The killer stalking his prey, about to aggressively plunge his big sharp knife from sky high depths into a fallen, blonde victim.

It's a classic horror genre image and it's proven to be effective for Dimension Films in plugging Halloween 2, the second of Rob Zombie's personal dissections of psycho killer Michael Myers and the revenge he takes upon his family. Thanks to Bloody Disgusting for the heads-up!

I like the poster, its straight to the point, it doesn't pretentiously show us that really Mike Myers has a tortured human soul beneath it all, and that the boogeyman was really just a nice boy who was brought up in a bad family. We don't need to see that and let's hope Zombie has kept down the flashbacks to an absolute minimum because "Myers: The Younger Days", were easily the worst parts of his Halloween.

A fast paced, genre fulfilling slasher movie with plenty of inventive kills, a terrifying portrayal of Myers and smart/interesting young characters is all I need for satisfaction here, to feel like I got my money's worth. I don't ask for much when it comes to slasher movies but most these days can't even the basic fundamentals.

Oh and I gotta mention, ...

If only Rob Zombie listened to us in the first place. Ya know and I said it in the whole build up to his remake two years ago, I really believe Zombie could have made the best movie set around the HALLOWEEN slasher premise since the original John Carpenter movie in 1978.

Free from the expectations and shackles of a great master, he had the talent to make a suspenseful and scary flick, one that reinvented the character and didn't have to worry about whether it was a remake, sequel or reboot. It just needed to be a good HALLOWEEN story with new characters, where the character of Myers was already established.

And only now, he's beginning to realise it. He spoke to IGN this week...
"I just realized that the great thing about doing this one is, with the last one there was some sense of retaining some John Carpenter-ness about it all," he explains. "And now it didn't matter. This movie is 100 percent whatever I want to do. And we never discussed Halloween or Michael Myers or anything. In fact, every time we do something we go, 'This doesn't seem [like Halloween].' We can do whatever we want and it's very freeing. And I think ...

Before Margot Kidder immortalised sassy journalist Lois Lane into cinematic popular culture in SUPERMAN in 1978, she had already established herself as a bit of an up and coming horror icon.

Roles in Brian De Palma's SISTERS and the incredibly creepy BLACK CHRISTMAS were her calling before Lane, and even after being in one of the biggest movies of all time she wasn't ready to give the genre up... starring in THE AMITYVILLE HORROR just a year after SUPERMAN.

And it's with some delight today I can report from Shock Till You Drop that she is returning to the genre to play Laurie Strode's therapist Barbara Collier, in Rob Zombie's sequel to his HALLOWEEN remake.

Zombie may have also let it slip on his blog the new title for the movie which seems to be H2: THE DEVIL WALKS AMONG US. All references to the title have since been removed from his blog, so he probably let it out of the bag too quickly.

Well it sounds better than H2... but HALLOWEEN 2 would have been just fine for me instead of adding on a STV sounding subtitle.

The movie is currently shooting in Georgia, aiming for an August release. Nice to see Kidder back in ...

Shock Till You Drop carry the first image of Tyler Mane, the actor behind the Michael Myers mask in H2, Rob Zombie's sequel to HALLOWEEN.

He's grown a beard. Presumably Michael Myers hasn't shaved since his last killing spree.

Dr. Loomis (played by the returning Malcolm McDowell) has a book out...

In other H2 news, Daeg Faerch, that creepy looking kid who played the young Michael Myers in the first movie has revealed on his Myspace page that he has grown up too much in the two years since HALLOWEEN was filmed and he was let go during filming in Georgia.
"SADLY, although I was contracted to reprise the role of young Michael Myers in the upcoming H2 (Halloween 2, 2009) after filming briefly on the set in GA, I am to be recast due to my increased height,"
They shot this scene involving young Michael and his mother Deborah Myers (played by Sheri Moon Zombie) which will now be cut from the final completed film. His replacement has yet to be announced but hopefully they won't bother and Zombie will cut out the flashbacks, we don't need Michael's backstory fleshing out any further do we?

Danielle Harris, the child star of HALLOWEEN 4 and one of the key players of ROB ZOMBIE'S HALLOWEEN has officially signed on for a return in H2.

Hopefully, because as well as being uber hot she seems pretty talented, let's hope Annie Brackett doesn't bite the dust early...

The great character actor Daniel Roebuck has also signed on for a return as Lou Martini.

No official confirmation yet on Scout Taylor-Compton (she played Laurie Strode in the remake), Malcolm MacDonald, Daeg Ferch or Sheri Moon Zombie, though Bloody Disgusting and indeed myself expect them all to return.

H2 opens August 28th 2009 once again directed by Rob Zombie and begins filming very soon.

On Dec. 15th, Rob Zombie was quoted in Variety discussing the release date of his HALLOWEEN sequel, titled H2...
"Now, we'll be hauling ass, and that's the problem making a movie called 'Halloween': If you come out Nov. 1 or after, nobody cares. If it was called anything else, I'd be fine."
Which excuse me for being ignorant, I thought hinted that Zombie wanted to rectify the mistake he made in 2007 when he released HALLOWEEN in August instead of October; the holiday the movie revolves around. It's a change that just seemed to make sense all round.

But according to Shock Till You Drop, Zombie intends to release H2 in August once again, this time on August 28th 2009. The Weinsteins once again don't fancy fighting the SAW franchise over October.

