A study in Forbes makes a great case for one-note, high salary comedy actor Will Ferrell being Hollywood's most overpaid thesp after two years of underperforming hits and flops.

Their study suggests "for every dollar Ferrell was paid, his films earned an average $3.29" which compares to Shia LaBeouf's "$160 return per dollar"... though on that scale the study is slightly flawed as no-one saw Indy IV and Transformers 2 because LaBeouf was in it.
Land of the Lost is a movie that is at least
$35 million in the red for Universal.

This summer's Land of the Lost was one of those epic Hollywood disasters that...ended up costing an estimated $100 million and earned only $65 million at the worldwide box office.

Universal studio heads Marc Shmuger and David Linde were subsequently fired.

Land of the Lost's dismal box office helped land star Will Ferrell at the top of our annual list of Hollywood's Most Overpaid Stars. Ferrell is no longer the sure bet he seemed after hits like Elf ($220 million worldwide box office) and Talladega Nights ($162 million box office). Ferrell's 2008 film Semi-Pro earned only $43 million. Step Brothers did better with $128 million, but it wasn't enough to help Ferrell--mainly because ...

Before we start, let me just quickly establish a couple of terms:

Transformers; a group of robots created in the 1980s capable of changing shape in to various recognisable machines. Two bands known as Autobots and Decepticons are locked in an epic battle which will decide the fate of humanity.

Bayformers; film series in which the aforementioned Transformers are parodied as a group of wise-cracking cartoon characters who are fighting for the fate of the USA and its accompanying galactic hegemony.

Now, onto the review... Sweet Jesus! Does Michael Bay not know how to make a movie? Someone needs to send him back to film school. Watching Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen convinced me that he speaks to political advisers, image consultants, the creators of Ren and Stimpy, and animators before he realises he needs scriptwriters.

Bayformers 2 is a mess of a story loosely glued together with lame jokes, fighting pixels and Megan Fox's ass. The worst thing is that I kind of enjoyed some of it, which leads me to question my own sanity, but also to question how necessary is plot in a film that's all about the spectacle - the smell of the jet fuel, the sound of the ...

We've gone from the "think mode" comments in October to having now "cracked the story" in June, as Shia LaBeouf claims Steven Spielberg told him personally before he went on press for Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen that the new Indiana Jones movie is "gearing up".

LaBeouf spilled it to BBC News

Not that I think anyone cares anymore, surely the time has passed on this series now?

Was the final scene of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull the passing of the torch to LaBeouf as the fedora fell to his feet?

Will Harrison Ford, recently named by Forbes as the highest earning man of the past year in Hollywood for reportedly accepting a $65 million deal to star in the last movie and Crossing Over, even be a part of this picture? (of course he will).

Can anyone be duped again by George Lucas?

Remember when Spielberg was actually significant in modern day film-making? Do you not remember how great Munich was just four years ago, or how fun Catch Me If You Can was?

Why isn't he making INTERSTELLAR SCRIPTED BY JONATHAN NOLAN... and giving us the kind of film that made him the king of Hollywood.

Spielberg, seriously, give Sony a ...

One thing's for certain, you can't knock Oliver Stone for not being current these days. He moved from World Trade Center, to a movie about the Bush administration and the former President himself just as he was about to leave office and final judgement be cast upon him and now he's set to revisit world finance, at a scary time in the global economy.

The news hit yesterday that Oliver Stone, as I call him America's cinematic conscious, is out to attack hedge funds by making a sequel to Wall Street, the movie that had the slogan "greed is good" when it won a Best Leading Man Oscar for Michael Douglas in 1987. Oh, how Stone will enjoy using a similar tagline today.

Variety say Stone, who will be directing his first ever sequel, has joined the project which was actually setup back in 2007 to re-star Michael Douglas from a script written by Lolita (the remake) scribe Stephen Schiff for 20th Century Fox and attracted the attention of Stephen Frears (The Queen). The recent recession outdated Schiff's screenplay and a re-write was ordered from Allan Loeb, who already tackled man's greed towards money with last year's 21 and is actually a licensed stockbroker.

UPDATED: Michael Bay needs time off (it's my opinion that Paramount have announced a possible big movie that they MIGHT be releasing in 2011 just to stop other studios taking that date. If it's not going be TRANSFORMERS 3, it will be something else... and I can't imagine they would drop Bay to rush a third movie out by another director).

Bay on his forums...
I said I was taking off a year from Transformers. Paramount made a mistake in dating Transformers 3 - they asked me on the phone - I said yes to July 4 - but for 2012 - whoops! Not 2011!!! That would mean I would have to start prep in September. No way. My brain needs a break from fighting robots. -- Michael
Dreamworks and Paramount have almost found their own version of the SPIDER-MAN and James Bond franchises, more specifically the latter as they are forging ahead with a movie every two years at this rate.

