Is it just me or does Ben Stiller like making unnecessary sequels that smell a lot more of the almighty dollar than of cinematic integrity? If it wasnt for the jug-eared goon's preposterous ability to till draw a sizeable box office and studios' perpetual desire to flog a cash horse until it is well and truly dead, films like Madagascar 2 and Meet the Fockers (as well as Merry Madagascar and Little Fockers no doubt) would never have been made. But, that would be way too simple and life just isnt that pleasant, so to add to the relative wave of Stiller sequels that neednt have been made comes Night At The Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian.

Continuing his predictable trend of playing characters who mix a lack of self-confidence with a "hilarious" temper that is likely to lost terribly easy, Stiller reprises the role of Larry Daley, the somewhat reluctant New York Museum of Natural History security guard, down on his luck and cynical as a result. But now Larry's gone all successful, running his own company that makes his own inventions, and out of the flash-light business for good... That is until he receives a call from diddy cowboy Jedediah (Owen Wilson) ...

Using his hard-earned comic credentials to direct a passion project, Judd Apatow's third written and directed effort Funny People, starring his old best friend and roommate Adam Sandler, is in many respects, exactly the story his filmography demanded from him at this point in time. It's a grown up effort. The third entry in a trilogy of "man-childs" movies after The 40 Year Old Virgin (first time having sex), Knocked Up (pregnancy) and now the life cycle is complete with a look into one's mortality, and a reflection of your journey up too that point and what you do if you had a section chance at life.

Hold on, is that a comedy I've just described. Well yes, Funny People is funny... at times. But dramatic too, even more so than the previous two in his canon.

It's also overtly too long, its running time would rival Magnolia - without the depth of content. Indeed some scenes go nowhere in particular, only present because Apatow’s love for his precious material is so apparent. However, it does not mean the audience will be so enamoured. The use of cameo appearances all feels rather needless (with the exception of Andy Dick, who comes out with the ...

Greenlit on April 3rd 2007, and still the best superhero concept I've heard this decade, the now titled Oobermind (previously the much better Master Mind) at Dreamworks Animation has gone through a rather unfortunate casting change.

Robert Downey Jr. has left as the voice of the lead - Will Ferrell replaces him. Still the intriguing premise remains.

Oobermind centers around idea of a super villain becoming depressed and fed up with life after accidentally killing his arch rival, the goody two shoes hero Metro Man (Brad Pitt, who replaces Ben Stiller) in the film’s opening scene. It’s the theme that has made the feud between Batman and The Joker so fascinating and was recently dissected with the end joust between Heath Ledger and Christian Bale in The Dark Knight. "You and I will be doing this forever" and the reason for that is, without one, you don't really have another. They are ying and yang. They give each other a reason to live - that's why The Joker has never killed Batman.

To fill the void left by Metro Man's death, Oobermind creates a new superhero, Titan (Jonah Hill), but it's more fun being the bad guy and he ends up being more ...

In her 1974 review of The Godfather II the influential film critic Pauline Kael stated that the only two sequels ever to improve on their predecessors were Huckleberry Finn and the New Testament. Since then films such as The Empire Strikes Back or Evil Dead 2 have belied the theory that follow-ups are never much good. Then we get something like Night At The Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian and it’s back to square one.

Against all odds the first Night At The Museum, released in 2006, was a fairly entertaining and funny adventure comedy. (Matt completely disagrees... his review from 17.12.06 being one of the earliest he wrote, calling it "enjoyable for 20 mintues, but goes flat really quickly, with a script that seems to have been churned out by a “scriptwriting 101″ manual").

The first Night at the Museum tells the tale of divorced father Larry Daley (Ben Stiller), an aspiring inventor/businessman whose failure to hold a steady job has led to serial disappointment for his son Nick (Jake Cherry). In order to win the kid over and prevent him from turning into a miniature version of his repellent stepfather Don (Paul Rudd), Larry becomes a night guard at New ...

