Despite the lapses in time/space science, I have always enjoyed the TERMINATOR series. To this point, it's been a muscular, man-style series, full of spectacular action set pieces, lioness-like heroines, and cynical brutality.

The first in the series, 1984's THE TERMINATOR, introduced the world to director JAMES CAMERON'S high-octane, lushly-photographed directorial style. It also propelled star ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER into the stratosphere with this, his first iconic performance as the killer robot from the future. Sadly, the film doesn't hold up as well as the others in the series, thanks to a decidely eighties look and sound, and also featuring some horrible stop-motion compositing that nearly ruins the brilliant designs of STAN WINSTON. Still, the catchphrases work, and the MICHAEL BIEHN/LINDA HAMILTON chemistry is perfect. And there are loads of "whoa" action moments.

Cameron returned to the series in 1991's TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY, inarguably the best in the series. Although the film has dated a bit, one is left to marvel at the astounding stunts and action sequences on display throughout. Even better is Hamilton, who bulked up in her return as the tough heroine, while Cameron shades the characters with depth and resonance. Arnold's Terminator is a hero this time around, ...

Similar to his deal with Warner Bros. over the Batman character, "Welsh but I can make myself sound so American... you wouldn't believe I wasn't one" actor Christian Bale has signed on to star in all three of the new Terminator movies as rebel leader John Connor.

The series is of course a brand new story arc, though not quite a restart. The film is expected to take place after the events of Terminator 2: Judgement Day where a depleted human race must rise up against the machines.

"he read the script and he loved it, so he's signed on for all three."
The film is expected to be - and unless a last minute cameo is arranged, the first without Arnie and as can be seen from that hideous Fox t.v. show The Sarah Connor Chronicles and it's dismal ratings, his presence was sorely missed.

As I'm assume you are all aware of now (we've told you enough times anyway) McG (Charlie's Angels) will be directing the film which co-stars Sam Worthington, Anton Yelchin, Moon Bloodgood and Common. It's a tentpole release for next May.

Hungry cast but a director out of his depth? Still fuck it, Bale's a frikkin' machine and has picked ...

PREVIOUSLY ON T4...
We heard that the movie was to begin production in October, even though at that time they had no-one officially cast and no director at the helm. Well according to CHUD, we may now have that director...

An inside source has told them that McG is in talks to direct the currently UNTITLED FOURTH INSTALLMENT OF THE TERMINATOR FRANCHISE, which the Halycolyn Company are pushing as a pre-strike movie.

McG is the guy who brought us WE ARE MARSHALL and CHARLIE'S ANGELS and is known for his music vids.

Time to panic now?

He's not exactly the name we were hoping for to revive this franchise and you really have to wonder what they are doing here. They have a chance to do whatever they want with the series to start it again but instead they are looking to rush the project through by going with a script from the guys who wrote the last movie (big mistake) and by hiring a helmer who has nothing on his CV that would warrant him to make this.

Really, there's no rush guys. I know the strike is coming but that doesn't mean you HAVE to make this movie now. Why don't you sit on ...

On the pre-strike movie list we published two weeks ago, the much talked about TERMINATOR 4 was absent, leading us to believe once again that the movie had hit a snag and was placed firmly on the back burner once again.

That might not exactly be true if you are to believe Sarah Middleton, the producer of THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES as she once again reiterates that the fourth movie in the franchise will actually be the first of a new three movie arc.

She confirms that the writers of THE TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES are still on board (which like I said when it was first announced this makes no sense what-so-ever) and that although they haven't found a director, they want production to have begun next month for a 2009 release.

She claims the John Connor and Kate Brewster characters are written into the script but it's not known whether Nick Stahl or Claire Danes would be approached to reprise their roles from the last movie. The title will not be TERMINATOR 4 and will be titled TERMINATOR: "BLAH BLAH BLAH" as previously speculated, and interestingly it will feature a new hero...
"Ben-Hur was influenced by Jesus Christ, but it ...

Variety report that similar to what happened with Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, the currently untitled fourth installment of the series is suffering from the same kind of legal problems that is halting the movie's progression.

In their article, they claim that the Halycon Co. who now own the rights to the series are suing MGM for interfering with their right to negotiate for the distribution of the planned fourth film.

I've read the story at Variety three times now but I still can't get a full understanding of what the full implications of all this are. As I understand it, Terminator 4 is likely to be delayed for quite some time if both sides are unwilling to budge on this matter. This is the kind of thing that stops movie's getting going time and time again so maybe we shouldn't be expecting a Terminator 4 movie for a while.

