My guess is that Disney have modeled the new Johnny Depp poster for Tim Burtons' Alice in Wonderland on the theme park itself, the castle in the background and the colour scheme, very reminiscent of what it's like looking at the Cinderella castle from a distance.

Two further posters released this week for the movie, which I found at /film...

Put them all together and it will look something like this...

Fabulous imagery, great concept for a poster and is anyone of the impression that this money ain't gonna make a ton of cash next May?

It's gonna be one of next year's biggest hits. This won't have that Christmas Carol syndrome. This one will be huge!

Another switch-a-roo but this one would indicate that The Tourist, now surely an A-list project, won't have any problems finding a male and female audience come the time of it's release in 2011. In a way it's going to become the ultimate date movie. No guy is going to complain about seeing an Angelina Jolie action vehicle with his woman, and every girl of a certain age will flock to see Johnny Depp in a sexy thriller.

Put them together and your box office will explode. It's set to the be the biggest on screen male/female pairing since Jolie and Brad Pitt's Mr. and Mrs. Smith earned nearly $500 million worldwide in 2005.

Production is set to begin in February... extra security will be needed on sets to keep the hordes away, I'd say.
The biggest female star on the planet to
team with Hollywood's most popular actor
amongst the female demographic.
The Tourist is the Hollywood remake of the 2005 French thriller Anthony Zimmer and to say it's had a troubling year of pre-production would be kind, really. Angelina Jolie recently replaced Charlize Theron as the female interpol agent who uses an American tourist (now Depp), so that she can get rid of an ...

It was more than just hinted at with the final scene of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Disney smacked it right into your cranium. It was as blatant as the Joker calling card in Batman Begins.

Pirates of the Caribbean 4 will deal with Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow searching for the mythical Fountain of Youth. We've known it for some time, so I don't want to see any more stories speculating on what's gonna keep Jack Sparrow busy for his fourth adventure.

This is the final one as far as I'm concerned. Jeff Wells at Hollywood Elsewhere says
The thumbnail plot for Jerry Bruckheimer's Pirates of the Caribbean 4, a connected friend confides, is a search by Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and other parties for the fountain of youth.
What we can discuss, speculate and dissect is a probably over-arching plot dealing with our characters searching or stumbling across of the lost city of Atlantis.

Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean 4 starring Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush (as Captain Barbosa) films next Spring for a projected 2012 release. Last we heard Chicago's Rob Marshall had entered talks to direct.

Much more Heath Ledger than I expected in the long awaited trailer for The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, a movie that OWF's Simon Gallagher analysed almost frame for frame at the Cannes Film Festival, a movie he says is one of "Gilliam's best".

And when he says "Gilliam's best", that actually means something, compared to if I had said "Gilliam's best" as I am most certainly not a fan of his output for the most part, with a couple of exceptions.

Lionsgate will open the film this October in the U.K., and if your anything like me then there's nothing much more than a curiosity for seeing Heath Ledger's last performance that warrants seeing this - which by the way, judging from the trailer contains a post-The Dark Knight confidence that it's heartbreaking to think we won't now see grow and grow into bigger and more significant parts.

@ Yahoo! Video

After the jump, an excerpt from Simon's review...

... at one point I began to dread the moment in the film where it would become obvious that Ledger had died (the appearance of Johnny Depp, Jude Law or Colin Farrell effectively sounding the death note) which tainted even the most fantasticalGilliam-inspired scenes. This is the hand that fate ...

Lord knows how you go from directing the Oscar winning Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha, and the bound to be nominated for something Daniel Day-Lewis musical Nine - all the way to the overblown, overhyped, and over staying it's welcome Pirates of the Caribbean franchise but that seems to be the state of play regarding the fourth movie in the series right now.

Variety say director Rob Marshall is ready to steer the billion dollar ship after series director Gore Verbinski jumped to Universal's adaptation of the video game Bioshock earlier this year and never attempted to come back on board when that vessel sunk.

My question is who approached who? Did Marshall go to Disney or did Disney go to Marshall, because the answer to that question might just be significant. I'll explain...

If Disney went to Marshall with the offer for POTC 4, then they were basically turned down by a handful of other names (I always thought National Treasure's Jon Turteltaub, currently in post on The Scorcerer's Apprentice would have been an easy hiring) or they clearly had no idea of who to replace Verbinski with.

