As expected, Hedge Funds will be the villain of Wall Street 2 (seriously great title guys, it's so much better than Money Never Sleeps, right?) and according to Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood Daily, they will be fronted by the villainous Javier Bardem.

Michael Douglas' sleeze bag Gordon Gekko is being postioned as the good guy this time around and will attempt to garner our sympathy by patching up his estranged relationship with his daughter after spending a lengthy spell in prison. Shia LaBeouf is the man in the middle, as an ambitious Charlie Sheen esque stockbroker who is engaged Grekko's daughter but has a bit of a breakdown when his stockbroking mentor is unexpectedly killed due to the pressures of the job.

Shia of course blames Bardem's Hedge Fund Manager. The film will look at the events from June 2008 to now, with the recent Federal bailout included and a reformed Gekko seeing the future clearer than ours, knowing the market is about to sink.

Finke reports...
Shia goes to Gordon saying, 'I need your help', and makes a Faustian deal with Gekko who in return wants Shia's help getting back with the daughter. From then on, it's 'antagonism' for everyone".

One thing's for certain, you can't knock Oliver Stone for not being current these days. He moved from World Trade Center, to a movie about the Bush administration and the former President himself just as he was about to leave office and final judgement be cast upon him and now he's set to revisit world finance, at a scary time in the global economy.

The news hit yesterday that Oliver Stone, as I call him America's cinematic conscious, is out to attack hedge funds by making a sequel to Wall Street, the movie that had the slogan "greed is good" when it won a Best Leading Man Oscar for Michael Douglas in 1987. Oh, how Stone will enjoy using a similar tagline today.

Variety say Stone, who will be directing his first ever sequel, has joined the project which was actually setup back in 2007 to re-star Michael Douglas from a script written by Lolita (the remake) scribe Stephen Schiff for 20th Century Fox and attracted the attention of Stephen Frears (The Queen). The recent recession outdated Schiff's screenplay and a re-write was ordered from Allan Loeb, who already tackled man's greed towards money with last year's 21 and is actually a licensed stockbroker.

Taking as its central platform the build-up to the invasion of Iraq in 2003 and the subsequent, immediate aftermath when cracks in the endeavour started to appear, Oliver Stone’s W. intercuts these scenes of the familiar president with a catalogue of moments and events that eventually led him to the White House.

From hazing at the traditional Bush family fraternity of Delta Kappa at Yale, where he amusingly responds to a question about following the family into politics with a drunkenly unburdened ‘hell no..’, to his first step onto the political ladder as Governor of Texas we get W. the whole package. The directionless graduate who can’t or won’t hold down any job that Bush Senior arranges for him, the accompanying drinking problem (‘What are you, a Kennedy?’), the struggle to find his own way out of his father’s shadow, and his lifelong love of the simplicity of baseball.

The film even begins with, and continues as a motif, Bush in his presidential years dreaming of standing in an empty baseball stadium, participating in his own solitary and private game.

It’s all told with a surprisingly light, and more sardonic tone; as if Stone has taken a step sideways from his more serious ...

On Thursday night, at the London Film Festival, held the Gala premiere of Oliver Stone’s W. and braving the rain, rabid press photographers, a dutch hack with the world’s biggest umbrella, and a particularly crazy Russian TV reporter I managed to get a few shots.

Before that though, don't forget to check out my review of the movie!

I’ve been to a few of these premieres before but the gauntlet the actors face is still an eye-opener. Especially when they are as beautiful as Elizabeth Banks, who plays Laura Bush in the movie...

Walking down the red carpet with the press and tv crews on one side and the public on the other, each of them yelling and screaming for attention; and at the end near the cinema entrance the banks of the paparazzi. It’s like watching a march towards a firing squad.

Still, the actors and Oliver Stone know why they’re there and they sign autographs, do the chit-chat, pose on queue, even do a bit of hair combing (that's you Mr. Stone).

At one particulary scary moment Rebecca Loos stepped into shot, but after shouting 'Security!' a few times she wandered off. You can’t help getting caught up in it, and pretty soon ...

Announced way back in May 2007, 20th Century Fox's movie MONEY NEVER SLEEPS, a two decades later sequel to the Oscar nominated WALL STREET is going through a re-write.
Variety say Allan Loeb, the writer of this year's successful 21 and who is also a licensed stockbroker has been hired to scribe after Stephen Schiff's draft just wasn't working. Michael Douglas, is said to be waiting on the quality of the new script before he commits.