Instead, we can enjoy The Sarah Connor Chronicles T.V. series when it debuts later this year, although the trailer looked awful. Wanna refresh your memory...

Well his name kinda sounds like Schwarzenegger!

Coming Soon have got the scoop on some talk about the new Terminator movie, which was sent to them by "Pauluz"...
Just wanted to inform you about something interesting. The male model Marcus Schenkenberg was on a Dutch tv show and mentioned he went to Cannes last week and booked four new movie roles. One thing that stood out was Terminator 4 and he also mentioned that Schwarzenegger would have a 30-sec cameo. A clip of the interview that will be online next week.
So it's not actually stated that he will be the new Terminator but he certainly has the build for it.

Could a male model play the character that Arnie totally owns? I guess he doesn't have to say much and really all he has to do is walk around looking big and spurting a few lines.

A 30 second cameo from Arnie sounds fun but anything more will be distracting IMO.

Yesterday Matt announced that there will be a further 3 movies in the Terminator series. Today Moviehole have the heads up on the possibility that Arnold Schwarzenegger WILL feature in the movies... through the magic of CGI!

Halcyon, the studio behind the new movies, have said that Arnie has granted them permission to use his 'likeness' in the movies. Halycon’s Derek Anderson had this to say:
“We’ll be using computer altered stock images of Arnold. That way we can span his entire career, from the frightening 80’s era Terminator to the ice cool T2 version”
And that is not all! Schwarzenegger's representive, Annabelle Gross is quoted as saying “He’s signed on as Executive Producer for all three pictures, and we are in talks for further appearance licenseing”.

It should be pointed out, however, that none of this is concrete and the Austrian hasn't spoke out about any of this as of yet. It could be interesting seeing how this works out. Although I don't want to see any more Terminator movies, I'd sure as hell love to see how this comes together if they used CGI Arnie!

The Terminator is back.

The Halycon Co. have purchased the rights to the franchise and they now intend to make a brand new trilogy, the first of which will be released in the first half of 2009. There will be no James Cameron involved which we all knew anyway, and certainly no Arnold Schwarzenegger. This is a brand new trilogy, that will focus on John Connor in his 30's as part of a very depleted human race who must stand up against the machines.

The next installment, Terminator 4 will be based on a script written by John D. Brancato and Michael Ferris who collaborated together on Terminator 3 and also that hideous Catwoman movie.

The new deal also includes any t.v. spinoffs, merchandise, profits from the previous movie and all licensing rights including certain rights to The Sarah Connor Chronicles T.V. show which still hasn't had it's pilot picked up by anyone yet.

What's your thoughts on this guys? Surely it's a strange move to keep the writers from the weakest film in the franchise when you are going for a completely new cast, tone and direction. Can three more movies work, without Arnie or Cameron's involvement?

Who for The Terminator? Who for director? ...

Rick Sands who is the chief operating officer (cool title) of MGM has been speaking about some of the company's future projects at a ceremony for Slyvester Stallone yesterday at the Orlando World Marriott Center.

On the topic of Terminator 4 he mentioned that it won't be titled that, or simply T4 but instead will be "Terminator blah blah, not Four," also hinting that a new guy will be taking over the role of The Terminator from Arnold Schwarzenegger... "It's like the 'Batman' or 'Superman' franchise in that it lends itself to having different actors in the roles,"

Sands also mentioned that talks are currently taking place between MGM and New Line regarding The Hobbit and that a sequel to The Thomas Crown Affair is likely to happen with Pierce Brosnan reprising his role as the lead.

Glad to hear that things are moving along in regards to The Hobbit. With The Terminator though I have to disagree with the guy. The role is nothing like Batman or Superman...... Arnie IS the Terminator, there is no other form to this character. It's like Bruce Willis is John McClane or Slyvester Stallone is Rocky.... you can't imagine anyone else playing that role.

MGM have announced their plans for several film projects they plan to make over the next couple of years. They include.....

The Hobbit (report says they want Jackson to direct but no talks have taken place as of yet)

Terminator 4 (with or without Arnie)

The Thomas Crown Affair Sequel (in talks with Brosnan)

Pink Panther Sequel (already signed and in production)

So, it looks like we may get to see The Hobbit after all. I doubt that MGM would have any trouble convincing Jackson to direct the picture as it's no secret he has wanted to do it for some time. The only reason he hasn't already is the problem with the rights of adapting the book into a film which a co-owned by MGM and New Line. For the project to happen both studio's need to work together, which looks like it may happen.

It will be interesting to see what they do with the fourth installment of the Terminator franchise, especially if they can't get Arnie back. Who on earth would they cast?
