The Rock’s G.I. JOE cameo is Shipwrecked!

It ain’t happening, The Rock won’t be in G.I. Joe.

The actor and Paramount did have an early agreement in place which stated that he would fly in to say a couple of lines for a cameo - much like the Samuel L. Jackson scene at the end of Iron Man - but it didn’t work out when Stephen Sommers came to the conclusion that they already had to many characters and plot lines to deal with.

Latino Review say we can be assured that if a sequel does get made, The Rock will probably be in it as the comedic Navy Seals character.

Images of virtually the whole main cast of G.I. JOE!

These images remind me of when I first saw some of the CGI crap that Stephen Sommers tried to push through with Van Helsing - one of my personal most disappointing movies of the last five years.

I know nothing of G.I. Joe, so I’m not really the best person to comment but honestly, this film looks awful. Boring and completely opposite of the cool looking and arresting leaked images from Watchmen.

We start with our very first look at Chris Eccleston (who can be a very boring actor to watch) as James McCullen Destro XXIV which was sent to IESB

Storm Shadow played by Byung-Hun-Lee landed at Latino Review

Coming Soon debuted the first look at former Lost actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Heavy Duty who maybe has some of that Jules Winnfield divine intervention from Pulp Fiction going on…

Dark Horizons got sent an image of Breaker, played by Said Taghmaoui

And then other sites got looks at characters we had already seen…

Sienna Miller again as Baroness, who is quickly becoming almost a poster child for the film. That one belongs to IGN

A bored looking Dennis Quaid as General Hawk which Collider got their hands on…

CHUD were chosen as the place of origin for Marlon Wayans as Ripcord…

And finally Channing Tatum as Duke over at MTV…

Brendan Fraser confirms G.I. JOE cameo

Confirmation has come from the horse’s mouth that Brendan Fraser will have a cameo in Stephen Sommers’ blockbuster G.I. Joe, a reunion of the actor and director who worked together on the first two Mummy films.

gho-brendan2.jpg

His cameo as Gung-Ho we believe to have already been filmed. Fraser reveals to Newsarama that he gets to ride a three wheeled bike as part of his brief appearance…

Fraser was first rumored for a cameo in Joe earlier this month in the same report which said The Rock would have a more significant role as Shipwreck.

We await confirmation on that one.

X-MEN SPINOFF: G.I. JOE

I thought the cool thing about G.I. Joe was that each character was so individual - they all have their own unique attire, attributes and personality which could all be transformed into cool toys marketing for kids.

Instead they have gone for the watered down X-Men route. God I hated those bland “team” suits where everyone was wearing the same lame black uniform, I mistake that I think waters down their characters, especially someone like Cyclops.

After that image of Rachel Nichols as Scarlett leaked a few days ago we feared that “black” was the uniform colour and we were right. These looks so boring…

Channing Tatum as Duke.

Sienna Miller as Baroness. Just what is going on with those glasses?

Modelling the G.I. Joe camoflauge attire is model Karloina Kurkova. This is a movie you know…

Marlon Wayans as Ripcord.

Rachel Nichols as Scarlett. How ridiculous is this suit?

Byung-hun Lee as Storm Shadow who looks like he just dropped out of The Matrix and Baroness again. Those heels can’t be practical.

A few new shots of Ray Park of Snake Eyes…

And then Grandad Dennis Quaid as Hawk.

First look at Scarlett from G.I. JOE!

I’m always a sucker for a red head.

Courtesy of Joblo, here’s our first look at the ultra hot Scarlett from Stephen Sommers‘ next movie G.I. Joe - portrayed by Rachel Nichols of P2 fame.

She’s also in next year’s Star Trek reboot so she’s sure to be a pinup girl for many a geek.

scarlett11.jpg

Black seems to be Sommers’ colour of choice for his blockbuster. We previously got a glimpse at Ray Park as Snake Eyes last month. Hope these don’t turn out as boring as the original X-Men movie’s suits.

Sommers re-teams with Brendan Fraser & The Rock for G.I. JOE!?!

Crazy, crazy news story from the good folks at Latino Review who have rarely been wrong in the past when it comes to blockbuster scoops for the biggest movies in Hollywood.

The site carry the exclusive news that Brendan Fraser will appear in G.I. Joe for a brief cameo (possibly setting up the chance to appear in future movies) and Sommers is trying desperately hard to convince The Rock to appear in a significant role. Both actors worked with Sommers on The Mummy franchise.

In Brendan Fraser’s case, they claim he has already shot a one scene cameo in the training sequence segment of the film as Gung-Ho, who looks like a rather goofy fellow…

gho-brendan.jpg

They also claim an offer has been made to The Rock to play Shipwreck…

Joe isn’t my strong point so I have no idea who these guys are. We await some kind of confirmation.

