M. Night Shyamalan has begun casting THE LAST AIRBENDER. Yes amazingly Paramount Pictures have kept faith with the much maligned filmmaker after possibly the most embarrassing Summer blockbuster in years with this summer's THE HAPPENING.

Something tells me they will be keeping a very close eye on this movie through every stage of production. This one will have a big budget, they can't allow M.Night's ego to run away with him here because they are hoping to have a high profile trilogy spawned from this movie.

From EW...
After an open casting call in Texas, Shyamalan discovered karate star Noah Ringer and offered him the part of Airbender's 12-year old hero, Aang, an Avatar with superpowers who must stop the Fire Nation from destroying the world. Twilight's Jackson Rathbone has been asked to play Aang's pal Sokka, while Nicola Peltz (Deck the Halls) will star as his sister Katara. Genial singer Jesse McCartney, meanwhile, is negotiating to play against type in the role of the Fire Nation's evil prince Zuko.
/film have taken the trouble of taking character/actor comparison photo's, which is very useful and you can find that HERE.

THE LAST AIRBENDER, based on the popular Nickelodeon T.V. series will be released on July ...

I think I speak for the majority of OWF readers when I say, "START WRITING THE DAMN THING THEN"!.

Several times this year M. Night Shyamalan has been talking about how much we still wants to have a crack at a sequel to his 2000 comic book thriller UNBREAKABLE.

He's done it again this week with Sci-Fi Wire...
"I want to write it right now, but I want to write it for the right reasons. I want a story to pop into my head that is organic and expressive of who I am. You know, these are all kind of journals of where I am emotionally, so it's kind of hard. I'm kind of trying to go back to the journal that existed in 1999 for me. But I know me: As soon as I give up on it is when the idea will come to me. It's just I need to go into therapy; I guess that's the end of that answer to this."
Again, I think I speak for all of us when I say we want the M. Night Shyamalan of 1999 back.

Shyamalan will next direct THE LAST AIRBENDER, the adaptation of the popular Nickelodeon Cartoon, the first movie he will ...

Today we're obsessed with the fact that M. Night Shyamalan has not yet put to bed his desire to make his UNBREAKABLE sequel, a movie he originally planned to follow-up with at the turn of the century but was knocked back when critics weren't so kind to his original picture eight years ago.

Though I couldn't help but think that the dislike came from an agenda to knock Shyamalan back after his SIXTH SENSE took off like wildfire and grossed $672 million worldwide. Simply put, in their eyes he could never match that first film.

Speaking to MTV, Shyamalan says he gets asked about an UNBREAKABLE 2 all the time...
“I tell you I get asked about it all the time, so it’s not [an idea] I ever forget,” Shyamalan told MTV News. “I genuinely just asked this question the other day — should I make ‘Unbreakable 2’?”

“I do love the [comic book movie] genre, I just wanna make sure that I’m able to express who I am,” explained Shyamalan. “I don’t want to get so lost in the subject that I have to neuter everything that’s me in it, so maybe ‘Unbreakable’ is the comic book thing I should do — I ...

I fear that M. Night's ratio of good/bad movies will finally go back to being balanced after The Happening.

The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and to a lesser extent though I still thought it was good Signs - thumbs up.

The Village, Lady in the Water - massive thumbs down.

Maybe when he is 3 for 3 - his career will go back in the other direction.

Here's the international poster for The Happening. Now has everyone jumped off and committed suicide in order to avoid seeing M. Night's movie in theatres? And what's with the red shadow - don't tell me there's another big twist on the horizon?

June 13th is the day both The Happening (which the plot by the way is that people start killing themselves for no reason) starring Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Deschanel and the even worse looking The Incredible Hulk are released. Save your cash that week, me thinks!

The titanic ego of M. NIGHT SHYAMALAN has cursed his every move in recent years. The blossoming promise shown in his earliest films has disintegrated before the bewildered eyes of moviegoers everywhere. The trust is broken, replaced by a palpable resentment. It's like admiring a charismatic uncle as a young person, only to go behind the shed one day to see him sodomizing a dead cat; the relationship never quite recovers.

It's an understatement to say that Shyamalan has a lot riding on his newest pseudo-intellectual horror film THE HAPPENING. After the twin disasters THE VILLAGE and LADY IN THE WATER, this new film needs to really click, or Shyamalan will find himself trying to sell his patented twist-ending stories on streetcorners for nickels.

Unfortunately he decided to title this make-or-break endeavor THE HAPPENING, one of the worst titles I have ever heard or imagined. Depending on my mood, the title sounds either pretentious, boring, or pointless. What the fuck is a "happening" anyway???? This title means so very little that it threatens to evaporate right off of the one-sheet.

Then uber-genius Shyamalan releases a trailer that features the characters using the word "happening" over and over again. "Something is happening," says a ...
