Screen Gems has launched an official website for the film adaptation of the TokyoPop manga Priest, which carries the first glimpse of Paul Bettany in the film, opening August 13th 2010 (Sept. in the U.K.)

Set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampire, Bettany plays a warrior priest who turns against his Church to take down the blood suckers who have kidnapped his niece.

Either the movie hasn't finished casting yet, or IMDB is just slow as hell for this movie... but they only have Cam Gigandet down to co-star so far. Scott Stewart, director of Bettany's upcoming Legion directs.

Charles Darwin is a personal hero of mine so obviously I've long been looking forward to Creation, a preposterously long time in coming biopic of one of the most important thinkers that ever existed. His work "The Origin of Species", changed the world forever and I still don't think, even in 2009, during the 200th year anniversary of his birth, that the magnitude of just what he discovered has been fully appreciated.

Richard Dawkins claims that Darwin answered the question of why we exist. So Creation indeed, is an apt title for the upcoming movie directed by his great grandson Jon Amiel, whose 2003 Hilary Swank nonsense actioner The Core never did quite go to these depths.

Paul Bettany stars as Darwin and his real life wife Jennifer Connelly here plays the scientist's wife Emma. The movie aims to look not just at Darwin's amazing discovery and his political battle in getting it out there but also the strain it caused on his family. Whilst Darwin himself was only a mild Christian (it was his doubting of the bible which springboarded his journey to agnosticism), his wife was of devout faith.

The line "Do you not care that you and I might be separated for all of eternity" is so strong ...

Following in the footsteps of Keira Knightley, Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson last year, Brit actress Emily Blunt has made a corset movie.

It's titled THE YOUNG VICTORIA and follows the emotional young life of the famous Queen of England who took the crown at the tender age of 18. The movie follows her romance to Prince Albert (Rupert Friend), her growth into the role of being Britain's ruler and her relationship to her mentor and future P.M. William Lamb (Paul Bettany).

The movie opens March 6th in the U.K. but has yet to win a U.S. deal...

I like the very down to Earth performance from Blunt, I like that we see her giggle. Too often (THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL) we see very stiff performances in this corset genre but Blunt looks to have given a lot of warmth to a character who is usually seen dressed all in black and with the weight of the world on her shoulders. I did enjoy THE DUCHESS last year, so I am capable of liking these movies.
Jean-Marc Valle, who previously directed the Indie movie C.R.A.Z.Y. has helmed this one from a script by the writer of VANITY FAIR and GOSFORD PARK.

After ironically struggling to get the horror movie Born into the filming stages earlier this year, The Hollywood Reporter say that real life couple Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly will try again to work on a movie together with a film titled Creation.

Similar title, though this is a completely different project and is actually extremely interesting.

The movie is a biopic of Charles Darwin, which will see Bettany play the founder of the theory of evolution and Connelly his wife Emma. It will be based on the novel Annie's Box which was written by Darwin's Great Grandson Randal Keynes and has been adapted for screen by John Collee.

"John Collee's compelling script tells the remarkable story behind Darwin's revolutionary theory and the foundation of a book that changed the world," said Oscar-winning producer Jeremy Thomas, the force behind the project. "We think of Darwin as an old man with a gray beard. The reality of our story is very different."
Collee was the screenwriter of Master and Commander, a movie that Bettany himself gave his best on screen performance to date back in 2003 and was shamefully robbed of an Academy Award nomination. Jon Amiel - helmer of The Core, Entrapment and The ...

Paul Bettany an Archangel in LEGION

Paul Bettany who impressed the hell out of me with his energetic and utterly creepy performance as the albino monk Silas in THE DA VINCI CODE, is going religious again for LEGION, a first time feature film from visual effects guru Scott Stewart. The film is being setup at Screen Gems, with Sony in charge of the overseas rights after striking a deal with the project's original founder Bold Films at Cannes.

Stewart got the directing gig after his initial script re-write and his visual presentation of the project "impressed" the head of Screen Gems.

LEGION will follow what happens when God gets fed up with humans and sends a legion of angels to wipe us all out for the second time. Our only hope lies in the group of misfits who are aided by the archangel Michael (Bettany).

Bettany's a great actor and I'm all for first time directors getting their chance, especially when it comes from their own script. Production begins next month in New Mexico.
