Here's three very different images from Phillip Noyce's (CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER, THE BONE COLLECTOR) upcoming thriller SALT, starring Angelina Jolie... which severely needs a name change, I'd say. Who thinks a summer action vehicle called SALT can surpass $100 million?

Anyway, you may remember this project was previously setup as a Tom Cruise starring vehicle for HANCOCK director Peter Berg but once Jolie became available, Columbia dropped Cruise and lodged Jolie in.

And two further photo's of the character wearing wigs which hints at an ALIAS esque picture...

The film tells the story of a CIA officer who is outed as a Russian sleeper spy, and must evade capture by those who are convinced she’s aiming to assassinate the president.

Liev Schreiber plays Winter, her ally in the Russian C.I.A. office and CHILDREN OF MEN'S Chiwetel Ejiofor plays Peabody, who I guess is the villain as a counterintelligence officer who tries to take her down.

SALT is currently shooting in New York and Washington and should be out next Summer.

The classic 1935 Best Picture Academy Award nominated swashbuckler CAPTAIN BLOOD, a rip roaring seafaring adventure film that made stars out of Errol Flynn, Basil Rathbone and Olivia De Havilland has moved closer to a remake at Warner Bros.

Variety say the studio have hired John Brownlow, the writer of Gwyneth Paltrow's 2003 biopic SLYVIA to scribe with Phillip Noyce (CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER, CATCH A FIRE) still eyeing the project as a directing vehicle.

The original followed Flynn as a doctor wrongly sentenced to slavery in the Caribbean, where he and his comrades become avenging pirates. Michael Curtiz directed the movie and would soon make the legendary ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD with Flynn.

Here's hoping Noyce makes a "dirty" pirate movie without the thrills, you certainly can't match any of those Flynn movies for pure escapism. I'm not so pissed at this remake, most cinema goers won't be aware of this film and as a huge Pirate movie junkie, I'm just happy to see that PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN isn't all I'm going to be fed right now.

Soon after Tom Cruise ended his interested in starring in the C.I.A. espionage thriller Edwin A. Salt, a number of high profile Hollywood actors were said to be interested in what is described as an A+++ script from writer Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium, The Recruit).

I remember the name of Will Smith quite strongly.

But once Angelina Jolie got her hands on the script and loved it, Columbia Pictures couldn't help but think of a sexier adaptation, a one led by a rare and credible female action star who helped Wanted earn $128 million domestic. Wimmer is currently re-drafting his script, to accommodate Jolie as a female lead.

Phillip Noyce who worked with Jolie on the 1999 crime thriller The Bone Collector but is more famous for directing the first two Jack Ryan pics with Harrison Ford, is still attached as director.

The movie revolves around a CIA officer who's accused by of being a Russian sleeper spy, and is on the run, attempting to prove her innocence.

Obviously a new title is in need, the project is no longer about a guy named Edwin A. Salt. It's expected this movie will mark Jolie's return to film after giving birth to twins

73 years ago, before any Obsessed With Film reader was likely to have been born (do we have any over 70's reading... that would be cool!) an adventure movie quite unlike any other was released in theatres.

It was promoted as thus...
THE MOST MAGNIFICENT & THRILLING SEA ADVENTURE EVER FILMED!
The movie was the awesome titled Captain Blood, the first movie made by the trio Errol Flynn, Basil Rathbone and director Michael Curtiz, and one of the greatest adventure films of the 20th century.

That was of course three years before the trio made The Adventures of Robin Hood, the ABSOLUTE greatest adventure movie of the 20th century!
Anyway, in this remake obsessed land, the word out of Variety is that veteran filmmaker Phillip Noyce (Catch a Fire, Clear and Present Danger, The Bone Collector, The Saint, Patriot Games, Dead Calm) is adapting a remake with a view to direct at Warner Bros.
That's all we know right now, except that it's been setup as a potential U.K/Australia production.
Nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards, Errol Flynn in one of the most impressive leading role debuts in film history, starred as a doctor wrongly sentenced to slavery in the Caribbean, where he and his ...

Phillip Noyce has become the third director attached to the C.I.A. thriller Edwin A. Salt, a movie that Tom Cruise is STILL attached too despite two previous attempts at making the film coming undone.

Noyce will be hoping to succeed where Peter Berg (who tried to rush the project through during the WGA strike) and Terry George failed.

The drama casts Cruise as a CIA officer who's accused by a defector of being a Russian sleeper spy. He must elude capture long enough to clear his name.
Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium, The Recruit) wrote the screenplay and I've gotta say, Noyce is the most suited man for this project over the two previous mentioned. He has some real credentials in this genre having directed Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger with Harrison Ford in the 90's.

The film is setup at Columbia and once again it has to deal with potential strike problems as to whether it could shoot this summer or not. This could be a nice straight forward thriller to get Cruise back on track.

From the outside looking in, I would guess that Tom Cruise and his closest pals and advises have been discussing over the last few weeks and aggressively pursuing what his next project could be.

We've heard much about the potential Ben Stiller comedy, another Mission Impossible yarn, we've heard this and that but this one seems to be a real leading contender.

The movie is The 28th Amendment and if talks go well it will see him play the U.S. President that discovers his country is actually being controlled by a Denzel Washington led super secret organization who kills everyone that gets in their way!

It will be directed by Aussie director Phillip Noyce (who helmed Washington in the late 90's thriller The Bone Collector) and will mark the first on screen pairing of Cruise and Denzel...

Ironically, Cruise has been advised to play a U.S. President when he himself is probably at the lowest point of his public relations image.

The only bad news I guess about the project is that it comes from Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci who are spreading their seed everywhere right now but to give the devils their due, I loved what they did with Mission Impossible III for ...

Australian film-maker Phillip Noyce is in talks to direct The Art of Money according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Dreamworks project centers on Art Williams, the alias of a notorious counterfeiter who printed more than $10 million in fake dollar bills using original and cutting-edge techniques and wasn't even fazed into stopping when he had been caught and warned by the F.B.I.

Newcomer Frank Baldwin will adapt the screenplay based on Jason Kersten's 2005 profile of the thief in Rolling Stones magazine. A book adaptation is also expected.

Noyce - probably best known for his two "Jack Ryan" flicks with Harrison Ford (Clear and Present Danger and Patriot Games), last helmed the 2006 Tim Robbins terrorism movie Catch a Fire. He will soon begin working on his next feature, a biopic of Mary Queen of Scots which perplexy has American Scarlett Johansson who looks nothing like the Scottish Queen - to star.

That movie should be out before the end of the year.

Ben Affleck's attempt at resurrecting the Jack Ryan franchise six years ago with THE SUM OF ALL FEARS was a commendable effort. I quite enjoyed it as a thriller, even if it wasn't a patch on the Harrison Ford movies that went before it, or the John McTiernan directed THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER with Alec Baldwin in the lead role.

It's rather surprising it has taken this long for movement on the next installment of the franchise which ten years ago was seen as the America version of James Bond, something that I guess the BOURNE series is today. Reports today say that Ryan Gosling will now carry the franchise with a shocker being that Tom Clancy won't be involved...

That's right, the word from Moviehole is that the new film won't be based on any of Clancy's writings and it will instead be a brand new 'made for film' story depicting a young Jack Ryan, similar to how Ben Affleck portrayed him. It will have no connection what-so-ever to any previous Jack Ryan canon.

The site also speculate (and it seems to make sense) that a script picked up by Paramount in 2005 titled BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY (there's a Clancy ...
