A lot of over-acting from a distinctly different looking John Travolta and the usual non-acting from Jonathan Rhys-Meyers stink up the B-movie action heavy FROM PARIS WITH LOVE, co-written & produced by Luc Besson (THE FIFTH ELEMENT, LEON) and directed by Pierre Morel (DISTRICT 13, TAKEN).

The movie is rumored to be budgeted at $55 million. Can't see this one performing to that standard based on the above trailer.

Review by Michael Kaminski

The life of Alexander the Great is such an ambitious and complicated subject matter that it would seem nearly impossible to translate it into a motion picture; the many sides to his personality, the vast cast of characters in his life, the complex political context he existed in, the immense scale of his life, and the uncountable deeds he did, tangled in a web of ambiguities, contradicting history, controversy and necessary interpretation. But if there is one person adept at tackling ambitious subject matter, it is Oliver Stone. Particularly suited to Alexander, he was in fact intimately familiar with the subject matter, having held a life-long personal interest in Alexander the Great. He sought to bring to the screen a portrait of the man that examined his personal life, without censorship, but that was also meticulously detailed and historically accurate, and on a scale that had been seldom seen in even the ...

The amazing search engine that is Google, tells me that British actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers was cast as MANDRAKE THE MAGICIAN in the movie adaptation of the B-list comic character that is currently in development with Chuck Russell set to direct.

Russell last directed THE SCORPION KING in 2002 but enjoyed his best success in the 90's with his adaptation of the dark comic book character THE MASK.

This news apparently was first reported on the web in late-April 2oo7, so today's news should be focused on the fact that UFC fighter Randy Couture has been added to the cast. But I need to talk about MANDRAKE on a whole because this is completely new information to me, I can't believe I missed it the first time around.

MANDRAKE THE MAGICIAN was a comic strip first written in the U.S. in 1934 by Lee Falk, a writer who is probably better known for creating the character THE PHANTOM, who himself got his own film in 1996.

Mandrake was an illusionist who could hypnotise characters in impossibly quick time and would fight crime. He would fight gangsters, mad scientists and aliens from outer space. The character has already been translated into a 15 minute serial ...
