The subject for Danny Boyle's first post-Oscar movie will be the extraordinary depths of the human spirit as Variety say he will next film climber Aron Ralston's story, a young guy who made the headlines in 2003 when he cut off his own arm to survive after six days of being trapped under an 800 pound boulder during a lone hike in Utah. His weapon of choice; a large swiss army knife!!

Ralston, with one arm left and the other broken, after nearly a week without food, with barely any water or sleep... then had to rappel down a 65-foot sheer wall and hike out of the canyon in the hot midday sun to safety.

Boyle teams with Fox Searchlight, and the movie will be titled 127 Hours. In what will surely be a great platform for a young actor to grab the opportunity of a lifetime to win an Oscar, Boyle is said to have challenged Ryan Gosling to take the part. Gosling is 28, Ralston was 27 during the ordeal. What an opportunity for Gosling, Oscar nominated for Half Nelson in 2007 and who has had a tough time in Hollywood since, a high profile firing on the set of ...

It got a release date this week, so we know that GREEN LANTERN, the next superhero to get the big money roll of the dice from Warner Bros. is less than 22 months away from hitting our screens.

So WB. need to decide soon who will wear the green of Hal Jordan but according to Latino Review, the studio have so far found that task very difficult.

They say THE NOTEBOOK star Ryan Gosling (who LR have mentioned before in conjuction with this role) has turned the movie down, as has INTO THE WILD and SPEED RACER's Emile Hirsch.

Sam Worthington, who seems to be a name who always crops up these days with blockbuster gigs, turned it down because he's busy working on CLASH OF THE TITANS at the same studio.

So they are having to delve a little deeper to find their man and the word is, Russian born actor Anton Yelchin, who isn't 20 till March is who they are going to approach.

You may not know his name but once I tell you he's playing Chekov in STAR TREK and is playing Kyle Reese in TERMINATOR SALVATION, by the end of May he is certainly going to be geek radar's everywhere.

You ...

Looks truly like Warner Bros. have given up the ghost on GREEN LANTERN being black, all the rumors suggest the movie will revolve around Hal Jordan rather than John Stewart.

Latino Review say their biggest WB source has given them the exclusive scoop that Ryan Gosling is being eyed for the role as their first choice.

Gosling, 28 next month, is the perfect age for Greg Berlanti's script where the character is said to be aged 27.

Academy Award nominated for his role in HALF NELSON two years ago, Gosling certainly has great acting chops and is closer to WB/DC's casting of a great physical actor like Christian Bale than an unknown like Brandon Routh.

Hunt out LARS AND THE REAL GIRL and you will believe he is more than just a pretty face. This guy is good... though to play Lantern he will need to drop some of the brooding and notch up the charisma a few paces.

Last we heard this will be filming in the Spring, so hopefully we will get official casting within six weeks.

Variety report that Ryan Gosling and Lars and the Real Girl director Craig Gillespie are to work together again for The Dallas Buyers Club, a Universal and Strike Entertainment factual drama which has recently become a high priority for the studio's.

"Dallas Buyers Club" is the true story of Ron Woodroof, a tough Texas electrician who was diagnosed with AIDS in 1986 and given six months to live. Frustrated with the lack of available medical options and unwilling to accept a death sentence, Woodroof found a lifeline using alternative drugs and created a lucrative smuggling business that made those drugs available to AIDS patients. Woodroof died in 1992.
Chase Palmer, the writer/director of the upcoming Hitchcock biographical drama The Number 13 is currently polishing the script.

Originally the project was setup by the same producers over at Universal in 2002 for director Marc Forster and star Brad Pitt but Pitt's a busy actor and it never got made.

Project sounds like some great dramatic material to work with here... could be the next Into the Wild with a sweeping true story of an man's epic journey but instead of it with being with nature, it's in his battle to survive. Should be a tearjerker ...

If these talks go as planned then I think we have seen the last Sam Raimi directed Spider-Man movie, something as both a Raimi fan and a Spidey fan is something I hoped would happen.

At the very least, Raimi won't be able to do Spider-Man 4.

Here's the exciting news from Variety...
Paramount Pictures is in negotiations with Sam Raimi to spearhead a franchise revival of Jack Ryan, the Tom Clancy-created CIA analyst character who drove four hit movies for the studio.

Par will draft a scribe to write a Ryan movie that Raimi would shoot after he completes the Universal horror film "Drag Me to Hell." Paramount wants the Ryan movie ready for release in summer 2010.
The idea is for Raimi to develop and direct a new trilogy of films for producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura which will feature a younger and more formative Jack Ryan. This revival is likely to be a franchise REBOOT and will probably be set in the modern world of terrorism (hang on... wasn't the modern day reboot The Sum of All Fears?) and will probably be influenced by Matt Damon's Bourne trilogy.

A younger Jack Ryan was rumored in January when Ryan Gosling's was talked about to fill ...

Review by Michael Edwards

Taking as its premise a socially-challenged introvert, living in the garage of his old family home, who decides to purchase doll from the internet and acts as if it's his real girlfriend, Lars and the Real Girl could potentially have gone down two formulaic routes:

1. The kind of template crazy comedy that draws now meaningless accolades such as 'uproariously funny' and 'outrageously hilarious - a hoot from start to finish' from the usual rent-a-quotes, or

2. The kind of overly contrived kooky, quirky and off-the-wall indie-film that tries to hard to embed meaning in its own zaniness. If I had to choose I'd prefer the latter, but the writers and filmmakers have managed to take this movie down a much more subtle and surprising road, and I'm very glad they did.

If it has to be pigeon-holed, which it really doesn't, I'd almost call this movie a twisted rom-com mixed in with liberal doses of family drama and small town Americana. Lars (Ryan Gosling), the key figure and eponymous ...

Love stories live and die by their casting. THE NOTEBOOK excelled with a lightening chemistry between Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams which was so on the nose that the pair even went on to have a relationship.

That's the kind of inspirational casting you need. You can transport mediocre material into stunning material, and stunning material into perfection. Will this duo have the chemistry for us to care about their plight here? I'm not sure.

Variety say that Ryan Gosling has signed on to star in ALL GOOD THINGS, a 80's period love story/murder mystery setup at Groundswell Productions from first time feature director Andrew Jarecki. Kirsten Dunst is in talks for the female part...

The movie follows Gosling as guy on the fringe of inheriting a New York real estate dynasty when he falls for Dunst, the girl "from the wrong side of the tracks" who disappears and so begins a washed up detective's investigation which quickly turns into a deadly political game.

Filming is to begin in April on the East Coast. Gosling I think is on his way to becoming one of the most interesting young actors that we have and his last four performances you could put up against anyone ...

Ben Affleck's attempt at resurrecting the Jack Ryan franchise six years ago with THE SUM OF ALL FEARS was a commendable effort. I quite enjoyed it as a thriller, even if it wasn't a patch on the Harrison Ford movies that went before it, or the John McTiernan directed THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER with Alec Baldwin in the lead role.

It's rather surprising it has taken this long for movement on the next installment of the franchise which ten years ago was seen as the America version of James Bond, something that I guess the BOURNE series is today. Reports today say that Ryan Gosling will now carry the franchise with a shocker being that Tom Clancy won't be involved...

That's right, the word from Moviehole is that the new film won't be based on any of Clancy's writings and it will instead be a brand new 'made for film' story depicting a young Jack Ryan, similar to how Ben Affleck portrayed him. It will have no connection what-so-ever to any previous Jack Ryan canon.

The site also speculate (and it seems to make sense) that a script picked up by Paramount in 2005 titled BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY (there's a Clancy ...
