In a recent interview about The Clone Wars on starwars.com, executive producer George Lucas talks about there being three worlds to the Star Wars universe:
There’s my world that I made up, there’s the licensing world, that’s the books, the comics, all that kind of stuff, the games, which is their world, and then there’s the fans’ world, which is also very rich in imagination, but they don’t always mesh. All I’m in charge of is my world.
According to Lucas, The Clone Wars lands firmly on this first world, a seventh movie in the Star Wars canon. But there's a double standard at work here. Lucas is happy to borrow from the second world whenever it suits his purposes. If you were to take a look at starwars.com today, you'd be hard-pressed to find a reference to Cartoon Network's award-winning 2003 series Star Wars: Clone Wars, yet The Clone Wars borrows from it wholesale.

For those who haven't seen the 2003 cartoon, Clone Wars takes place between the events of Episode II - Attack of the Clones and Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. Anakin Skywalker has earned himself a battlefield promotion and is now a full-fledged Jedi Knight, but ...

Let me tell you a story about my first love.

It was June 4th, 1977. That Saturday, like most summer days in St. Louis, steamed under a blanket of oppressive humidity. Polyester leisure suits gave way to polyester tank tops, while feathered Farrah Fawcett hairstyles wilted in the unrelenting airlessness. Trans Ams shimmied on the blacktop like mirages.

Not even the cruel climate could have ruined my day that Saturday. Freshly released from fourth grade, I bounced happily in the backseat of our white '73 Caprice (which I called the Mach Five) and unconcerned about the lack of luxuries like air conditioning and decent stereo sound. Even my little sister Debbie's presence, which would normally produce an effect similar to waving a red flag in front of a bull, could not diminish my enthusiasm in the slightest.

We pulled into the Carol House furniture store parking lot around 1pm. I knew we only had two hours until the show started, and every other pursuit in life seemed to be a pointless distraction from the truly important quest in life - seeing this movie. I tugged and twisted on my mother's arm, begging her to hurry my father through the mattresses as quickly as ...

Will there be midnight showings, street long cues and fanboys getting so very over excited when Star Wars: The Clone Wars opens in August?

We might have a better idea in May when the trailer plays for the first time along with showings of the Wachowski's Speed Racer.

The news comes from Coming Soon who also give us this brief preview...
The August 15 release will feature such characters as Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Padmé Amidala, along with brand-new heroes like Anakin's padawan learner, Ahsoka. In the film, Sinister villains – led by Palpatine, Count Dooku and General Grievous – are poised to rule the galaxy. Stakes are high, and the fate of the "Star Wars" universe rests in the hands of the daring Jedi Knights. Their exploits lead to the action-packed battles and astonishing new revelations.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars is actually a brand new CGI series to be shown on the Cartoon Network beginning in the fall (October we think) but in August, George Lucas will make an obscene amount of money by simply rolling out several episodes back-to-back to make a feature film.

And of course we will more than likely all put down our money to see it. Well ...
