two movies would be incorporated...
“I think if it comes up and it seems appropriate, we will [use it],” Elman said. “And if it doesn’t, we [won't]. I never really know what to expect when I begin other than just kind of get into it and have fun. Especially a movie like “T4” – just have fun. So that’s what I intend to do.”
MTV also tells us to expect a soundtrack contribution from star/rapper Common. In the movie he plays a freedom fighter who battles Skynet alongside John Connors.

Entertainment Weekly have what they claim is 21 new images from some of the biggest films of this newly birthed year but I'm not sure that's accurate. I'm certain I've seen several of these shots before, even if it's just from a slightly different angle.

So I'm just gonna post the one's which I thought were new or interesting, the rest you can see for yourself HERE.

Christian Bale as Melvin Purvis, the man hired to take chase gangster John Dillinger in Michael Mann's PUBLIC ENEMIES...

Dillinger, a man who many consider to be a Robin Hood figure of the early 20th century is played by Johnny Depp...

Bale ain't just taking down Dillinger next year but some TERMINATOR'S too!

John Travolta as the villain terroist in THE TAKING OF PELHAM 123 in Tony Scott's remake of the classic 70's thriller...

Pixar's UP!

Jack Black and Michael Cera in Harold Ramis THE YEAR ONE, a movie that hopefully won't just be remembered as being the catalyst for real movement on GHOSTBUSTERS 3.

Halycon and Warner Bros. are said to be so pleased with the work McG has done on the upcoming TERMINATOR SALVATION that work has already begun on a fifth movie in the franchise.

McG is currently working very closely with the studio in letting them know the direction he thinks the next movie should take. The plan we heard in 2006 was that TERMINATOR SALVATION would be the first of a trilogy featuring Christian Bale as John Connor.

Victor Kubicek, one half of the Halycon Co. toppers said...

"We feel the time is now to start shaping the next part of this,"
The announcement was made at the Dubai International Film Festival where it was hinted that the Middle East could be used as a shooting location.

TERMINATOR SALVATION opens 22nd May 2009 in the U.S. and June 5th in the U.K.

I am, and forever will be, a shameless fanboy dork when it comes to the first two TERMINATOR movies.

They signify much of what's great about movie-making, representing a confident and dynamic blend of story, character, action, special effects, drama - truly all of the stuff that makes movies so transporting. And it's easy to tolerate T3 with its handful-o-watchable scenes and solid effects, and to try and not get frustrated by its overly jokey tone, frequently silly Schwarzenegger performance, and story revelations that essentially take what's come before and rather distressingly upchuck all over it.

So I haven't been looking forward to TERMINATOR SALVATION under the unassured hand of a third-rate crapteur like McG. The franchise has been slowly whittled away from greatness, first with the departures of James Cameron and Linda Hamilton, and now without the defining Austrian face of Cyberdyne Systems' finest product, so one has to wonder just how true of a TERMINATOR movie we can expect to get.

But now that I've seen the full trailer, I can honestly say I'm excited to find out. It's a great looking clip that makes the movie look pretty terrific and - most importantly - displays little of the stylistic awfulness ...
