But we know nothing about it, other than it's listed on the "in development" page at the Legendary Pictures official website (though the site has to be hacked to be found) and that it's being billed as a sequel to SUPERMAN RETURNS.

“Ramping up the action of its esteemed predecessor, the sequel to ‘Superman Returns’ promises to raise the stakes and take the audience to heights of action that no other superhero movie can achieve.”
We don't know who pitched it (maybe Singer?) or what it's about but it's just one of what you would think are many Superman related project pitches turned into the studio over the past six months since the studio confirmed they were inviting scripts from anyone with a good idea for either reboots or sequels.

Wish I could be a fly on the wall at the WB offices, hearing conversations about the pro's and con's of each individual pitch.

For all the many, many problems I had with SUPERMAN RETURNS, barely any of them involved Brandon Routh or his performance as the last son of Krypton.

I thought he was damn solid, in fact quite brilliant as Clark Kent, if a little too washed out to be Superman. I would give his Clark Kent a solid A but his Superman just a B... though I would love to see the young actor have another crack at it.

Even though Warner Bros. are in the reboot mode for one of their most famous characters, the studio might yet hang their hopes on Routh one more time. Speaking to Latino Review, DC head chief Paul Levitz revealed Routh has held talks with them over their new direction...
“Last week Brandon Routh has come around the offices in New York and Los Angeles as of late to talk about Superman and what we want to do”
That new reboot was announced a few weeks ago, with WB actively encouraging writers to pitch their ideas for a new direction, the most vocal being Mark Millar... the comic book writer who wrote the comics WANTED and next year's KICK-ASS are based on.

It would certainly be easier for Warner ...

25 months ago, a movie called Superman Returns made me more angry than any film I had seen in nearly ten years. Not since Batman & Robin in 1997 had I ever been so pissed at a Hollywood production. Not Godzilla, not Battlefield Earth, not Pearl Harbour, nothing pissed me off as much as Supes and his ridiculous Return.

But I'm over it. I created Obsessed With Film because of it and life is treating me pretty well right now. And it finally looks like Warner Bros. are ready to move on to, after all life with The Dark Knight is treating them well too.

WB are set to re-write history. As far as the future goes Superman Returns didn't exist, they are doing what they should have done in the first place and are rebooting the franchise.

Warner Bros. Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov has told the Wall Street Journal that they are doing what Louis Leterier did at Marvel with The Incredible Hulk. What Christopher Nolan did with Batman Begins and what eventually led to The Dark Knight - one of the biggest and most profitable films of all time.

They are admitting they made a mistake and are starting again...
"'Superman' didn't ...

Why might this news effect Superman: The Man of Steel and Justice League Mortal?
A federal judge here on Wednesday ruled that the heirs of Jerome Siegel — who 70 years ago sold the rights to the action hero he created with Joseph Shuster to Detective Comics for $130 — were entitled to claim a share of the United States copyright to the character. The ruling left intact Time Warner’s international rights to the character, which it has long owned through its DC Comics unit.
Well I can tell you why.

This new ruling means that the Siegel estate is likely to be owed some of the cut of the $200 million domestic taking of Superman Returns, making that film even more of a financial disappointment for Warner Bros who haven't been as enthusiast to go ahead with the sequel as they did for Christopher Nolan and their other big DC property.

This could also have an impact on the Justice League of America movie which will use the Superman character as one of it's main players.

You can read the whole article in THE NEW YORK TIMES HERE.

Review by Matt Holmes

[rating: 3]

You can tell that Bryan Singer loved what Richard Donner did with Superman in the 70's. Every shot, piece of dialogue and musical score is a homage to the great Richard Donner movie. Superman Returns is clearly made by someone who was having the time of their life and is not so much a new start for Superman like Batman enjoyed last year under Christopher Nolan, it's a continuation right from where Superman II left off.

This is Superman II.5: Superman Returns.

Quite shocking when Warner Bros. got it so right with Batman Begins last year and the fanboys are still buzzing over "the right way" to do a comic book superhero on film. This is a franchise that could have done with a new restart... why this wasn't called Superman Begins, Superman: Rebirth, Superman: The Man of Steel or something that ...
