(Apologies to the distributors and to Simon for the late posting of this review. The editor's fault...)

The evolution of any movie career- particularly those that involve a successful beginning in television- is an intriguing spectacle. For the few that win sustained notoriety, thousands fall by the wayside, no matter how auspicious their beginnings. With Gavin & Stacey, James Corden and Mathew Horne struck comedy gold- the storylines, the humour and the pathos were just sublime and the series' two spell-binding seasons and Christmas specials easily stand shoulder to shoulder with The Office and Flight of the Conchords as the best comedy series of the past ten years.

Why they then had to follow their sitcom up with the terrible "sketch-show" formatted Horne & Corden is a total mystery to me, and could well have spelled the end of their flirtation with stardom, like the proverbial second experimental album spelling the end of a potentially huge rock act (Terence Trent D'Arby, know your shame). So, the success of their inevitable and often difficult transition into a big screen project on the back of a tenuous immediate track record looked less of a certainty as it may have had Lesbian Vampire Killers come out immediately following ...

“Look, I know something really wrong is happening here,” whines Fletch, arch-slacker and reluctant slayer of lesbian vampires. “But can’t we just ignore it?” You can say that again, mate! A horror comedy which is neither funny nor scary, LESBIAN VAMPIRE KILLERS seems destined for the scrapheap of cinema history.

Not that the film ever pretends to be anything other than a disposable exercise in exploitation, of course. It can’t with a name like that. In fact, its one saving grace is that it avoids taking itself seriously. This honesty about its own silliness, together with a 15 certificate and the current popularity of its leading duo (James Corden and Matthew Horne) might help LVK entice teenagers to the box office. But will it transcend its target audience?

Not likely. For starters, it’s difficult to build up enthusiasm for a step-by-step rehash of a plot that has already been done to death: ancient vampire curse, modern-day slackers who become action heroes, sexy and dim female victims running scared, fearful and traitorous villagers, small cottage in the midst of a dark forest, corny romantic sub-plot, showdown with the monster queen, etc. Everything in the film feels like it has been ticked off on ...

This guy has some balls doesn't he - Mr. Alex "The New Guy" Diaz in his first article for Obsessed With Film, without any fear he takes a dig at me, the messiah of OWF for not setting up a screening for him earlier for LESBIAN VAMPIRE KILLERS (he's seeing it Monday for free, the ungrateful git!), before he got to interview the lovely MyAnna Buring.

He's right of course. I should have made sure I pulled more strings... but professionalism my dear Alex. Professionalism! Let's not have this discussion in public. And besides, you got to call a hot chick, talk to her about Lesbians and for it to be classified as job, and not some seedy call service costing £1 a minute.

Ah, I'm only messing with ya mate. Welcome aboard (you bastard!!!!)
So, my first assignment for Obsessed With Film and I haven’t actually seen the film that the actress I’m interviewing over the phone is promoting. Granted, these are not ideal circumstances (do such things exist?) but the task was made much easier by Ms. Buring, who proved to be the personification of charm, warmth and enthusiasm despite a very busy PR schedule. Fifteen minutes doesn’t allow for much in-depth discussion but ...
