Sony Pictures and Lakeshore Entertainment seem disinterested in running "For Your Consideration" ads for ELEGY, which is a huge shame because Ben Kingsley and Penelope Cruz gave some of the best performances of their career in that movie, really strong efforts which shouldn't be overlooked.

ELEGY is probably in my top three movies of the year, I really adored this movie. I wish it was getting more buzz...

Dennis Hopper too may be in with a shout at Best Supporting Actor. You can read my original review of the movie HERE.

Academy Awards Process as detailed by Awards Daily…

Friday, December 26, 2008: Nominations ballots mailed
Monday, January 12, 2009: Nominations polls close 5 p.m. Pacific Time
Thursday, January 22, 2009: Nominations announced 5:30 a.m. PT, Samuel Goldwyn Theater

Four Your Consideration is Matt's new feature attempting to showcase the movies and performances he has enjoyed this year and he believes is worthy of Academy Award nomination. Previously he mentioned Josh Brolin in W. and Heath Ledger in THE DARK KNIGHT.

The Weinsteins have sent out a press release across the web celebrating the fact that Rob Marshall's (CHICAGO) massive ensemble musical NINE has finally begun filming after many delays.

They have also released a press shot from the filming which just reminds us what an amazing and beautiful cast they have put together for this movie which is a remake of Fellini's 8 1/2... the story of a world famous director who struggle to prepare his latest picture while balancing the women in his life (wife, mistress, movie star muse, costume designer, fashion journalist, whore from childhood and his mother!).

Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Marillon Cotillard, Stacy "Fergie" Ferguson and Kate Hudson... who would say no to being locked in a room with those beauties? Also in the image are Judi Dench and Sophia Loren! What a cast of acting heavyweights

Not pictured but making up the nine, is two time Academy Award winner Daniel Day-Lewis in his first movie post-THERE WILL BE BLOOD. He plays the director!

Thankfully, we haven't had to wait years to see him work again like we did when he won the same award for GANGS OF NEW YORK.

The film is being shot in England at Shepperton Studios, and ...

Matt here and delighted to tell you that Woody Allen has finally secured a British release date for VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA. Though it won't be till February... you could probably get the Region 1 DVD imported by then! Oh well!

This was in my top five anticipated movies of 2008 and it's so cool to read that Oliver believes the movie gets Allen back to his MATCH POINT best...

It pleases me to report that Woody Allen's lastest film VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA is a warm, welcome return to comedic form that sees the director revived by an exotic fresh new location, a talented cast of recently accomplished actors, gorgeous sun-drenched aesthetics (courtesy of Pedro Almodovar's regular DP Javier Aguirresarobe) and a script that is probably Allen's best written work in 20 years.

BARCELONA concerns two young American women taking vacation in the romantic resides of the titular Spanish haunt. Vicky (Rebecca Hall) is a head-strong conservative type who is a grad student and is set to marry the idealistic man of her dreams, while Cristina (Scarlett Johansson) is a sexually adventurous aspiring short-filmmaker who likes to experience life on the edge.

The two girls meet Spanish charmer Juan Antonio (Javier Bardem), an impressionable painter ...

was so annoyed with myself last week, so God damn annoyed when I missed the opportunity to see the Penelope Cruz/Ben Kingsley drama Elegy, Isabel Coixet's (The Secret Life of Words) drama based on the classic Phillip Roth novel "The Dying Animal".

I adored the trailer, I really enjoy what should be sleazy tales of an older man going off with a younger women, which when done right can capture you and really hit that romantic side of your heart and become a believable love story between two souls.

In what to be looks an absolute Best Leading Role Academy Award nom, Ben Kingsley plays a very handsome and physically fit 60 year old teacher who late in life finds a real connection with a beautiful women who just happens to be a young student he teaches.

The astoundingly beautiful Penelope Cruz plays the young student.

It's currently out now on limited release but shockingly, I'm struggling to find a theatre near me showing it in this hectic blockbuster season.

On Charlie Rose last week, Cruz and one of the supporting actors from the movie Dennis Hopper and the film's director Isabel Coixet's spoke at length about the movie is a real interesting watch, very ...

Ben Kingsley is a great leading actor and I'm so happy to see him topline the upcoming drama Elegy, based on Phillip Roth's novel The Dying Animal. Kingsley is so much more than the guy who cameo's in The Love Guru or even the upcoming Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.

Here he plays a 60+ teacher who late in life finds a real connection with a beautiful women who just happens to be a young student (Cruz) he teaches.

Could it be love?