The highly in demand British actress Emily Blunt has landed the female love interest role in Get Him to the Greek, the Forgetting Sarah Marshall comedy spin-off that stars Russell Brand (as Aldous Snow) and Jonah Hill (as his lakey).

Hill and Brand who had so many laughs together in last year's Judd Apatow produced comedy, will re-team on a road-trip from London to Los Angeles, where Snow is set to perform at the Greek Theatre. From the sounds of things, Hill plays a music executive who talks his way into accompanying Brand, and is not reprising his role as the waiter from Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Blunt will play a pop musician, who may duet with Brand on stage. Blunt has fantastic comedy timing and is a major coup for the picture.

Nicollas Stoller is once again directing and from the looks of things the movie will feature cameo's from famous popstars, including Christina Aguilera, Pink and Katy Perry. Forgetting Sarah Marshall was probably my guilty pleasure movie of last year and I thought Brand was terrific... but this time he's the lead and starring opposite Blunt could show him up if he's not at the absolute top of his game.

Joining the sequel to the $574 million worldwide hit are a lot of new faces. Bill Hader (above) as Gen. Custer and the "far too good for this material" Amy Adams as Amelia Earhart (below). According to USA Today, Stiller and Adams provide the romantic comedy aspect of the sequel...

A much slimmer Seth Rogen, losing the weight fast for his role as the action/hero THE GREEN HORNET, features in the poster for the third directed movie from Judd Apatow (THE 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN, KNOCKED UP), the semi-autobiographical FUNNY PEOPLE.

The Universal Pictures comedy/drama which is only a few weeks into filming finds Adam Sandler as a seasoned stand-up comedian who is diagnosed as being terminally ill. His desire to form a true friendship, see's him take a very green performer (Rogen) under his wing.

It promises to be sweet, sad, uplifting and funny with a true moral message. Just like every Apatow film then!

Co-starring are the usual Apatow crew, his real life wife Leslie Mann and Jonah Hill, along with two newcomers to the universe, Eric Bana and Jason Schwartzman.

One wonders why they are getting the promotion out this early for the film, I didn't expect to see anything until at least February. Especially during filming! Wonder how much dropping the weight changes Rogen's attitude and whether it effects his humor!

Eric Bana has been confirmed as one of the leads in Judd Apatow's semi-autobiographical film about stand up comedy titled Funny People. Bana, a former stand up himself will be playing the husband to Leslie Mann (Apatow's real life wife), so you could justifably say Bana is playing Apatow in the movie.

Variety say that Jason Schwartzman and Jonah Hill (what a suprise) have also joined the cast, which is toplined by Adam Sandler and also Seth Rogen. Plot details are still being kept hush hush, though it's believed that it focuses on a comedian who has suffered a near death experience.

Production begins mid September on the Universal and Columbia Pictures film due out next year, which marks the third written and directed material from Apatow after the brilliant Knocked Up and The 40 Year Old Virgin.

Wilson claims he hasn't read the script and that it will probably be nothing more than a cameo...

Shia LaBeouf will return as Sam Whitwicky as a now college student, with the role of his roomate still un-cast after Superbad actor Jonah Hill turned them down. Aussie actress Isabella Lucas joined the cast a few weeks back, possibly as the new eye candy of the film replacing Megan Fox.

Speaking to MTV, funny-man Jonah Hill says that he has very much left it open for Johnny Depp to cameo in 21 Jump Street, Hill's strange remake of the later 80's teen cop show which propelled Depp into stardom.
“We have an awesome thing for [Johnny] Depp, if he’ll do it,” Hill enthused. “I don’t know if he will or not, [but] it’s going to be rad!”
The only problem of course being that Depp does not do cameo's. If you take a scrowl through his CV I don't think there is one cameo ever to his name, so unless Hill's cameo is out of this world or unless Depp fancies a bit of nostalgia then I can't see it happening.