Unsurprisingly, in the current global financial climate, the movie which looked like it wasn't going to happen... is now being fast tracked.

The modern-day story will again center on Gordon Gekko, who has recently been sprung from prison and re-emerges into a much more tumultuous financial world than the one he once lorded over. The Bud Fox character, played by Charlie Sheen in the original, will not appear in the latest incarnation.

Edward R. Pressman who produced the original 1987 movie is back on board.
No word on whether Oliver Stone would be interested in directing the sequel to his own movie which he co-wrote with Stanley Weiser, who ironically he has recently re-teamed with for W.
Can Greed still be Good in this scary financial times? I'm interested in ...

The final trailer for Oliver Stone's W. is a beauty, the best cut of the lot and the one that really gets me jazzed up to see it the most.

I never, ever, thought I would be this interested in a piece of propaganda from Oliver Stone, especially when I was disappointed by much of his intentions with WORLD TRADE CENTER. This though looks fantastic and I just love Josh Brolin's scream at the end, very HOME ALONE esque...

USA Today have also revealed how the movie's opening scene plays out...

A man stands in the middle of a sunny baseball field, beaming a smile as the roar of an approving crowd is heard.
An echoing announcer's voice calls out his name: "Ladies and gentlemen, the 43rd president of the United States …" But as the camera pans back, the cheering fades, and the stadium is revealed to be empty.
With outstretched arms and raised head, the character's body forms an unmistakable symbol: W.

Meet the cabinet office of Oliver Stone's hotly anticipated biopic of the current but soon to be ousted U.S. President George W. Bush.

The main cast of W., from left to right...

Condoleezza Rice (Thandie Newton), Ari Fleischer (Rob Corddry), George Tenet (Bruce McGill), Donald Rumsfeld (Scott Glenn), General Colin Powell (Jeffrey Wright), Karl Rove (Toby Jones), Paul Wolfowitz (Dennis Boutsikaris), Dick Cheney (Richard Dreyfuss) and George W. Bush (Josh Brolin)

The movie will premiere in London at the BFI Film Festival (where we hope to have OWF attendance!), a capital city whose residents haven't always been so kind to Bush. Speaking of Britain, not listed on the picture is Ioan Grufford who plays the then U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair.

W. opens in the U.S. on October 17th.

Here's Access Hollywood's 4 minute behind-the-scenes look at Oliver Stone's upcoming biopic of the current American President, simply titled W.

Lionsgate have also released two new posters from the film, and a new billboard...

Now this is either weird as shit crazy, the smartest actor coup ever pulled off between duelling projects or someone, somewhere, has got their wires terribly crossed.

CHUD are reporting that Edgar Ramirez will be Javier Bardem's replacement as the infamous Columbian drug cartel leader Pablo Escobar in Joe Carnahan's long time in development next movie Killing Pablo.

Which all things considered after his great turns in The Bourne Ultimatum, Domino and his big upcoming roles in the two Soderbergh biopics of Che Guevara, hardly seems a bad choice at all. The thing is Oliver Stone had already thought the same thing and had cast Ramirez for his version which Antoine Fuqua is directing!

So this is one story that you would instantly through out of the window as being NOT TRUE... someone clearly getting their wires mixed up somewhere but then you hear who CHUD's source was.

Joe Carnahan himself! He says...
"I spent the last week in Colombia with Edgar Ramirez talking 'Pablo' and he has every intention of portraying Escobar and I couldn't be more fired up by the prospect. He's coming at it with boundless enthusiasm, conviction to the role and and the understanding that he's going to have to pack ...

A real eye catching poster has turned up online for the Oliver Stone directed biopic of George Bush which really succeeds in painting the movie as being a very stripped down and personal look at the much maligned President of the United States.

I really like this poster which along with the previously leaked trailer, is really doing a good job of promoting this picture.

I also really Josh Brolin in this role, though I will admit I was watching Thomas Haden Church in the pretty dire Smart People the other day and I kinda saw him more fitted to the role but Brolin will be great, I'm sure.

Really great.

