Here we have NICK AND NORAH'S INFINITE PLAYLIST, or Exhibit A if you will. Exhibit A forms part of a body of evidence that JUNO has somehow changed the US film industry's idea of what anything targeted at teens should look and act like. With cast members headed by Michael Cera and Kat Dennings, the spearhead of the post-JUNO 'quirky movie' movement this was always going to be seen as a healthy young descendant of the original teen kook movie, but there's more than just the cast to suggest an affinity with this burgeoning brand that has sprouted movies including CHARLIE BARTLETT, SUPERBAD (technically on a par with JUNO in creating this shift), THE HOUSE BUNNY and more. The film focuses on a few unique individuals among the high school crowd, each with their own take on the world and each with their own personal gripes with the 'normals' around them. An interesting diversion from, or development from, this basis is that rather than challenge the system in a head-on 'aren't we different' kind of way, these outsiders have found themselves a niche New York: one which the film allows us to revel in.

The plot follows angst-ridden teen Nick and ...

The trailer for Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist is online, the next movie from the dangerously typecast Michael Cera whose woman of affection this time is The 40 Year Old Virgin's Kat Dennings.

The book from Rachel Cohn and David Levithan has a big legion of fans and although I was expecting something more along the lines of High Fidelity or a Cameron Crowe picture when the movie was first announced, I think we have ended up with... well I don't know what we have here.

But I kinda like it. A few moments that made me chuckle, especially the cab bit. This project is still groovy...

SEE IT IN HD HERE
You can see Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist from October in the U.S and 30th January in the U.K

I can't wait until the day when Robert Rodriguez's kids have grown into full adults, maybe then - just maybe - he will stop making these crappy kids movies.

That's not to say I or anyone else should be ruling his filmography and I wouldn't mind it at all if he was actually good at helming kids movies but the simple fact is he isn't. Kids movies don't suit him.

Variety report today that his next movie will be SHORTS, a kids comedy that will star (in the order they list) Jon Cryer, William H. Macy, Leslie Mann, James Spader, Jimmy Bennett, Kat Dennings and Devon Gearhart.
"Shorts" is set in a suburb where all the houses look the same and everyone works for Black Box, manufacturer of the ultimate communication and do-it-all gadget. Chaos follows when an 11-year-old boy is hit in the head with a rainbow-colored rock that grants wishes to anyone who holds it.

Rodriguez is serving as his own director of photography, editor and visual effects supervisor.
So it's the director we have seen from Spy Kids and The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl rather than the director of Sin City and Planet Terror.

Shame... but then again was anyone ...

Review by Michael Edwards

[rating: 3]

This is a tricky movie to decide where I stand, I have to say. So I'll begin with the description and see if I build some momentum by the end.

A high-school drama/coming-of-age comedy, CHARLIE BARTLETT tells the tale of the eponymous child (Anton Yelchin), a rich kid who is thrown out of a string of private schools before ending up in a dirty state school run by the down to earth but also a bit messed up Principal Gardner (Robert Downey Jr) and populated by equally messed up kids. After being sent to a shrink and prescribed ritalin for his zany behaviour, Bartlett has an idea which will finally fulfill his dream of being popular: he'll sell drugs at the school dance. When this goes down a storm he decides he should take it a step further, but at the same time try and be helpful, thus he starts up a psychology practice in the boys toilets, aided and guarded by ...

Looks like Sam Raimi's new horror movie has gone through a name change from Dragged to Hell to Drag Me to Hell. I think I preferred the first title - sounds just a little creepier.

So the official word from Variety is that Ellen Page dropped out of the "spook-a-blast" supernatural horror because of "scheduling conflicts". Her previous commitments to Mandate's Indie picture Peacock and Drew Barrymore's directorial debut Whip It forced her to drop out of the film and not because of her worries over the scripts final draft.
“We were racing to start production so that we could accommodate Ellen’s schedule,” Ghost House and Mandate said in a joint statement. “But like so many other productions trying to start before the potential SAG strike date, this one needed more time, and we had to push back the start of production.”
The new start date is March 31st in L.A which doesn't leave Raimi long to find a plucky young actress who the horror maestro can scare the bejesus out of. I doubt he will be able to find a Oscar nominee this late in the day but here's a couple of young contenders Raimi could be looking at...
