Joel Silver is still banging the drum, trying to make a Sgt. Rock movie work after over 20 years of trying.

And I hate to piss on his cornflakes this morning but this attempt won't be successful either.
The Hollywood Reporter say that Silver is planning to take the character into the future!!!, the kind of move that would usually only happen after two movies when you realise there is no where else to go with the franchise once World War II has ended.
Maybe after so many years of trying, Silver feels like he's seen a Sgt. Rock WWII movie already a thousand times by the amount of unproduced screenplays he has read and he's bored himself of this saga. Aren't we all?

Classic DC comic writers knew the character had no where to
go after the war ended, classically killing him off
with the last bullet of the WW-II conflict.
Silver has hired Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend, Constantine), a current WB "go to guy" when a blockbuster job needs filling, to direct. Previously Silver hoped Guy Ritchie would helm, but he's taken the director to make Lobo instead.

Chad St. John who also wrote a highly original time-travel sci-fi movie which caught the attention of ...

About this time last year, it was announced that Guy Ritchie was to remake the classic World War II movie THE DIRTY DOZEN at Warner Bros and as recently as May, that producer Joel Silver had also benchmarked him to direct an adaptation of the war hero comic book character SGT. ROCK.

Though when Quentin Tarantino finally got his act together at Cannes some weeks later and announced that he would have his World War II epic complete in 12 months, Warner Bros. put on hold both adaptations and gave SHERLOCK HOLMES to Ritchie as it was further in development and didn't want to slug it out with Quentin.

Dark Castle producer Susan Downey updates the status of both projects to Coming Soon...
"Those two projects specifically, they still need more work in development...I know that Guy, he still has passion for them, but his focus right now is on this. I do believe that if there was a universe where he could be doing them all right now. He would want to, and we haven't jumped off him and looked for other people yet either. I'm not exactly sure what we're going to do, because we love those projects but they have ...

Joel Silver will be a very unhappy movie producer this morning looking over the financial woe that has been the opening weekend of Speed Racer but it's far from his first flop and he will continue with more and more ambitious projects, we can be assured of that.

One of which is Sgt. Rock, the much talked about adaptation of the DC Comic Book character which like many of the companies heroes have floated in a non-existent vortex for too long now.

But with the death of the under-cooked Justice League film, some of the other projects may be re-heated into production and served to us soon. Silver tells AICN that he "thinks" he will be making Sgt. Rock with Guy Ritchie soon, though his next response sounded like it shouldn't have said anything...
I hope so. Yeah, um, but, um, I remember at one point it got close. I mean, there were a lot of people attached to SPEED RACER over the years. Um, no real actors. They never got that close.

Ritchie has just completed his latest work - the British gangster movie Rock"N"Rolla starring Gerard Butler, Thandie Newton, Tom Wilkinson and the upcoming Bond girl Gemma Arteton due out in September...
So, ...