G.I. JOE pics!

I’m a little surprised we haven’t seen more spy footage from the sets of the currently filming G.I. Joe. It sure looked like we would when the first couple of days of the shot saw several photo’s of the cast and crew leak onto the web including this one of Dennis Quaid as General Hawk.

Maybe Paramount have finally gotten round to improving their security.

AICN and USA Today have our first look at Ray Park’s character Snake Eyes, the mute ninja commando and a huge fan favourite with fanboys…

snake_eyes_large.jpg

joex-large.jpg

As you know I’m ignorant towards G.I. Joe but I’ll be damned, if a movie that involves a cool looking ninja played by Ray Park doesn’t hold my interest somewhat.

That image above looks cool, I can’t wait to see the rest of the crew. I like that all these guys have such a backstory and individual look to them. It reminds me a little of that cool video game Jagged Alliance. Do you remember that? One of the coolest aspect of the game was choosing your group of mercenaries from a pool of around 60 and as a geek looking through their origins and abilities was just so cool.

I always thought that could make a cool movie. Maybe this will be my Jagged Alliance movie?

G.I. Joe fans, let your voice be heard. What do you think of the Snake-Eyes look?

G.I. JOE begins filming today

Hasbro have announced that G.I. JOE has begun shooting today and have confirmed that it will be one of two big Paramount tentpoles based on their toy franchises due out Summer 2009.

The other of course being TRANSFORMERS 2 but honestly, I’ll believe it when I see it. How a second movie can be ready to go already, especially with the WGA strike blocking any work over the past three months is beyond me.

So for the last time, a recap of the cast & crew on one of the biggest movies of 09…

Sommers brings his MUMMY to G.I. JOE!

The casting of Channing Tatum as Duke has gone down about as well as Stephen Sommers’ last movie VAN HELSING but all cannot be lost just yet on next year’s attempt at a successful movie franchise from a kid’s toy.

Every now and again Sommers will cast a physical actor who I enjoy immensely that will re-spark my interest (however mild that may be) in this movie. We know he’s got Ray Park already in the bag and the word has leaked tonight at IESB that he is bringing his MUMMY villain to the table.

vosloo-zartan.jpg

Arnold Vosloo who appeared in both THE MUMMY and THE MUMMY RETURNS as the villain high priest Imohotep has been cast as Zartan, a mercenary who in this film will work with Cobra. His role is likely to to be one the main villain parts in Paramount’s blockbuster and is a gig that will require Vosloo to be as big a presence on screen as he was as THE MUMMY.

Zartan is a master of disguises and can speak twenty languages and dialects… whilst also being a keen martial artist. In the original canon, he was also the leader of a biker gang known as Dreadnoks but they won’t be making an appearance in this film.

Lots of characters already in this one but IESB promise more over the following week. Seriously, is he making G.I. JOE or MORTAL KOMBAT here? Actually speaking of KOMBAT, half of the G.I. JOE cast would fit in pretty well in that franchise, maybe more than that actually.

Maybe they should scrap JOE… and just make MK3? Thoughts?

Tatum wins Duke role

Latino Review called it, the lead role in G.I. JOE has gone to STEP UP actor Channing Tatum, marking the biggest role of the 27 year old’s career so far. The guy has been linked with nearly every franchise role under the sun in the last year including THE INCREDIBLE HULK and THE PUNISHER but it’s taken Paramount to be the studio that went ahead and gave him the ball.

I would have preferred Mark Wahlberg or the originally cast Sam Worthington (AVATAR delay ruled him out) but I’m willing to give Tatum a chance. And hey, it can’t be worse than the casting of Marlon Wayans.

tatum-duke.jpg

I’ve never really seen Tatum act outside of COACH CARTER and his uncredited “Boy in church scene’ from WAR OF THE WORLDS… so I’m not angry at this though from the outside looking in if there was one part that badly needed an actor of note and some cinematic chops it was this one.

Duke’s the main character of the bunch right, if not officially the leader? So surely someone like Wahlberg or Clooney was perfect for this, and that extra age they had on the rest of the cast would be a benefit.

There’s nothing but big pessimism over this project on the web right now and although I’ll agree some of the casting choices are questionable for this type of feature, some of them are very exciting (Ray Park, Joseph-Gordon Levitt).

And then there’s Sommers who I think this perfect for this kind of big budget, outrageous summer blockbuster. THE MUMMY was good… don’t forget that!

IESB say the actors portraying Destro, Zartan, Hawk, Shipwreck and Cover Girl should be announced sometime within the next week.