Hill is still currently writing the feature and he also told the site that if his final product wasn't up to scratch then he wouldn't film it.

Hill also lets us know that he was the one who turned down the sidekick role in the Transformers sequel and not the other way around...
“I just think like I have to prove myself more in what I’m doing now, making comedies and stuff before I do the big action movie or something, you know? I’m ...

Best known for being the show that kick started Johnny Depp's media blitz that made him one of the most well known and popular young actors of the early 90's, the hour long teen police drama 21 Jump Street is the latest American t.v. show to get the big screen treatment say EW.

It would appear Jonah Hill is in talks to write, co-executive produce (both those confirmed) and possibly star... in a new version for Sony. According to IMDB - Hill has never produced or written anything to date.

Neal Mortiz (I Am Legend) and the series original creator Stephen J. Cannell will produce.

The series, which ran from 1987 to 1991 on Fox, centered on a group of young cops whose youthful appearance allowed them to work undercover in high schools and colleges and search out troubled kids.

I don't believe the show was ever a big thing in the U.K. - at least it wasn't in my household. I've never seen an episode but from watching the brief intro here it's strange to think what a Jonah Hill remake would turn out like.
Hollywood is just so unpredictable to follow sometimes...

EW, the very source who broke the story of talks between actor Jonah Hill and Paramount over a sidekick role in the Transformers sequel - are today also the place to tell us that those talks broke down and he won't be in the final feature after all.

No word has been given as to why. Maybe they didn't offer him enough, the role wasn't big enough or whatever.

But the truth is he won't be in the picture.

Word is though he will cameo in the Night at the Museum sequel due out next year May which will just once again confirm to my girlfriend that yes indeed, Jonah Hill seems to just float in and out of movies without much fanfare.

Transformers 2 is expected to begin shooting soon (if it hasn't already) once again under the direction of Michael Bay - with Shia LaBeouf and the majority of the previous cast (no word on Megan Fox yet though) back and so far only Aussie hottie Teresa Palmer as a newcomer.

So, I saw the hilarious Forgetting Sarah Marshall last week (which I think is the funniest film in at least three years) and the moment Jonah Hill popped up for his supporting role, my girlfriend goes - "that guy is in everything... is he like the American version of Russell Brand - does he just play himself on screen, is he famous?".

Which I think does sum up Jonah Hill's career thus far. He has pigeon-holed himself with a certain character which he does play very well it has to be said but the more he will do this type of role, the less easy it will be for him to break out in the future.

But the money from this film will keep him going for a while.

EW say Jonah Hill is in early talks to join the Michael Bay sequel to his Transformers movie. It's said he will provide the comic relief as a sidekick to Shia LaBeouf's character... possibly as a college roommate. In the first movie LaBeouf kinda did both roles himself, so now he can give some of the comedic lines to Hill.

The Dreamworks/Paramount movie will begin filming this summer, probably June - for a release next ...

Last night I saw Forgetting Sarah Marshall at my local cinema and it's hands down the funniest film I've seen in years. It might be the funniest movie since The 40 Year Old Virgin.

Remember when you saw Superbad and those first 15 minutes were absolutely killing your stomach because you just couldn't stop laughing and then it kinda went a bit south for the rest of the film only peaking back up again in a few brief moments? Well Forgetting Sarah Marshall is hilarious for about 90% of the time.

It's clunky, very badly cut together but man... if Jason Segel doesn't win you over with the almost unforgivably pathetic character he has written for himself, or if you don't fall badly in love with Mila Kunis everytime she smiles or just plain laugh out loud at least a million times then I don't know what will do it for ya.

It's not as poignant as Knocked Up but I say the future of the rom-com is looking extremely bright with this Judd Apatow crew and it's a resurrecting movement in cinema which is extremely welcomed. For too long women have enjoyed exclusive female rom-com's that would star the likes of Meg ...