Before even the release of TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN and well before anyone had even thought about a third movie, the studio's have gone ahead and staked July 1st. 2011 as their release date for TRANSFORMERS 3.

Variety say it's a case ...

Once again, one wonders if the name William Monahan is actually a pseudonym for three or four Hollywood scribes because Variety carry news of at least the 100th project he has must be working on right now.

Paramount Pictures have hired the Oscar winning THE DEPARTED scribe to adapt John Grisham's latest best selling legal thriller THE ASSOCIATE which since December has had Shia LaBeouf attached to lead.
LaBeouf will play a Yale Law School student with a sordid secret that leaves him vulnerable to blackmail. He's manipulated into taking a job at a law firm and working on a multibillion-dollar lawsuit.
LaBeouf became a fan of the novel whilst reading it on the set of TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN last Summer and convinced producer Lorenzo Dibonaventura that this was to be his next starring vehicle.

I've yet to read Grisham's latest but I do like the idea of LaBeouf channeling more the Tom Cruise early 90's (a film like THE FIRM comes to mind) than becoming the tired old young lead of the Summer blockbuster.

You may need to change the brightness of your screen to view it properly but here's the first official artwork for this Summer's TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN...

I guess it promises a much darker, meaner and less clean looking film than the original.

Though it doesn't half remind me of Sauron from THE LORD OF THE RINGS...

TRANSFORMERS 2 opens June 26th and is once again directed by Michael Bay. Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox star.

Paramount Pictures are banking on Shia LaBeouf once again, giving the young star of DISTURBIA, TRANSFORMERS 1 and 2 and INDY IV - the lead role in a new John Grisham thriller.

The movie is THE ASSOCIATES and it's based on Grisham's first legal thriller novel in three years when it's published in January.

LaBeouf will play a student who's about to graduate from Yale Law School when he's manipulated into accepting a job at a prestige law firm and given privileged information about a multibillion-dollar lawsuit.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing. He got a copy of the book whilst in the Middle East with TRANSFORMERS 2: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN and loved it. He talked to LaBeouf on set and they bonded over the story and a deal was quickly done according to Variety.

di Bonaventura has previously produced the Grisham thrillers A TIME TO KILL and THE CLIENT. Grisham himself says the lead character in this one most closely resembles Tom Cruise's character in Grisham's thriller THE FIRM.

Perfect kind of material for LaBeouf, the sort of thriller that Ben Affleck showed his great acting chops at the turn of the century. I'm much ...

No doubt you heard recently about Shia LaBeouf's car accident and subsequent arrest for suspicion of DUI which has left him with a severe hand injury that had to be operated on and has to now be rested for a month before he can return to acting.

The actor was in the middle of filming on Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen but after some logistical re-scheduling, it's not expected that filming will be delayed or fully halted.

LaBeouf's co-star on next year's tentpole release Isabella Lucas was also in the car during the incident.

LaBeouf was later cleared of all charges relating to the accident itself by the police but he will be back in court next month to answer the DUI charge.

My copies of Raiders of the Lost Ark (one of my favourite films of all time), Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade (one of my most watched films of all time) I get round to viewing at least once a year - never getting old, always being the same entertaining films I always thought they were and with Indy, the bumbling hero - the guy who made archaeology cool and was the definition of the ultimate mortal hero.

He hurts, he bleeds, he shows emotion but always comes back for more. Because history demands it!

Indy has been with me all my life but it's Harrison Ford that disappeared. He was my childhood hero, the man who I would look out for in movies to give me guidance on how and often how not to live my life. Then something happened... just after Air Force One he disappeared, hardly to be seen again. He became miserable, age and life had finally caught up to him. He would only take on ...

So I saw this trailer last night as part of a 50 reel trailer fest that was attached to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (more on that later) which was determined to put everyone to sleep before the damn thing begun.

Anyway, the trailer kinda got lost in the shuffle between The Dark Knight and Wall-E - however what the hell trailer could live up to them awesome looking movies anyway.

From the looks of things the movie is a much more fast paced, real time thriller than I thought it would be. It almost feels like The Bourne Ultimatum in that sense or an episode of 24 - and done right those can be exciting two hours that fly by in theatres.

The wrong-man caught in over his head has a nice Enemy of the State feel to it, and especially the opening Keanu Reeves sequence from The Matrix (you know... the phone calling saying he should run) but can they sustain the excitement like a Paul Greengrass directed real time movie can?

