Damnit, I was late on this one, there's only mediocre seats left but still it could have been worse, I could have found out about the show after it was sold out.

Kevin Smith is doing his multiple hours long stand-up Q & A in London once again on Saturday October 10th at the Indig02 (is that what they are calling the Millennium Dome now?), and I've got tickets in Block 2, which means I might need some binoculars.

No word as to whether they are recording the gig as they did when Smith was in England a few years back, in a much smaller arena.

Now at this point, editorially, I should be posting a video of the London gig at the small venue but on second thoughts, his Twilight rant at the San Diego Comic Con (which starts at the 4 minute mark, but the whole thing is funny) was hilarious, and it wins out...

Tickets go on sale for Kevin Smith's new live concert, taking place June 17th 2009 in New York City at the world famous Carnegie Hall on Thursday Morning at 11am EST.

The sale won't be advertised by Carnegie Hall until April 20th. Buy them HERE.

Kevin Smith's Q & A's are funnier than 99% of the working comedians stand-up tours and are essential listening for film and comic book fans. He can tell a great story and is unusually honest about the working practises of both industries. If you need reminding why you should be buying these tickets right now, watch one of our recent Daily Vid entries.

Back in 1996, fresh off the groundbreaking success of his independent movie Clerks, young writer/director and New Jersey comic book owner Kevin Smith was approached by Warner Bros. to advise them on the studio's biggest in development project; a resurrection of the Superman franchise which had laid lament for ten years because of the poor reception to Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.

Warner Bros. had taken interest in Smith after his critically lauded draft for Chasing Amy, revolving around two comic book creators got into their hands and they, probably justifiably so, thought his opinion had useful value.

Smith told them in no uncertain terms that Gregory Poirier's script was "terrible" and that he "didn't get the Superman mythos" which worried Warner Bros. greatly. Not wanting to put their mult-million dollar franchise into the wrong hands and seeing Smith as a huge comic book fan, and the speaker of the audience they were hoping to reach out too, he was soon given the job to write a screenplay of his own.

Today's Daily Vid is Kevin Smith's hilarious re-telling of his time with Superman producer Jon Peters and how his Superman Lives, was doomed to fail from day one. The vid was taken from ...

Wednesday brought confirmation from Variety that this is indeed Kevin Smith's next movie but it will be titled A COUPLE OF COPS and not A COUPLE OF DICKS.

Once again, Smith has come victim of a studio pussy footing around the English language. You may remember, in some markets his last movie was called simply ZACK AND MIRI.

Anyway, Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan are also confirmed for the movie which now has a slightly longer plot synopsis...

"centered on a pair of cops who track down a stolen baseball card, rescue a Mexican beauty and must deal with gangsters and laundered drug money.

Kevin Smith, a better writer than director, that's the general consensus right?

I would agree but that's not a knock against Smith because I think he's a mega talented writer. I'm not saying he is a hack director, or even a failing one.

His last two movies CLERKS II and ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO have shown him grow as a filmmaker and I'm not surprised to hear reports today that he is lining up to direct someone elses script for the first time.

According to ERC Box Office (via /film), Smith has become attached to A COUPLE OF DICKS, a Warner ...

Whenever someone criticises Kevin Smith's direction in his movies, or lack there of it, Smith usually comes back with the defence that he is a way better writer than he is director. Or that he is a filmmaker and not a "director" per say, in so much that yes he tells stories on film but the depth is in the dialogue and tone rather than anything he does with movement or direction. And in the sincerest and nicest possibly way, I've always agreed with that.

Putting aside all the F***, C*** and S***'s., the bottom of the barrel and vulgar foul language in almost every scene of his films, when he is at his best there is a real story bubbling away at the core. For many, it fully came to the surface with his 1997 movie CHASING AMY and now with his latest movie ZACK AND MIRI MAKE PORNO, he has returned to the friendship vs. sexual politics theme and his solid writing and characterisation really makes it work again.

Maybe it's something to do with the economically scary state the world is in right now but you just simply can't help but relate to the down on their luck ...

Conflicting box office results for the two biggest releases of the weekend, one which is ruling the competition in the U.K. and one that is struggling in the U.S.

First... QUANTUM OF SOLACE which opened exclusively on Friday in the U.K. (no Thursday night advanced screenings) grossed $8 million (£4.94 million) on it's first day of release. This beats out HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE ($6.5 million) to become the biggest ever opening day gross in this country.