Dennis Hopper (as his advising friend), Patricia Clarkson (as the woman he has been seeing closer to his age) and Peter Sarsgaard co-star.

It's nothing we haven't seen from Cruz before where she is the object of a man falling deeply in love with her free spirit but it's Kingsley who makes this guy a real character that we can get invested in and not some old pervert.

See it in quality HD HERE
The film gets a theatrical run from August 8th in both the U.K. and U.S. Isabel Coixet (My Life Without Me) directed it.

Matt here... Eugenio is currently out enjoying the Sun in Cannes and has been sending us some of his thoughts from the festival. First off, he got to see Woody Allen's latest movie Vicky Cristina Barcelona and sent us this very early review which you can read after the image...

Not surprisingly, Woody Allen decided to open his new film out of competition here at Cannes - the director hates attending and receiving
prizes. But the film was nevertheless very well received here at the festival and it is undoubtedly his most crowd pleasing and accessible film
for years.

A story of two girls finding love and questioning their own approach to life, "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" follows closely the template of Allen's recent Melinda and Melinda in examining and contrasting the different psychologies of two women. Its mix of tragedy and comedy, and a very heavy use of voiceovers, is also very reminiscent of the 2004 film.

Both Vicky (Rebecca Hall) and Cristina (Scarlett Johansson) travel to Barcelona for some change from their New York setting and are soon involved with passionate artist Juan Antonio (Javier Bardem) who can't forget the tempestuos marriage he had with fellow artist Maria Helena (Penelope Cruz). The usual exchange ...

So Woody Allen ditches London, his "home away from home" for the first time in a few years and flies off to explore another part of Europe with Vicky Cristina Barcelona - a love quadruple flick (there's four people, so it can't be a triangle) that will debut at Cannes next week.

The movie stars Academy Award Winner Javier Bardem - no longer with that creepy hairstyle from No Country For Old Men and now very much back to his charming ways as he gets to bed not only Rebecca Hall - not only Penelope Cruz but Scarlett Johansson to.

And the word is - and the trailer certainly hints as much - that there's a passionate three way between Johansson, Cruz and Bardem. Oh yes, that's something I've dreamed off many nights - those two lovely ladies have been my number 1 and number 2 obsessions ever since Open Your Eyes and Ghost World.

The plot - as if you care at this point is that Bardem is a painter who enters a relationship with two American tourists (Hall & Johansson) which makes his ex-girlfriend jealous (Cruz). It's a Woody Allen movie which recently has meant tempers flare and not everyone ...

Nicole Kidman's rare performance where I thought she was absolutely sensational was Baz Luhrmann's movie Moulin Rouge and according to The Hollywood Reporter she will be looking to replicate that kind of success for Nine, Rob Marshall's adaptation of the Tony-Award winning musical based upon the famous Fellini movie 8 1/2.

The trades say Kidman and British vet Judi Dench are in final talks to join the movie which is slated for a September start. Originally it was due to film in March but with the WGA strike and the failing health of the now late Anthony Minghella (he was doing re-drafts late last year) that became impossible and it had to be pushed back.
Javier Bardem leads the film as a film director who must juggle the lives of various women in his busy and stressful life. Penelope Cruz, Marillon Cotillard and Sophia Loren will play three of the women and if Kidman joins that will be four.
Marshall was the director who brought us the 2002 musical adaptation of Chicago and also Memoirs of a Geisha. I know nothing of the play except for the fact that I hope it's different enough in tone to the film because if it's not, ...

The Weinsteins have snapped up a Woody Allen film again and here's hoping they do a better job of marketing and releasing the pic than they did with his last movie CASSANDRA'S DREAM. The movie which unbelievably was a cool looking crime/thriller SET IN ENGLAND with BRITISH ACTORS Colin Farrell, Ewan McGregor and Tom Wilkinson didn't even secure a theatrical release in the U.K. despite the Weinsteins distributing the movie in other foreign markets and of course in the U.S.

Though a U.S. release is one way of putting it. Dumping the film is another! The widest release the Weinsteins gave it was 105 theatres, which has earned the movie a pitiful $742, 212 domestic.

So it's time to move on and look forward to VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA...

Finally we have a plot for the movie, which I have been dreaming about ever since I heard Penelope Cruz, Rebecca Hall and Scarlett Johansson would be together on screen...
Just as New York City was the backdrop in Woody Allen's Manhattan, the stunning city of Barcelona is the setting for the romantic adventures of Vicky and Cristina. These two young Americans spend a summer in Spain and meet a flamboyant artist (Bardem) and his beautiful ...