Also revealed over the weekend was the mask Tyler Mane will once again be wearing...

Says Rob Zombie on his blog...
"If you thought Michael was fucked before, you ain't seen nothing yet! He is bigger, meaner and more psycho than Dr. Loomis ever thought possible,"
Shooting begins in March and five months later the movie will be in theatres. But as Zombie says, presumably no-one cares.

You know as bad as ROB ZOMBIE'S HALLOWEEN was, outside of John Carpenter he delivered a more effective slasher film (i.e. everything that dealt with the shape) than any of the countless sequels over the past three decades.

So I'm not going to rip him to shreds about helming a sequel. I think he has a good HALLOWEN-esque movie in him and now free from the shackles of Carpenter's vision (which he never had a chance in matching anyway) he might be able to deliver something really good. Though Variety tell me it will be titled H2... which well, can any movie titled that really be good? At least it's coming out in October this time though, that's something at least for a movie about a killer who murders on Halloween night!

Despite claiming he had no interest in directing another HALLOWEEN movie (you may remember he said the same thing about ever doing a remake), Shock Till You Drop are now reporting that Rob Zombie is expected to be announced as the director of HALLOWEEN 2 for Dimension Films this week.

The sequel is expected to film in March (previous reports of January were ambitious) and it's an easy gig for Zombie who has struggled to get his pulp movie TRYANNOSAURAUS REX off the ground...

Last year's remake made $58 million domestic, more than enough for a sequel to be a financial probability but despite the attachment of several other directors (including Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury, directors of INSIDE), The Weinstiens always wanted Zombie to return. It would appear he had been hounded for a year about this project and finally relented and has agreed to return to Haddonfield along with Tyler Mane (the man behind the Shatner mask).

If Zombie does accept the gig in will be the first time in the franchise history that a director has returned for a consecutive movie in the series and only the second time a director has come back to helm Michael Myers again, after ...

Dread Central have heard from a reporter at the 30 Years of Halloween Convention in Pasadena, CA. that producer Malek Akkad announced a January start date for HALLOWEEN 2, a direct sequel to Rob Zombie's remake of the original 1978 John Carpenter classic.

Tyler Mane, the former wrestler who played Michael as "The Shape" has already agreed to return and talks are under-way with several of the actors from the first movie. Rob Zombie though, won't return to direct.

The only rumor so far of who might helm are the duo film-makers Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury who directed the French horror INSIDE and were at one time to direct the HELLRAISER remake.

Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN was a big success for The Weinsteins, grossing $58 million domestically ($78 million worldwide) and it was a shock to everyone they didn't greenlight a sequel immediately last summer.

UPDATED: Actually I was wrong below. The added trailer footage is just as bad as written, BORING!

This movie looks way to Bayified and glossy to be a Friday the 13th picture. Obviously I need a better copy than this to give a full opinion but I hated what I saw here...

END OF UPDATE

You know, I've been very critical of the "lazy" film-making movement in the modern day horror genre that has seen almost all of the significant horror films of the 70's and 80's remade or currently being developed for a remake but in truth, films like Rob Zombie's Halloween and Marcus Nispel's remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre are not without merit.

Be pissed at them all you like... I know I was and still am, but Nispel's Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of the better slasher films of this decade... if that is really saying much. Rob Zombie's Halloween is probably the third best movie in that long running series and actually made the "The Shape" effective like no-one had for YEARS.

Not a patch on the original films yes, but a lot better than the remakes of Asian horror's that are even more frequent right now.

It's just annoying these ...

His latest is Tyrannosaurus Rex whose poster has just sprung onto me via Shock Till You Drop. I know nothing about the movie except that's it's due next August and has a really cool tagline... "51% Motherfucker, 49% Son of a Bitch".

Poster looks like a trashy sci-fi magazine but I like it. See, don't we like tolerate Zombie much better when he is making his own material?

After grossing $78 million at the box office last year and with the continuation of other slasher franchises such as A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th - the news that Halloween 2 is back on comes as no surprise.

Shock Till You Drop say Dimension Films are head hunting Alexander Bustillo and Julien Maury to helm - the French duo who helmed the gore-fest Inside in their native country and until a few months ago were attached to direct the Hellraiser reamke for the same studio before dropping out, are likely to be lensing.

I pretty much made it well known my hatred for the whole idea of a Halloween sequel but I will give Rob Zombie his due... your movie sucked but you did however make the most interesting "The Shape movie" I've seen in the franchise for a long time. What I mean is he ...

Before Rob Zombie decides to direct another schlock 70's trashy homage horror pic, he will take meetings with studio execs and get our blood levels raised high as he flirts with interesting projects that are way too good for him.

I'm pretty convinced his next movie will be some werewolf horror movie, or a sequel to THE DEVIL'S REJECTS or something along those lines but until then we will keep hearing stories like this, which are probably true but I can't see it coming to anything.

From the good folks at Bloody Disgusting...
Are you guys ready for this?! This afternoon we have confirmed 100% that Rob Zombie has been taking meetings with Lionsgate and Nu Image to get behind the director's chair for their upcoming Conan film!
Not gonna happen.

I can't see Nu Image/Millenium giving this gig to the guy who directed HALLOWEEN and HOUSE OF A THOUSAND CORPSES for the biggest picture on their schedule right now, can you?

Zombie's not gonna be directing CONAN anymore than John McTiernan is going to do the direction from jail.
