Richard Donner, director of all four LETHAL WEAPON movies has told L.A. Times that Mel Gibson has passed on the fifth movie which producer Joel Silver has recently put into development at Warner Bros. after being extremely impressed by Shane Black's script.

Donner also believes the project is now dead, because no Gibson means no franchise.

"It's too bad, actually, because Channing Gibson, who wrote the fourth one, and Mike Riva, a designer on three of them, and myself and Derek [Hoffman, an associate at The Donner Company] had an incredibly strong story for the fifth movie. But we weren't given the opportunity and I think maybe I could have convinced Mel to do it. But Warners chose to go with Joel Silver."

"Yes, the project is pretty much dead in the water unless someone had the sense to come to me."
Seems like this was a pack of falling cards for Warner Bros. When they couldn't get Donner involved in some capacity then they probably lost Gibson, their star. No Gibson, means no movie.. with or without Danny Glover.

A real shame if you ask me because I was strangely interested in seeing more adventures of Riggs and Murtaugh, they aren't like some of ...

It's on... Joel Silver is fast tracking LETHAL WEAPON at Warner Bros and has begun talking to potential actors for the first Shane Black scripted movie in the series since the original 1987 Richard Donner directed classic.

STOMP THE YARD lead Columbus Short has told IGN that he has spoken with Silver about the role of Murtaugh's son (Danny Glover's characters son) and mentions both Glover and Mel Gibson in his interview, as if both vets are already on board.

After a good amount of false starts, this new attempt to crack a LETHAL WEAPON return may just be happening and I've been all for it since Shane Black handed in his screenplay, I have complete faith in his ability to write the best possible movie for this franchise.

More so than ROCKY, RAMBO, DIE HARD... I say LETHAL WEAPON has the most chance of working today. It was never about how fit or strong you were, it was about being charismatic and funny, with a smart themed screenplay behind you. Neither Glover, Gibson, Black or hell, even Richard Donner are over the hill, they could all still do this.

Matt here…

Rumors of trouble regarding the production of X-Men Origins: Wolverine have some legit foundation if Variety are to be believed.

They sensationally claim that Richard Donner, the man who directed the first ever Summer blockbuster superhero movie with Superman in 1978 had to fly to the other side of the world to Australia to the defence of director Gavin Hood who 20th Century Fox "almost fired" from their May 2009 tentpole release.

Dickie Donner, who is the husband of producer Lauren Shuler Donner... looks to have kept Hood in a job after Fox had two backup directors ready to take over. Ironically, this is the terrible fate that happened to Donner himself which ended up being the tragic situation on Superman II where he left the project before it's completion.

The conflict regarding Wolverine is said to be over the tone of the film, Hood's take on the character being much like Frank Miller's dark and viscious version. Instead Fox, wanting to appease a wider audience initially demaned a kiddie friendly cut.

The end result we won't know till May but either the studio or Hood must have backed down in their demands.

Of course this isn't the first time we have heard of ...

Bruce Willis is Jack Mosley, an aged cop sitting on retirement in 16 BLOCKS. He's not concerned about catching criminals, he just wants to get through each working day, usually with help of a bottle or two until he can grab his pension.

After a typical rough day, Jack is ready to go home so he can drink some more in front of the t.v. when his boss assigns him to transport a witness 16 blocks to his personal hearing which he has to make conveniently for the film's length, in two hours or the jury's term expires.

That witness is Eddie Bunker, who Mos Def strangely plays with one of the most annoying voices in the history of film. He talks and talks and talks about how he has been mistreated and that he's not really a criminal with vocals worse than hearing a baby constantly cry for two hours. It's a brave choice from Def, who puts on this voice for the character and I think it actually works when all logic would say it's a dumb idea. It gives him a nice characteristic and helps carve out his character, but I know for a lot of people it may ...
