The Hollywood Reporter ran an article Sunday night (I know, I know... we are a little late) with the news that a Bad Boys 3 had officially become a priority at Columbia.

Hot newcomer Peter Craig (he has wrote the script for the latest Ben Affleck film, and Cowboy Bebop at Warners for Keanu Reeves) has been hired to write a third movie in the over-the-top, often racist, loud, and IMO totally ridiculous, almost parody-like franchise that the studio hope will entice the old gang to return for one more outing.

And return for a little less money than what they could probably make elsewhere, cos at the end of the day Bad Boys II made only $273 million worldwide. Yes, usually that is a wonderful haul but on a budget of $130 million which would probably be well over $170 million now with inflated salaries and Bay's inflated explosion costs post-Transformers 2, so it's far from a guaranteed big money earner at Columbia. And if they lose Smith, Lawrence or Bay... they don't really have a franchise, so it's gotta be a mix of a spectacular script and a desire from the three to come back for a little less, if ...

I haven't seen Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen and nor do I plan to. I had vowed not to see another Michael Bay movie ever again after The Island but I was invited to see the first Transformers as for some reason Paramount thought it needed the publicity, so I went along for the free ride.

Though I never reviewed the film, I certainly made my feelings about Michael Bay and that movie known at least a dozen times. So I wasn't surprised that this time I wasn't invited back, and there ain't no way I was paying to see it. And in reality, any of you guys that fuel this kind of nonsense really deserve to be fed shit summer in, summer out, if you keep coming back to this series.

So I don't really know much about the apparenat racism that is at the forefront in Bay's movie in regards to a couple of robot characters, apart from what I read online.

/film though do a good job of explaining...
The characters in question are Skids and Mudflap, who after an initial appearance as a ratty old ice cream truck are upgraded to be green and orange Chevys. More to the point, ...

Before we start, let me just quickly establish a couple of terms:

Transformers; a group of robots created in the 1980s capable of changing shape in to various recognisable machines. Two bands known as Autobots and Decepticons are locked in an epic battle which will decide the fate of humanity.

Bayformers; film series in which the aforementioned Transformers are parodied as a group of wise-cracking cartoon characters who are fighting for the fate of the USA and its accompanying galactic hegemony.

Now, onto the review... Sweet Jesus! Does Michael Bay not know how to make a movie? Someone needs to send him back to film school. Watching Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen convinced me that he speaks to political advisers, image consultants, the creators of Ren and Stimpy, and animators before he realises he needs scriptwriters.

Bayformers 2 is a mess of a story loosely glued together with lame jokes, fighting pixels and Megan Fox's ass. The worst thing is that I kind of enjoyed some of it, which leads me to question my own sanity, but also to question how necessary is plot in a film that's all about the spectacle - the smell of the jet fuel, the sound of the ...

UPDATED: Michael Bay needs time off (it's my opinion that Paramount have announced a possible big movie that they MIGHT be releasing in 2011 just to stop other studios taking that date. If it's not going be TRANSFORMERS 3, it will be something else... and I can't imagine they would drop Bay to rush a third movie out by another director).

Bay on his forums...
I said I was taking off a year from Transformers. Paramount made a mistake in dating Transformers 3 - they asked me on the phone - I said yes to July 4 - but for 2012 - whoops! Not 2011!!! That would mean I would have to start prep in September. No way. My brain needs a break from fighting robots. -- Michael
Dreamworks and Paramount have almost found their own version of the SPIDER-MAN and James Bond franchises, more specifically the latter as they are forging ahead with a movie every two years at this rate.

Before even the release of TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN and well before anyone had even thought about a third movie, the studio's have gone ahead and staked July 1st. 2011 as their release date for TRANSFORMERS 3.

Variety say it's a case ...

How can you do this to me?

How the hell have you made me so excited for TRANSFORMERS 2: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN after I crapped on your first movie two years ago?

Well I do kind of know how. It's because the trailer shows no story or actual direction that doesn't involve blowing things up. That's why. But still, thank you for providing me with a trailer that kicked my ass this morning.

The following trailer is attached to some prints of FRIDAY THE 13TH and will probably not last long on the web but as you know, once it's out there, like a virus it spreads and grows, so you should be able to catch it if you look hard enough.

Doesn't it promote a movie Michael Bay has no chance in delivering?

Just a day before Jason Voorhees makes his epic return in a FRIDAY THE 13TH reboot and word comes from The Hollywood Reporter's Risky Business blog that a director has been chosen for the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET redo.

