The definition of a bad movie poster for W

The strangest poster for a movie I think I’ve ever seen in my life has turned up at ION Cinema for the George Dub-Ya Bush biopic.

You can see the suppose to be hilarious poster from Cannes below which features several of the most idiotic remakes Bush has made during his seven years in power…

news_3037_user_16546.jpg

Far more effective I feel is the cover image of EW in getting over the feel for the film which will more Charlie Wilson’s War mixed with Dr. Strangelove than the usual Stone drama.

In related news, Variety report that Jesse Bradford (Flags of our Fathers) has joined the cast as W’s college roommate, presumably for some kind of flashback sequence of Bush during his younger days.

I know I keep saying it but there is something very malicious behind Oliver Stone’s movie, an anger that has made him direct this film next rather than out of something meaningful he had to tell. This is an attack movie - nothing more, nothing less.

A bloody good poster for KILL BILL!

I don’t know how an Auckland local t.v. company got permission to decorate a movie’s marketing outside of the realm of the banner (maybe they just didn’t and did it anyway?) but this is one eye catching poster that is pretty darn cool.

And before you ask, of course those will be prop cars. Doesn’t it just suit the film beautifully?

Al Gore was right - DISASTER MOVIE poster!

Well there ain’t no way in hell I’m seeing a spoof of the ‘end of the world’ scenario with Disaster Movie but I have to admit this poster made me chuckle.

Nice imagery on the poster which manages to evoke both The Day After Tomorrow and maybe even Cloverfield with one of the best taglines of the year… “Al Gore Was Right”.

disastermovie2.jpg

Carmen Electra & Kim Kardashian seem to be the top billing on this one. Oh dear. And it goes without saying it’s from the same team as Date Movie, Epic Movie & Meet the Spartans.

Look for it at the end of August but I’m predicting a disaster.

THE EDGE OF LOVE poster

This year’s World War II set heartbreaking love story starring Keira Knightley and a young British actor (this time Cillian Murphy) gets a release on June 27th in the U.K.

Sienna Miller is in this one too, which comes from the director of The Jacket. It’s titled The Edge of Love and you may remember I dissed the trailer earlier this month when it looked exactly the same as Atonement - a movie that I’m still shocked was so well received.

edge_of_love.jpg

The film tells the story of two free-spirited women, Vera Phillips (Keira Knightley) and Caitlin MacNamara (Sienna Miller), who both fall for the charismatic Welsh poet Dylan Thomas (Matthew Rhys). Despite their love-rival status, the women strike up a friendship as bombs rain down over London during the Second World War.

Can Keira work her seductive magic on critics once again, this time with an equally dolled up Sienna Miller giving her a hand?

Naked WITCHBLADE teaser poster!

Despite the film only being announced a couple of weeks ago and with no cast yet leaked, for some reason we already have an official teaser poster for Witchblade.

The movie is an adaptation of the Top Cow comic which centers on an ornate jewel-encrusted gauntlet that gives extraordinary powers to the wearer, a specially chosen female from each generation.

Why is a model naked on the poster - or is that an unknown actress who will lead the film?

Has Witchblade turned into some sci-fi porn flick? Weird…

CHOKE poster!

Choke - only the second movie adaptation of a Chuck Palahniuk novel (the first being Fight Club) is expected to get a theatrical release in September after impressing Fox Searchlight enough at the Sundance Film Festival to get a distribution deal.

Here’s our first look at the movie’s poster. I haven’t read much Palahniuk but this poster certainly carrys the imagery of the covers of his novels. I like it…

ddchokeposter.jpg

Sam Rockwell leads as a sex-addicted con-man who pays for his mother’s (Angelica Huston) hospital bills by playing on the sympathies of those who save him from (intentionally) choking to death. Kelly MacDonald also co-stars.

Comparing the movie to Fight Club is likely to only ever lead to unfavourable reviews for Choke and it would certainly be unfair for actor turned writer/director Clark Gregg who makes his directorial debut here.

Though comparisons to Fight Club might be difficult to avoid…

Two new International posters for HELLBOY II

BadTaste.it sent us word of two new International Posters for the Hellboy sequel due out in the U.S. on July 11th.

The first shows Luke Goss as Prince Nuada and the second is of Doug Jones as the Angel of Death, looking not to disimilar to some of the creatures he played in Pan’s Labyrinth - the last movie from Mexican genius Guillermo del Toro.

Teaser poster for BAD LIEUTENANT

From Cannes where the remake of the Harvey Keitel thriller Bad Lieutenant, believed by me to be the first Hollywood and English language film from the 90’s to ever be remade (let’s hope it does not start a trend) and shockingly by the master that is Werner Herzog - comes our first teaser poster.

The film will star Nicolas Cage as a corrupt New York City police detective Terence McDonough investigated the drug-related murder of five Senegalese illegal immigrants. It’s Cage third remake in a short period after The Wicker Man and the upcoming Bangkok Dangerous.

The script comes from frequent t.v. scribe William M. Finkelstein (Law & Order, Murder One).

badltcannes.jpg

It’s a very early teaser poster, only churned out to try and win some buyers for the film at Cannes but having said that we have to review only on what it looks like - and that’s a STV thriller.

This will be Herzog’s next movie after the quite magnificent Rescue Dawn and it should be out next year.

Joker poster for THE DARK KNIGHT

Add this one to the “good” pile for the one-sheets of The Dark Knight.

It’s a BOF exclusive and is pretty darn good…

joker-banner.jpg

As if you need reminding but The Dark Knight - the much anticipated sequel to Batman Begins opens July 18th (U.S) and shockingly one week later in the U.K.

Are they trying their best to torture us?
