I would love to be able to sit here and tell you I'd reviewed Streets of Blood and had been completely blown away- that I had just watched Val Kilmer cement the comeback he playfully hinted at with Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and 50 Cent notch up his breakout performance that would surely see him fully accepted as an actor in his own right.

Sadly though someone has kidnapped my postman. Seriously, I know there is talk of a strike once again over pay (try working in retail you Postman Pat fucks!) but I havent had so much as a Reader's Digest Winners Acknowledgement for two weeks. Having expected a raft of review discs in the same period, I'm more than a touch miffed at the conspicuous lack of even the lightest thud on the mat of Obsessed Towers in the morning.

So, instead I'm stuck with just advertising the releases Ive missed out on (I refuse to stream things generally), and watching some of the millions of DVDs I've bought over the past six months. Yesterday, as a link to the Val Kilmer led Streets of Blood, I watched Top Secret! (a lesser known output of the Zuckers). Needless to say, it's ...

No this is not a joke post where I'm about to show you a Youtube mash up of Steve Guttenberg being, well Steve Guttenberg.

This is actually a serious news post. I think.

Guttenberg this week has told the British Press that he is in talks for a new POLICE ACADEMY movie AND a third movie in the THREE MEN AND A... franchise.

Guttenberg has being doing Pantomine in the U.K. so the precedent for a crap joke may have played it's part in these comments but well, he did say these things.

To The Sun regarding new POLICE ACADEMY...
“We are doing a new movie and it is going to be great fun," he said. "A script is being written and so far it is really great, everyone from the original movies who is still around will return.”

“I know Kim and Sharon have been asked but they haven’t said yes yet. It would be really great to have them onboard.”
Kim being Kim Cattrall who appeared in the very first movie and Sharon being Sharon Stone, who will star in anything these days. Ya see, this just sounds like he is taking the piss to see how much a Guttenberg return would spark up in ...

Matt here…

Things have gone quiet over Paul Verhoeven's strange decision to direct The Thomas Crown Affair sequel (which for the quality of the picture, was fully supported by me... just I thought it was beneath him at this stage of his career) likely to be more based on the 1964 Peter Ustinov movie Topkapi than the 1999 Pierce Brosnan picture.

I'm not quite sure what the status of that picture is right now as it's been quiet for a few months and IMDB no longer even list Verhoeven as the director (though I believe he is still involved) but Variety have word on a future, different potential directing project over at Relativity Media.

They say he is in talks to direct an "erotic thriller" from unknown t.v. writer Wendy Miller which will be a Risky Business meets Fatal Attraction kind of movie.

Verhoeven directed possibly the most famous erotic thriller in history with Basic Instinct in the early 90's...

Story centers on a college intern who finds himself trapped in a dangerous affair with the boss’s wife.

Relativity, which picked up the script in May, has fast-tracked the project and is eyeing a first-quarter 2009 start date. Miller is penning a rewrite under Verhoeven’s direction.