Previously, CASINO ROYALE grossed $4.7 million, so these totals just go to show how much love for that first movie has led to this huge sequel. And of course it's terrific advertising campaign which has seen several notable special t.v. appearances over the last fortnight, posters on virtually every bus in this country and it literally took over Radio 1 this week.

QUANTUM OF SOLACE opens in two weeks time in the U.S

Speaking of the U.S.... Kevin Smith's biggest budget movie to date ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO opened to just $2.3 million on Friday and according to Fantasy Mogul's Steve Mason won't hit higher than $7 million for the weekend.

The movie budgeted at $25 million and staring actual actors in Seth ...

My hatred for Kevin Smith is palpable. His mugging, formless face creeps into my nightmares ... the words he speaks in interviews cause me to grind my teeth in agony.

I'll give the guy some credit; he managed to make it in Hollywood by accident. The one film in his "collection" deserving of any substantial mention or praise - CLERKS, of course - was a foul-mouthed series of talking-head scenes that managed to find an audience due to its ultra-low budget. Smith did it just before video cameras and computers made it possible for anyone to do it, which is what made his achievement special while making what you and your friends filmed in your backyard just some home movies.

Which is precisely my point: nothing in CLERKS by itself achieved greatness, except that it was made on a shoestring. The acting is horrible, the direction is beyond artless, the sound is barely recorded, and the screenplay (the film's most celebrated quality) is self-consciously trying to shock. Nothing in the film transcends, other than the inspirational backstory of a bunch of losers who cobbled a film together with pocket change and made it.

Since the success of CLERKS, Smith has run the festival ...

I'm struggling to work out what is actually new in this trailer for ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO but I have to post about it, I loved CLERKS II... a huge step up for Kevin Smith in terms of direction, themes and just the overall visual look of his films.

And this looks to be the same and has some real weight it. Elizabeth Banks and Seth Rogen, two of the funniest actors around right now whose naturalistic style should suit Smith's dialogue down to the ground and make for a very likeable and enjoyable film.

The movie opens in the U.S. a week tomorrow (Nov. 14th in the U.K.) and it should make up for the lack of comedy on our screens this year (after TROPIC THUNDER and FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL.. has their been much else?). Trailer is below, see if you can spot what's new...

See it in HD at Myspace!

Thankfully, the trailer keeps the word "PORNO". With this and the R-Rating for SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE... just what is up with the world right now?

The word "Porno" has been removed from the major advertising for Kevin Smith's soon to be released comedy ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO.

The reason being The Weinsteins have had trouble convincing newspaper outlets and television stations to promote a movie whose title they believe their readers and viewers may find offensive. Even bus advertisements have been pulled because the word PORNO is deemed as “highly sexually suggestive and not suitable for general audiences.”

This new t.v. spot playing on U.S. screens is a testament to this...

AUSTIN POWERS: THE SPY WHO SHAGGED ME... anyone?

Surely that one is less appropriate than the word PORNO?

Take away the PORNO from the title and sadly the catch doesn't quite work as well. This kind of advertising could cost Kevin Smith's biggest budget film to date a substantial amount of money... who would be interested in a movie titled ZACK AND MIRI when it opens on Oct. 31st (U.S.) and Nov. 14th (U.K.)

One criticism of Kevin Smith has been his lack of ambition. Whether you like the guy or not, you can't deny he has done an amazing job at building himself up as having one of the most loyal fanbases in the industry right now and they have wanted to see him make a summer epic for quite some time, instead of continuing his low profile comedies with similar characters/situations.

He came close with SUPERMAN. He came close with GREEN HORNET. Now, is the time right for one of the most vocal STAR WARS fans in the world... to make a huge $50 million budget space comedy?

Of course as if we doubted it, The Hollywood Reporter say the film will reference the history of the sci-fi genre on film... most probably the works of George Lucas. "I am your father" may also make an appearance, as the movie will revolve around a father-son relationship, just like Lucas' epic did.

Smith is of course producing with his good friend Scott Mosier via their View Askew banner and The Weinsteins will no doubt get first option. Although Smith's script has been turned into them, the movie won't film until after Smith has done RED STATE... ...

And I mean, the drawing board! Stick men! Pretty neat and effective though, wouldn't ya say? Thanks to IMP Awards for this...