And another thing I'm wondering, is Stone capable of delivering a movie where we actually care what happens to George Bush? I know this is going the satire/comedy route and is basically an attack on Bush, but will there be any sympathetic light cast on him at all?

Will we be able to buy it if there is?

Guess we will find out October 17th.

With the constant delays on Joe Carnahan's epic Killing Pablo, it's with little surprise today to report that star Javier Bardem has pulled out of the picture.

In fact, going one further than that Bardem has told Coming Soon that the scoop on him starring in the picture was " a mistake" from the start and that it simply "wasn't true" he was ever set to play Columbian drug lordr Pablo Escobar.

It's also unknown if Christian Bale is still attached to the project as the cop hell bent on tracking Escobar down. With the role being so similar to that of the role he plays in Public Enemies, one does have to wonder if he chose Michael Mann's project when it was obvious this one was some way off from being ready.

Meanwhile, as recently as July 31st, Joe Carnahan was scouting locations for the film and let everyone on his blog know that he hopes to begin shooting in the fall.

Suffering an eerily similar delay is the Oliver Stone produced and Antoine Fuqua directed Escobar, which looks at the exact same story of Escobar's rise and fall and has The Bourne Ultimatum and Vantage Point's Edgar Ramirez attached to lead.

That project ...

Lionsgate have released two new images from the much discussed Oliver Stone biopic of U.S. President George W. Bush which stars Josh Brolin in the controversial lead role.

The first image is I believe our debut look (in the background) of Noah Wyle, who is playing Don Evans - the 34th U.S. Secretary of Commerce.

One of the most exciting actors of the last 18 months - Brolin plays the much maligned President George W. Bush, Elizabeth Banks his wife Laura, James Cromwell & Ellen Burstyn (George Bush Snr. & Barbara Bush respectively) his parents.

Supporting gigs come from Ioan Grufford (Tony Blair), Richard Dreyfuss (Dick Cheney), Thandie Newton (Condoleezza Rice), Jeffrey Wright (Colin Powell), Toby Jones (Karl Rove) and Rob Corddry (Ari Fleischer). and many more.

Funny. Oliver Stone you are a genius. "What a Wonderful World" played over a George Bush montage - now that is just Golden my friend.

I couldn't stop chuckling through the last half of the trailer so I missed what happened, the first half though was a little clunky. And if it were any other director than Stone, I would attack the movie for being too much of a comedy in the brief scenes between Bush Sr. and Bush Jr.

After World Trade Center, this is exactly the kind of movie Stone needed right now. A movie which thrusts his anger in a different direction. The trailer wasn't suppose to play until tonight on Access Hollywood, but here it is a good number of hours early for your viewing pleasure...

And isn't Richard Dreyfuss just inspired as Dick Cheney?
Josh Brolin, if you get an Academy Award for playing Bush - your career will never be the same!
Look for W. in October. Something tells me you won't be able to avoid this one, it's gonna be huge!

The strangest poster for a movie I think I've ever seen in my life has turned up at ION Cinema for the George Dub-Ya Bush biopic.

You can see the suppose to be hilarious poster from Cannes below which features several of the most idiotic remakes Bush has made during his seven years in power...

Far more effective I feel is the cover image of EW in getting over the feel for the film which will more Charlie Wilson's War mixed with Dr. Strangelove than the usual Stone drama.

In related news, Variety report that Jesse Bradford (Flags of our Fathers) has joined the cast as W's college roommate, presumably for some kind of flashback sequence of Bush during his younger days.

I know I keep saying it but there is something very malicious behind Oliver Stone's movie, an anger that has made him direct this film next rather than out of something meaningful he had to tell. This is an attack movie - nothing more, nothing less.

Richard Dreyfuss, sadly the last of the famous Jaws trio to still be with us - has landed himself a rare supporting part in a big Hollywood production.

The trades say he is to play Dick Cheney, the current U.S. Vice President.

Filming begins on the Oliver Stone directed movie this month, so it has all the chance of being released theatrically in October (during the Presidential elections) and so it can be released on DVD in January (for Bush's depature from office).

One of the most exciting actors of the last 18 months - Josh Brolin plays the much maligned President George W. Bush, Elizabeth Banks his wife Laura, James Cromwell & Ellen Burstyn his parents with supporting gigs from Ioan Grufford (Tony Blair), Thandie Newton (Condoleezza Rice), Jeffrey Wright (Colin Powell) and many more.