The last of the big five influential slasher horror films of the 70's and 80's (TCM, PSYCHO, HALLOWEEN, FRIDAY THE 13TH being the others) to be remade will be directed by commercials and music video helmer Samuel Bayer for Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes.

Bayer, director of Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit music video had spent well over a year trying to remake another 80's horror classic in the vampire film NEAR DARK at the same studio but for whatever reason, it never got pass the script stage development.

Titled A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, this new redo was written by CAPE FEAR writer Wesley Strick and will once again re-introduce Freddy Krueger into the world, this time with a new actor playing the lead part.

The idea is to showcase a scary Krueger and not the joke cracking one that appeared in the later movies. The movie should begin production in the Spring in the Chicago suburbs and with it being Freddy's 25th anniversary this year, ...

I guess it promises a much darker, meaner and less clean looking film than the original.

Though it doesn't half remind me of Sauron from THE LORD OF THE RINGS...

TRANSFORMERS 2 opens June 26th and is once again directed by Michael Bay. Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox star.

The mag came through my door yesterday and contains the very first official snaps from this Summer's sequel which hint towards a robot battle among the great Pyramids of Egypt...

And them some more from USA Today, which you can see after the jump...

TRANSFORMERS 2: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN is expected to have it's first trailer attached to the Superbowl event. Michael Bay confirmed on his message boards that February will be the month to bow the footage and the most likely place to generate huge buzz would be the biggest sporting event of the year.

He also said the poster campaign would begin after the New Year.

According to producer Don Murphy, going for a late but heavy marketing campaign is intentional and a cost-effective way to save money (as the general feeling is the anticipation for the sequel will be heavy anyway).
“We’re kind of trying to follow the PIRATES OF CARIBBEAN model, that is, no publicity for as long as possible, since the sequel will have enormous attention no matter what we do.”
Though I can't help but feel after THE DARK KNIGHT became the biggest summer blockbuster of all time, how dumb it is NOT to pour a whole ton of money into this movie RIGHT NOW! That long and amazing campaign had people talking about THE DARK KNIGHT for months.... you can't deny it didn't work.

Commercials and music video helmer Sam Bayer has been hired to direct Fiasco Heights at Universal, a thriller which will be produced under Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes banner.

It's a project we spoke about last April when Kyle Ward's film noir esque spec script was picked up - centering on a notorious hitman who teams with a failed private investigator in search of a missing women and an invaulable briefcase.

It was a plot I remarked you could tick off every cliche from the "briefcase" genre in an instant, though I love film noir... probably my favourite genre so I eat this stuff for breakfast

Bayer who is also attached to remake the 1987 horror movie Near Dark for Platinum Dunes (if it ever gets made), is responsible for the famous music video to Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit and more recently Green Day's Boulveard of Broken Dreams.

His impressive resume also lists vids for Justin Timberlake, Metallica, Sheryl Crow and The Smashing Pumpkins among many others.

Michael Bay spoke to EW about various projects he is either directing or has a heavy hand in producing.

On TRANSFORMERS 2 which he is currently filming out on a secret location...
When we were writing the script, I said to the writers, "I hate sequels that try to make it to the third movie. Pretend like we’re never having a third movie, so let’s go for broke on the second one. I hate those cliffhangers! Let’s just make this movie stand on its own." I really feel this movie is not a forced sequel. I think the script is really good, and I think it’s got a lot of new stuff in it. There are a lot of rumors out there, but we’ve released a lot of fake stuff. We’ve done a really good job of keeping things secret.

On the FRIDAY THE 13TH redo...
I haven’t seen the director's cut because he’s still cutting, but I know this one will really be scary; it’s also funny, as well. It’s a fun college adventure that goes awry. It’s not a movie I would ever show my mom! (Laughs) We don’t make these for our mothers; we make these for the fans out there.

Easier on the eye than the big clunky robots from Michael Bay's ridiculous Transformers movie - the ultra hot Megan Fox has agreed to return for the sequel according to The Hollywood Reporter.

As has Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson and remarkably John Turturro, whose supporting role in the last film is one of the strangest I think I've ever seen from a tentpole studio release.

Michael Bay returns to the helm working on a script once again by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and now Ehren Kruger (The Ring) who has boarded the writing team for this sequel due out in June 2009.

Isabella Lucas and Rainn Wilson are both newcomers to the series which now see's Shia LaBeouf in college.

Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes production company has been drafted in to produce OUIJA. The supernatural game, probably more recognisable if written colloquially as 'wee-gee' (here in the UK at least), is going to be part of Hasbro's six-year deal with Universal studios.

The news was broke by The Hollywood Reporter this morning...
Platinum Dunes' Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller will produce "Ouija" along with Hasbro.

