My time on the internet has been so small lately that it's taken me the best part of a week to talk about the trailer for Shutter Island, the knock your balls off creepy B-movie esque trailer for Martin Scoresese's latest movie with Leonardo DiCaprio, which looks absurdly brilliant. I can't tell you how much I'm loving this feeling that is coming back to directors right now, the bug that caught Sam Raimi recently with his nostalgic and over the top fun Drag Me To Hell has hit Scorsese big time.

This looks to be his most "out there" movie since Cape Fear.

And Robert Richardson, a name most people won't know but whose cinematography you will have appreciated in Kill Bill, Casino and Scorsese's own The Aviator and Bringing Out the Dead... looks to be on another level right here. How gorgeous does this movie look?

Like De Niro in years past, when DiCaprio teams up with Marty he is like a different actor and he looks great here. My favourite line of the trailer is when he is on the ship out there, doing the "for the criminally insane" line, which reminds me so much of what Peter Jackson did with ...

THE BROTHERS BLOOM is on the move again, the unfortunate victim of being an unusual genre movie a studio doesn't quite know what to do with.

For the second time, Summit Entertainment have delayed Rian Johnson's well liked con/adventure/comedy movie, this time moving it from a early January release all the way to May 15th, where it will run in a limited release for 2 weeks before going wide.

Originally the movie focusing on Adrien Brody and Mark Ruffalo as two con artists who meet their match with the eccentric billionaire Rachel Weisz was to open wide in October, after it's stellar play at the Toronto International Film Festival. The Weinsteins then decided to dump it to a quiet January release but after another set of good reviews at the BFI Film Festival, it seems they have had a change of heart and once again think the movie can perform.

May is the much stronger month for movies and shows the level of confidence they now have in the film but it's also the month where it will be up against the studio blockbusters.

On May 29th for instance... there's Pixar's UP to contend with. Anyway in the meanwhile, you can read both our ...

Matt here... this is our second review of THE BROTHERS BLOOM. Our first was conducted by Daniel Faulkner, out at the Toronto International Film Festival.

He also spoke to director Rian Johnson for an exclusive interview, which you can read here.

Now, OWF's Mark Clark was at the LFF last week where he saw THE BROTHERS BLOOM and took the shots from the premiere which accompanies this review.

The con artist movie; film-makers are attracted to them because they provide an in-built opportunity for multi-layered story-telling, sleight of hand, a platform for tricks. But creating one is also a self-imposed test of nerves because if there’s one story type that’s hard to do well it’s this one. And the attraction for the audience? Well as the saying goes, an audience would rather be confused than bored

In Rian Johnson’s follow up to his mesmeric debut, the high-school film noir BRICK, he takes his chance at creative self-examination with his story about the itinerant BROTHERS BLOOM; a pair of con men first attracted by the possibilities of pulling the wool over cash-rich eyes when just a pair of troublesome boys, carrying with them a life experience of empty pockets and a collection of foster homes. ...

BLINDNESS, the third film from Brazilian film-maker Fernando Meirelles opens in the U.S. today but you can preview the first five minutes of the movie in full at Yahoo and decide if it's something you just have to see.

Based on the much lauded Jose Saramago novel, the movie revolves around a wild city epidemic which causes instant "white blindess" and stars Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, Alice Braga and Danny Glover.

Almost venturing into that kind of fake real acting found in THE HAPPENING, I would say the sequence is pretty successful. It is almost like a talented director working from a M. Night Shyalaman script, this is the kind of interesting results you can get.

Though the critics haven't been so kind, BLINDNESS currently scores a 40% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

With this story, we might finally see Meirelles be a little quieter and steadier with his camera. That is a very good thing indeed because I nearly walked out of THE CONSTANT GARDNER because it started to make me feel sick.

Sadly, the movie doesn't open in the U.K. till November.

This week we are expecting to have some exclusive interviews and content for The Brothers Bloom, the follow-up from director Rian Johnson's exciting debut film Brick which stars Mark Ruffalo and Adrien Brody as two con men brothers who meet their match in the glamorous and eccentric Rachel Weisz.

Even though I let my feelings well known that the trailer completely lowered my expectations for the film, I still wanted to see it. These are fine actors, who very rarely put in a bad performance and the plot had so much potential and Johnson is a director I have been tracking for a while.

