Didn't that DARK CITY-esque trailer for the most exciting British sci-fi film since maybe forever, just totally rock your socks off?

FRANKLYN finally looks like a British film with a pulse. It has a desire to think big and aim to deliver a movie that in size is matching with the biggest Hollywood has to produce but also the has the creative ambition to try something different. To not compromise, to make something that won't necessarily hit the biggest audience but will if it's as good as say DONNIE DARKO... it's word of mouth will carry it to a nice profit.

Our friends at BadTaste have sent us a first look at the official poster for the upcoming movie...

Just a minor annoyance but couldn't it have said SAM RILEY, RYAN PHILLIPE, EVA GREEN... just to match the order the actors are pictured.

First time Brit writer/director Gerald McMorrow makes his directorial debut. Poster and title could have been better in retrospect but man, that trailer rocks...

The movie opens in the U.K. on February 20th but has yet to find a distributor in the U.S.
WHICH IS JUST CRAZY!

The casting is all but complete for 13, the Hollywood remake of a much liked psychological French noir thriller 13 TZAMETI which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival a few years.

Variety say Ray Liotta, Mickey Rourke, Ray Winstone, Jason Statham, Sam Riley and er, 50 Cent will star.

Riley ("Control") plays the title character, a young man who stumbles into an underground competition where the wealthy gamble on human beings in a Russian Roulette-like competition.

Rourke... will play a convict in a Mexican prison who is sold into the competition. Winstone... will play a competitor who has been sprung from a mental institution to participate; 50 Cent ("Righteous Kill") will play an employee assigned to escort Rourke's character to the bloody game.

Statham... plays a wealthy British man who bets on the competition and has a peculiar interest in one of the competitors. Liotta... will play a cop on the trail of the illegal game.
Seduced by the bigger budget, the bigger resources and no doubt the bigger wage... Gela Babluani, the writer/director of the original is back on board to do the same task. No word if this version will be black and white also.

I had never seen ...

We have some further developments on the Robin Hood casting story from Friday, AICN are debunking the rumor that Christian Bale has been offered the part.

Also today, Latino Review are running the scoop of a more conventional casting choice for the film. Someone that actually looks like the image of Robin Hood you probably have in your head.

They say Russell Crowe himself has pitched the idea to Universal and Ridley Scott for them to cast actor Sam Riley, who portrayed Ian Curtis in the much praised biopic of the Joy Division frontman titled Control. It appears Crowe was a big fan of the film and is basing the whole casting choice from that performance alone, which I guess we have to also as Riley hasn't been in much else.

The site claim this source is from a very trusted mole, who has given them some great scoops in the past, including the casting of Jake Gyllenhaal for the Prince of Persia adaptation.

Certainly a more conventional casting choice and I do very much like the idea of a non-star for the part but this guy looks too innocent to me. He looks like someone who carries a great vulnerability on his shoulder ...