Although the specific log line for the film is being kept under wraps, the film will be a supernatural adventure with the Ouija board playing an integral part of the story. The movie is not taking a "Jumanji"-like approach, which involved a game coming to life.
I'm really not convinced by any of these board game adaptations, though if any would make an interesting movie I guess it's this one - just a pity it's going to have Bay's influence. Not only that... but David Berenbaum, who penned the mostly lame Elf and worked on other box-office bombs such as The Spiderwick Chronicles, is said to be writing the screenplay.

For those of you not familiar with the concept of the Ouija board, here's a quick snippet from Wiki...
A ouija board is any flat surface printed ...

Rainn Wilson (Juno, The Office) has joined Transformers 2.

He will play a college professor he revealed to MTV during a sneak preview screening of his upcoming music comedy The Rocker.

Wilson claims he hasn't read the script and that it will probably be nothing more than a cameo...

Shia LaBeouf will return as Sam Whitwicky as a now college student, with the role of his roomate still un-cast after Superbad actor Jonah Hill turned them down. Aussie actress Isabella Lucas joined the cast a few weeks back, possibly as the new eye candy of the film replacing Megan Fox.
Michael Bay returns to the helm working on a script once again by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and now Ehren Kruger (The Ring) who has boarded the writing team for this sequel due out in June 2009.

Michael Bay tells us via his blog that Teresa Palmer has not been cast in the Transformers sequel as previously reported, claiming that she wasn't even considered for a role.

Surprisingly, today is also the day that IGN tell us that a fellow Aussie actress by the name of Isabel Lucas has been cast for the role of Alice, presumably the part Palmer was said to be in for. Maybe someone got their wires crossed somewhere and this new Aussie broad, is actually the one that the Australian press originally got mixed up with...

Lucas is a regular on Home & Away but did recently make her first transition to film with a role in the upcoming vampire horror Daybreakers.

Recently, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura said this to MTV when he dismissed the other report of Jonah Hill's casting...
“Ultimately, we’ll have a couple casting surprises for everybody soon.”
Filming is set to begin in June as long as the SAG strike doesn't happen.

EW, the very source who broke the story of talks between actor Jonah Hill and Paramount over a sidekick role in the Transformers sequel - are today also the place to tell us that those talks broke down and he won't be in the final feature after all.

No word has been given as to why. Maybe they didn't offer him enough, the role wasn't big enough or whatever.

But the truth is he won't be in the picture.

Word is though he will cameo in the Night at the Museum sequel due out next year May which will just once again confirm to my girlfriend that yes indeed, Jonah Hill seems to just float in and out of movies without much fanfare.

Transformers 2 is expected to begin shooting soon (if it hasn't already) once again under the direction of Michael Bay - with Shia LaBeouf and the majority of the previous cast (no word on Megan Fox yet though) back and so far only Aussie hottie Teresa Palmer as a newcomer.

Now that the Justice League actors have been let go for the second and likely final time, it's now up to them to find work elsewhere. Australian actress Teresa Palmer looks to have been the first one out of the blocks to find a job and it will likely be a well paid one.

According to The Courier Mail, she is likely to be the second new face in Transformers 2 after it was revealed yesterday that Jonah Hill was in final talks for the picture.

Palmer made her debut in a brief cameo for the 2005 horror Wolf Creek, before gaining a substantial role in The Grudge 2 and then winning some Indie credit from stealing the limelight away from Daniel Radcliffe in December Boys.

Palmer's big break looked set in stone when she was cast for the role of Talia Al Ghul in Justice League but that movie of course has died a slow death, however she should still get that breakthrough next summer... just this time in a movie about robots.

I wonder if she will be replacing Megan Fox's character - or whether the movie will be big enough for both beauties?

So, I saw the hilarious Forgetting Sarah Marshall last week (which I think is the funniest film in at least three years) and the moment Jonah Hill popped up for his supporting role, my girlfriend goes - "that guy is in everything... is he like the American version of Russell Brand - does he just play himself on screen, is he famous?".

Which I think does sum up Jonah Hill's career thus far. He has pigeon-holed himself with a certain character which he does play very well it has to be said but the more he will do this type of role, the less easy it will be for him to break out in the future.

But the money from this film will keep him going for a while.

EW say Jonah Hill is in early talks to join the Michael Bay sequel to his Transformers movie. It's said he will provide the comic relief as a sidekick to Shia LaBeouf's character... possibly as a college roommate. In the first movie LaBeouf kinda did both roles himself, so now he can give some of the comedic lines to Hill.

The Dreamworks/Paramount movie will begin filming this summer, probably June - for a release next ...
