Nicole Kidman has joined her great friend Naomi Watts in Woody Allen's next picture according to Variety. It's the first time the pair have worked together in a significant capacity (Watts very briefly appeared in Kidman's 1991 comedy Flirting).

The pair were set to make Need, a thriller at Paramount for Nip/Tuck creator Ryan Murphy but for whatever reason, nothing has come of it yet.

The still yet untitled Woody Allen London set drama has possibly his most impressive cast to date. Alongside Kidman and Watts are Anthony Hopkins, Josh Brolin, Antonio Banderas and Freida Pinto.

What's so great about Woody Allen, is that whilst your getting excited for him to start working on one movie, you know he must have another ready to be unleashed upon us. On June 6th in the U.S. (we won't get it till February most likely) released will be Whatever Works, his movie with Larry David which Rope of Silicon have an extensive photo gallery.

Has Allen got any more big names up his sleeve for this movie?

Two days after picking up his second Academy Award, MILK actor Sean Penn is said to be in talks to join Doug Liman's (THE BOURNE IDENITY, JUMPER) new thriller FAIR GAME according to Variety.

The movie would reunite Penn with his 21 GRAMS and ASSASSINATION OF RICHARD NIXON co-star Naomi Watts.

Penn is in talks for the role of Ambassador Joseph Wilson, a guy who watched his wife's CIA status become compromised after he wrote op-ed columns that accused the Bush Administration of manipulating intelligence about weapons of mass destruction to justify the invasion of Iraq.

Watts plays the outed former C.I.A. member Valerie Plame.

You can read about the fascinating true story of Plame... RIGHT HERE... but it's too much to go into on this site.

Penn previously starred in the political thriller THE INTERPRETER and is close to William Pohlad whose River Road studio are financing the picture. Pohlad has produced Terrence Malick's upcoming film TREE OF LIFE (which stars Penn) and financed Penn's INTO THE WILD.

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE hottie Frieda Pinto, in what will be only her second movie...

... and Aussie actress Naomi Watts have joined Woody Allen's currently untitled ensemble drama according to Variety.

Josh Brolin and Anthony Hopkins as we announced two weeks ago will also star.

The movie will mark Allen's return to London after briefly leaving the country for VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA and his next movie WHATEVER WORKS, a dark love triangle comedy which stars Larry David & Evan Rachel Wood.

SMART AS HELL choice from Pinta to work with Allen this early in her career and as her follow-up to the massive press she has gotten for SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE. Allen will treat her well, she's in very good hands here.

Two trailers premiered today for two flicks that I dare say were only on the middle blip of our radar. That is to say, they weren't ones we were counting down to see because of their subject matter but they are made by interesting enough talent that he might just dip into them come release time.

First up it's German director Tom Tyker's (RUN LOLA RUN, PERFUME: STORY OF A MURDERER) latest film THE INTERNATIONAL which stars Clive Owen and Naomi Watts. They plan an Interpol Agent (Owen) and a Manhatten D.A (Watts) who are thrust into bringing down one of the world's most powerful banks after they learn of a corruption plot used to finance terrorism and war.

And the second trailer is for Clint Eastwood's 1920's period drama CHANGELING, which was well reviewed at Cannes and stars Angelina Jolie whose stolen nine year old son has been returned to her five months after the disppearance, only to find it's not her actual son. John Malkovich and Amy Ryan co-star.
The movie looks typically moody from Eastwood, that infamous black and drab colour scheme of his present from the first frame. And so harshly robbed of an Oscar nom last year for ...

Adding to the already big star cast of the new King Lear film adaptation, The Guardian report that Naomi Watts will play the third sister alongside the previously announced Keira Knightley and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Anthony Hopkins plays the title role in the Joshua Michael Stern (Swing Vote) version of the Shakespeare classic, a role he first performed in 1987!

Stern says...
"The one thing that I'm staying away from is stunt casting," said Stern, "so there won't be the American comedian, but there will be some really great actors playing smaller roles that will make a lot of sense."
He went on to say that we can expect to hear some further big casting very soon. The project is already the highest profile Shakespeare work since the 2004 under-rated movie The Merchant of Venice, one Al Pacino's best performances of recent years.

Personally, I'm still a little saddened that it won't be Ian McKellen starring in this adaptation but I don't need to remind anyone that Hopkins is still one of the finest actors around. Now let's hope Stern keeps the campness of movies like The Other Boleyn Girl and Elizabeth: The Golden Age on low and goes out and gives us a REAL tragedy ...

Review by Matt Holmes

[rating: 0.5]

In a small art house theatre this week I saw what is undoubtedly the worst and most insulting motion picture of 2008 so far and thankfully it's now pretty much completely out of U.K. cinema's so you can avoid this cinematic tragedy. It's not because it's badly directed, it's not because it's badly acted... those are fine, really good at times in fact but it's because of it's tone and shameful exploitative art exercise which serves no other purpose than to lecture the audience in something which the film itself promotes.

If ever the term "having your cake and eating it" reigns true it is for this piece of garbage.

I don't like being told off when I go to the theatre, especially when it's for something I haven't done. I've paid my £5 to sit down and be entertained, be moved, be challenged psychologically or philosophically. I pay my money to see ...

The more Platinum Dunes' remake to Alfred Hitchcock's crowd pleasing masterpiece The Birds is put off, the more unlikely it will ever happen.

Which is good news because absolutely none of Hitchcock's works post Shadow of a Doubt should even be thought of as a remake. Each one of them is such a personal directorial vision and so masterfully crafted that you really are playing with fire when you attempt to remake one of them. Just ask Gus Van Sant, he will tell you all about it.

Speaking to Shock Till You Drop whilst promoting her new movie Funny Games (also a remake, and so soon after King Kong... that will give a girl a reputation) actress Naomi Watts who will star in the role made famous by Tippi Hedren in the original gave us the good news...
"It's a work-in-progress at this point," she says. "I think it's a wonderful film. There are great things in it that interest me. The script isn't completely there yet, it probably won't happen until next year."
"Work-in-progress" is a term I most definitely wanna hear every time this remake is mentioned. It basically translates as "It's not good enough to film".

Though I will be honest with ...