Expect to see the poster around your local cinema's in the next few weeks and the movie itself opens October 31st (U.S.). No U.K. date just yet.

VERDICT: Eye catching, but makes you think the movie will be a Sundance style Indie film and although I will give them credit because it's definitely been made under time constraints, I would say it's more of an angry poster than an effective one.

Matt here…

Unsurprisingly 20th Century Fox and Marvel are mulling over a revival of Daredevil, the character that they thought would easily join the high ranks of Spider-Man and X-Men as a third big "comic book to film money maker" back in 2003 but when they hired the wrong director (Mark Steven Johnson), it barely crossed the $100 million mark domestically (it was made for $78 million) and was more disliked than loved.

Though I will forever contend that Johnson's director's cut makes for at least an interesting watch. I would say he got more of the character right than wrong, and it wasn't so terrible like Ang Lee's Hulk or his own later mis-fire of Ghost Rider that a reboot is needed.

I still think the way to go is to put Ben Affleck back in the suit (as he made a good Matt Murdock, and he is older and wiser a performer now) and give Kevin Smith the reigns on it. I know those guys could save this franchise. It doesn't have to be a reboot, just make a sequel that stands-alone.

Talk of a Daredevil revamp has been on the agenda recently after the sometimes insane Frank Miller suggested he ...

The official red banded trailer has been released for Kevin Smith's next movie Zack and Miri Make A Porno and finally we get to see some really funny stuff for what I thought from day one was a very promising concept.

For the first time, Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks bring the chemistry you would think they had on paper to the big screen and their comedy doesn't look or sound awkward together. They work... just like Rogen and Heigl worked in Knocked Up.

And it looks like the killer sequence, of course, how did we not see this coming?, will be the porno Star Whores.

It had to be didn't it?

Craig Robinson who plays Darryl in The Office can make me crack up everytime with his casual style of line delivery.
And the giant leap in cinematography that Dave Klein took on Clerks II looks to have continued into this flick which looks really gorgeous. When Smith and Klein work together on a possible superhero/horror or another genre movie, I think you will really start to see Smith's talent and visual eye grow.
This movie looks hilarious. Oh and before I leave, here is a newly released poster for the film which has actually ...

I did enjoy Kevin Smith's small stint filling in as a film critic on Ebert & Roeper during the early days of Roger Ebert's illness, maybe there is a career for him there... going the opposite career direction of a Francois Truffaut.

Not only did he see and review The Dark Knight early but just last week he called Watchmen "fucking astounding" and now Smith, the uber geek, has seen the new Star Trek.

This is what he said as a guest on KROQ’s Kevin and Bean show (note it was obvious he couldn't actually come out and say he saw Star Trek), thanks to Trek Movie for the transcript...
It was phenomenal...The stars absolutely trek in this film. It is fantastic. Anybody who was worried doesn’t need to be worried–about this film I cannot talk about…It was in very capable hands. The director did a phenomenal job–the director and his crew. Top notch cast and the guy that plays the lead is an instant star. That dude is going to be so famous. He is so wonderful. He picked up a role that I would say is pretty challenging for someone to step into the shoes of, because it is a role ...

Writer/director/actor and all round comic book geek Kevin Smith says he is fortunate enough to be one of the few to have seen a rough but feature length screening of Zack Snyder's Watchmen and was all praise, comparing it to be as closely related to the comic book as Sin City.

“I saw Watchmen. It’s fucking astounding. The Non-Disclosure Agreement I signed prevents me from saying much, but I can spout the following with complete joygasmic enthusiasm: Snyder and Co. have pulled it off. Remember that feeling of watching Sin City on the big screen and being blown away by what a faithful translation of the source material it was, in terms of both content and visuals? Triple that, and you’ll come close to watching Watchmen. Even Alan Moore might be surprised at how close the movie is to the book. March can’t come soon enough.”
That statement certainly gives us that little push for extra hope. I know a lot of you loved the first trailer we saw a good number of weeks back but I wasn't completely blown away by it... probably putting the graphic novel on such a pedestal that this film adaptation could never compete.

But if there was ...

I always thought Daredevil was the one that really got away from Marvel. Here's a superhero, not to disimilar to Batman, who fights justice because of a childhood incident - but actually maybe goes one further than Batman by studying and putting away criminals behind bars with his work as a lawyer by day.