The news today though further puts doubts into the quality of the $20 million film which we are seeing at the Toronto Film Festival this weekend. The Weinsteins have pulled the movie from it's October 24th wide release and turned it into a December 19th limited release, they are clearly worried about it's commercial viability.

Depending on how the limited release goes, a wider one is penciled in for mid-January. This comes from the director's own message board...
There were a few reasons for the move: October and November are crowded as hell, it’s a tough tough market, especially for ...

If I remember rightly the trailer for Rian Johnson's caper comedy The Brothers Bloom, the follow-up to his outstanding modern day film noir Brick was released the weekend before last, at the height of the Comic Con media blitz.

I remember watching it but not giving myself enough time to right about it, though I'm sure if the trailer had blown me away like I was hoping and expecting it to with the cast involved, then I would have found time to talk about it before now.

The Brothers Bloom features Adrien Brody and Mark Ruffalo as a pair of con artist brothers who take the extremely eccentric millionaire Rachel Weisz on a trip around the world, whilst at the same time trying to rob her out of money in one big last job. Great plot but sadly it looks about as cool as Johnny English rather than Ocean's Eleven, most of the gags don't work - it's way too light hearted for it's own good. Looks pretty appalling actually.

The movie opens October 24th.

Zodiac star Mark Ruffalo is making the early career move into directing.

Variety say his debut film as a helmsman will be Sympathy for Delicious, an adaptation of an original screenplay from Chris Thornton (first time scribe who was worked various jobs on film sets including grip, visual effects and production assistant) which will begin shooting in the fall in L.A.

New company Corner Store Entertainment will finance, Thornton and Ruffalo will both star, as will Spider-Man's James Franco.

Thornton in his first acting role to date will play "Delicious" Dean O'Dwyer, a wheelchair bound DJ who is struggling to survive in L.A. He turns to faith-healing and remarkably acquires the ability to cure sick people - though ironically not himself.

Ruffalo will pay a Jesuit Priest who attempts to help him come to terms with both the wonders and the limitations of his gift and Franco will play a rock star that exploits the every growing famous healer.

I have no idea where this Chris Thornton guy has come from and a few minutes of searching in google has found nothing. Can the guy write, can he act, what does he look like?

If anyone knows do contact us because this is one hell of ...

One of the worst experience of watching films in recent years was when I sat down and endured the sickly shot and vastly over-rated movie The Constant Gardner.

I could understand the important message of the film, I thought it was decently acted but I couldn't help but feel director Fernando Meirelles was being a little self-indulgent with his film-making in his Hollywood debut.

So frantic. So desperate to go to the next scene or shake the camera because it will add some tension. I hate to say this but the film felt like it was fraud, I dunno I just couldn't buy into it at all and it made me feel a little sick. I struggled through it like a visit to the dentist.

So brings us to the director's next movie Blindness about a sudden epidemic where the people randomly in a certain town are starting to turn blind.

Ultra-boring thriller actress Julianne Moore (I think she sucks in this genre anyway), Mark Ruffalo, Gael Garcia Bernal, Danny Glover and Alice Braga make-up the cast.

Looks sickly as ever. I don't know why but there is something about the way this guy makes movies that I really don't like. I'm getting a Children ...

The next movie from Martin Scorsese has for an undisclosed reason suffered (that being the operative word here) a name change from the original SHUTTER ISLAND (which is the name of the 2003 Denis Lehane book it is based upon) to ASHECLIFFE. It's unknown at this time why Paramount went ahead and changed the name but we do know where it originates.

ASHECLIFFE is the name of the asylum that is located on the fictional Island on the harbour of Boston, where in the film U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels (DiCaprio) is investigating the disappearance of a murderess who escaped from the hospital and is believed to be hiding somewhere on the Island.

It's unknown at this time whether Michelle Williams is still on board after the events of the last week, but there's nothing officially confirmed at this time. Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley and Patricia Clarkson as we've previously reported are all cast, making their debuts in a Scorsese picture.

Love the idea of the movie and Scorsese giving us a straight out serial killer thriller in the vain of his CAPE FEAR remake is exciting but ASHECLIFFE. What is up that that title Marty?