Another politically themed movie story for you.

The last big casting (we think) for W. has been announced and it's the role of Donald Rumsfeld - the former U.S. Secretary of State which has gone to 67 year veteran Scott Glenn.

Glenn last appeared in The Bourne Ultimatum in a pretty substantial supporting part and has appeared in countless big movies such as Apoclaypse Now, The Hunt for Red October and Nashville.

Pretty good casting actually and the resemblance is pretty obvious.

Also it would seem that Jeffrey Wright has indeed landed the Dick Cheney part because filming must be well under-way now and we've never heard anything to the contrary and IMDB still have him on the casting page. There's no reason to think he won't be in it.

W. opens in October this year with Josh Brolin (as Bush) leading an all-star cast for this political comedy biopic - probably made along the same lines as Charlie Wilson's War. America's cinematic conscious Oliver Stone directs.

We've spoken about W an awful lot of times so I will keep this brief.

Oliver Stone's biopic of the current and much criticised U.S. President will begin serious production next week with a firm release date now set in stone.

The movie will open October 17th - well before the end of Bush's term of office after Lionsgate picked up the distribution rights to the film.

Oliver Stone said in a press release...
"The impact of George W. Bush's presidency will be felt for many years to come. Despite a meteoric, almost illogical rise to power, and a tremendous influence on the world, we don't really know much about Mr. Bush beyond the controlled images we've been allowed to see on TV. This movie's taking a bold stab at looking behind that curtain. I'm real pleased that Lionsgate has the independence necessary to bring this provocative story to an American audience."
This film is going to be huge. No holds barred attack on Bush the likes we haven't seen since Michael Moore's 9/11 documentary.

October 17th is not going to be the happiest of days for Bush and his close colleagues - though I'm sure it will be a grilling many Bush detractors have been ...

Ok, so they have done an amazing job making Josh Brolin look like the current U.S. President George Bush but again I'm asking you - what does the actor see in this material for W. (note the dot that now accompanies the title - that is not just the end of sentence).

He's too good to play parody like this and at the end of the day he has to make himself look stupid for two hours on screen and I can't imagine director Oliver Stone for a second giving Bush any chance for emotional resonance. Bush is going to look inept, incapable and idiotic... it's a thankless role for Brolin.

This image which has landed on the cover of Entertainment Weekly tells us two further things.

NUMBER 1: That ridiciulous smirk on the face of Bush will be a frequent look in the film, I can guarantee it.

NUMBER 2: This movie is going to be huge - one of the bigger hits of Stone's career and will dominate the press for the week of it's release.

Also on the cover is Elizabeth Banks as Laura Bush. Co-starring with them are James Cromwell (as the other George Bush), Ellen Burstyn (as Barbara Bush senior), ...

Yeah, we are talking about W again.

The first four pages of Stanley Weiser's October 2007 draft for the film - the same script which was sent around Bush experts for review the other day by The Hollywood Reporter - has also been spread across the web by the same source.

Screenshots of the pages can be seen below - or you can download the PDF File HERE.

My thoughts? If the script stays the same as this then it's gonna be a lame movie. Are we really suppose to believe the conversation of the "Axis of Evil" was said like this, as if the most powerful men in the world actually talk to each other as if they are at school?

I know I keep talking about Oliver Stone's next movie W but I'm so fascinated by it on more than one level.

The first being that knowing Stone - George Bush is in for one hell of a butchering come November when this movie is released. Those of you who stayed away from the politically driven "war on terror" movies of 2007 won't be able to stay aware from this one. Seeing Dub-Ya go down is as much box office gold as seeing DiCaprio & Winslet go down on the Titanic.

But on the other level is one of 2007's best breakthrough actors - Josh Brolin.

After such acclaimed roles in No Country For Old Men and American Gangster, he has surprisingly agreed to go into the deep end and play Bush in a film where his character is going to be portrayed as both incompetent and a joke. Just what does he get from such a grilling?

Anyway the point of this post is that The Hollywood Reporter have a nice three page spread detailing the thoughts of many Bush biographers who have read the script for Stone's movie (draft circa October 07 but it's thought to have gone through two seperate drafts ...