Matt Murdock never rests.

They got a terrific actor to play him in Ben Affleck five years ago but sadly they didn't choose the right director, though I'm of the opinion that Mark Steven Johnson's director's cut of the film was not without it's merits.

I can't believe at this point that Kevin Smith hasn't pitched for a sequel. Having wrote the character for the comic books, played a cameo in the original film and of course being tight friends with Affleck - I'm so surprised they haven't got this character back on the big screen where he deserves.

Maybe it's something they have in the pipeline for the future but by the sounds of things they are going to have to be quick. Fans at the Comic Con at the end of last month might have given Frank Miller the idea to reinvent the character himself, something he did ...

Kevin Smith screened his next movie Zack and Miri Make a Porno for the MPAA today who agreed that the movie should indeed be slapped with an R-Rating, and not an NC-17 as first suggested.

It's a massive decision for Smith because he had told press this week he would not be willing to make further cuts to the movie (we believe 12 minutes have already been lost) and would have then risked opening the movie with the kiss of death rating of NC-17, meaning no-one under the age of 17 could see the picture.

Currently the highest grossing NC-17 movie in history was Showgirls, a $20.3 million grossing flop of the mid 90's. According to IMDB, the budget for Smith's movie stands at $25 million... so clearly it would have taken a box office miracle for Smith to make a profit on the picture with that rating.

Starring Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks as a broke couple who decide to film themselves in an amateur porn money to make so much needed cash, Zack and Miri Make a Porno will open in October.

It's said that usually the most awkward part of shooting a porno is the dialogue scenes and not the close intimate fucking, which makes sense when you think about it as most porn stars aren't actors.

But when you have Kevin Smith shooting a porno with Hollywood stars Elizabeth Banks and Seth Rogen, two actors who can deliver dialogue as well as anybody... well you don't expect it to be as awkward and uncomfortable as this...

It wasn't that Smith's dialogue wasn't wholly unfunny, it's just again... and again... and again, it becomes tidious and boring. I could imagine Smith himself saying the lines and it being funny but Rogan just wasn't working with this was he, and as for Banks... WOW - Over-acting alert.

Such an uncomfortable scene, very reminiscent of their viral marketing spoof "I'm Fucking Seth Rogen".

These guys have zero chemistry, which is such a shame after the great bond Katherine Heigl and Rogen had in Knocked Up.

Maybe this might have worked if Smith swapped with Rogen - or Heigl swapped with Banks. These two just have nothing going together here.

In short: LOVE the idea for the movie. I LIKE all the talent involved. BUT everything they have shown me ...

USA Today have an article up talking about Kevin Smith's next movie Zack and Miri Make A Porno, speculating that audiences will stay away from the film because the word "porno" is in the title.

I kinda disagree. Remember Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, a $300 million+ worldwide just nine years ago?

If anything the title will help the film. After all, the main thing most guys use this fascinating invention known as the Internet is to view porn and that industry is still striving with DVD and now High-Definition DVD sales. And it's not like the R-rated comedies The 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up and Superbad where all big hits recently, all having an appearance from Seth Rogen - one of them with him in the lead.

Here's our first look at Zack and Miri Make A Porno, which stars Rogen and Elizabeth Banks as friends (not lovers) in desperate need of money who decided to shoot an amateur film and sell it to the neighbourhood to get out of their troubles. Presumably here they are scouting for their porno co-stars, or taking notes from a stripper...

"What's weird about it is, it's dirty. But it's so incredibly sweet," ...

Review by Matt Holmes

[rating: 4]

Clerks II is the sequel to the 1994 cult independent movie Clerks which made Kevin Smith famous and started the whole View Askew universe which has now spawned six movies in 12 years. This time Dante (Brian O'Halloran) and Randal (Jeff Anderson) work behind the counter of Mooby's fast food restaurant instead of the "Pit Stop" which we hear has been burned down in a fire. We find out that Dante is on the verge of leaving New Jersey for a new life in Florida with his rather dominating new fiancee Emma (Jennifer Schwalbach Smith, the director's real life partner).

Dante's pending move means the splitting of not only the life long friendship he has shared with Randal but also the complicated (and predictable) relationship he has with his manager Becky (star of the show performance from Rosario Dawson). On the outset they are exactly the same people they were 12 years ago, still barely managing to get ...