SEE IT IN WHAT YAHOO CLAIM IS HD!

I'm really digging Shia LaBeouf as an actor right now, I really don't see where the hate ...

[rating: 1]

Are we all ready? Harrison Ford's been wheeled out, Cate Blanchett has spent 3 days in Kiev practising her accent, Shia LaBeouf has finished grooming himself and George Lucas is ready with the cash register: it's Indy time!

The plot is predictably stupid for an Indiana Jones movie, it's 1957 and the aged archeologist has been kidnapped by commies and taken to a secret US military installation to identify an artefact he excavated years ago in a triple top-secret mission. Once the artefact (a really really old transparent, psychic and weirdly shaped skull that is sometimes magnetic, and sometimes attracts gold) is found we begin an all-important tug-of-war over this astounding object to decide the fate of the world!

Indiana Jones and the Selectively Magnetic Head... no... wait... Indiana Jones and the Shit-Looking Plastic Alien Brain... hang on, nearly there... Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is a fucking waste of time, a pointless ...

This is pretty hilarious. Out in Cannes - George Lucas was talking to Fox News about the future of the recently resurrected Indiana Jones franchise when he came up with this doozy of a quote...
"I haven’t even told Steven or Harrison this," he said. "But I have an idea to make Shia [LeBeouf] the lead character next time and have Harrison [Ford] come back like Sean Connery did in the last movie. I can see it working out.

"And it’s not like Harrison is even old. I mean, he’s 65 and he did everything in this movie. The old chemistry is there, and it’s not like he’s an old man. He’s incredibly agile; he looks even better than he did 20 years ago, if you ask me."
No shit Lucas.

Because NO-ONE saw that coming did they?

You yourself may not have told Spielberg or Ford - but the whole rest of the Internet land did last Summer.

If he keeps this franchise game up, LaBeouf may well become the richest young male actor around in another five years time.

On a side note - I booked my tickets tonight for Indiana Jones next week. A midnight showing on Wednesday night at my local cinema which ...

EW, the very source who broke the story of talks between actor Jonah Hill and Paramount over a sidekick role in the Transformers sequel - are today also the place to tell us that those talks broke down and he won't be in the final feature after all.

No word has been given as to why. Maybe they didn't offer him enough, the role wasn't big enough or whatever.

But the truth is he won't be in the picture.

Word is though he will cameo in the Night at the Museum sequel due out next year May which will just once again confirm to my girlfriend that yes indeed, Jonah Hill seems to just float in and out of movies without much fanfare.

Transformers 2 is expected to begin shooting soon (if it hasn't already) once again under the direction of Michael Bay - with Shia LaBeouf and the majority of the previous cast (no word on Megan Fox yet though) back and so far only Aussie hottie Teresa Palmer as a newcomer.

So, I saw the hilarious Forgetting Sarah Marshall last week (which I think is the funniest film in at least three years) and the moment Jonah Hill popped up for his supporting role, my girlfriend goes - "that guy is in everything... is he like the American version of Russell Brand - does he just play himself on screen, is he famous?".

Which I think does sum up Jonah Hill's career thus far. He has pigeon-holed himself with a certain character which he does play very well it has to be said but the more he will do this type of role, the less easy it will be for him to break out in the future.

But the money from this film will keep him going for a while.

EW say Jonah Hill is in early talks to join the Michael Bay sequel to his Transformers movie. It's said he will provide the comic relief as a sidekick to Shia LaBeouf's character... possibly as a college roommate. In the first movie LaBeouf kinda did both roles himself, so now he can give some of the comedic lines to Hill.

The Dreamworks/Paramount movie will begin filming this summer, probably June - for a release next ...

Chain-smoker Shia LaBeouf has agreed to star in the drug thriller Dark Fields, an adaptation of Alan Gynn's 2002 novel which is in the hands of Universal.

The story centers on a guy who gets a hold of the ultimate smart pill - which would allow you to do things such as learn another language in one night, see patterns in the stock market with no experience and gives you the confidence to pickup anyone women you like in a room full of strangers. Of course like any drug, there are side effects - blackouts, tiredness and even murder!

Neil Burger who directed the interestingly made but totally flawed thriller The Illusionist will helm from a script by Leslie Dixon (Hairspray, Pay it Forward). Dixon has taken a less cash incentive on the movie because she believes in the potential of it and will have more say during it's production than a usual writer would have, presumably she had a hand in this casting too.

Project sounds pretty cool and I really did like the atmospheric tone that Burger brought to The Illusionist. If he is working with a better script there could be something very cool brewing here and I know LaBeouf ...