If Marshall went to them, then my hope is he is a fan of the pirate genre and the ...

Back in November, mega Disney producer Jerry Bruckheimer claimed that a Pirates of the Caribbean 4 was being geared up for a 2012 release and that Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush had both already signed on for a fourth roll of the swashbuckling dice.

Franchise director Gore Verbinski however had not made any such deal, deciding to make the epic Bioshock at Universal instead of returning for another paycheck gig.

But two significant things have happened over the summer which has changed the situation somewhat...

1) Gore Verbinski's Bioshock hit major Halo-like trouble at Universal and has been put on indefinitve hold, so he's now more likely to return if Disney show him the money.

2) Disney are pushing real hard for the fourth movie to shoot quickly. They don't wanna waste anytime with it.

Both factors I dare say, have led to this confident, bold announcement from Disney’s Head of Production Oren Aviv at the San Diego Comic Con...
“We’re going to shoot Pirates 4 in April and May of next year,” Aviv said. “We are going to release it hopefully in 2011.”
Aviv is hoping the 4th movie will be the catalyst of a new "trilogy" (surprise, surprise) and, according to his quotes, "I want to kind of ...

Once Tim Burton is finished with Alice's quest down the rabbit hole, he will be taking his Mad Hatter Johnny Depp, and his Sweeney Todd writer John August to the 60's world of spooky soap opera's, with the cult gothic horror Dark Shadows, the adaptation of the daily ABC serial that ran for five years, amassing 1,225 episodes.

Depp will play Barnabas Collins, the self-loathing and tortured vamp patriarch of the series who Depp idolised, and became obsessed with as a child. Yes girls, Johnny Depp as a vampire. Doesn't that excite you?

Though it's old news that all three men would be working together on this film (John August has been writing the screenplay for Depp and Burton for a good while now), it's nice to finally have more confirmation that the movie will be Burton's next after Wonderland. Or at least, "that's the plan" as the official quotes cite him from the SDCC.

After the jump, more on Dark Shadows and how it fits in as a "Tim Burton" film...

All the staples of the Burton formula are here, as the show regularly featured werewolves, ghosts, zombies, man-made monsters and witches, and it's use of atmosphere and outlandish characters was it's hallmark. The show sounds like it very ...

“Dillinger was popular for a very good reason", said director Michael Mann during a packed press conference at the ballroom of the Berkley hotel, I attended this week for Public Enemies (my review here).
"In Chicago alone in 1933, of 166 regional banks 140 had failed. Unemployment wasn’t 8%, it was 25%. One in four were hungry and cold and miserable, and most people blamed the banks. So Dillinger is stealing from the banks and he’s sharp enough to know that he has to treat hostages well, because he knows they’re all going to be interviewed on the radio.”
I studied History at Cambridge University, home to what is widely considered as one of the best History faculties in the world. I say this not only to blow my own trumpet, but also to put Mann into perspective. This guy gave one of the best oral overviews of a historical period I have ever witnessed.

It’s no coincidence that Mann was attracted to Dillinger. He’s a native Chicagoan who during his youth regularly visited the Biograph cinema, outside which the outlaw was gunned down. More importantly, Dillinger is the very definition of the prototypical Mann hero: a consummate professional.

To use Mann’s own words, ...

“We’re havin’ too good a time today, we ain’t thinking about tomorrow”, states the 1930s outlaw John Dillinger, played by Johnny Depp, in Public Enemies. “No future”, wailed Johnny Rotten in 1977. “Carpe Diem”, as the Ancient Romans would have put it. The sentiment is the same throughout the ages. All that changes is the tone.

It’s that fatalistic yet brave take on life which distinguishes the generation which came up in the interwar period, a generation symbolised to some extent by Dillinger. In the 1930s “little people” all over the world took absolutely everything the Devil could throw at them – economic crisis, a stark choice between unemployment and slave wages, and the worst wars the world has ever witnessed – and generally managed to get through it all with their humanity intact. Reminding us of that is one thing Michael Mann’s new film deserves to be praised for.

Although far from perfect, Public Enemies has much else to recommend it. Its view of the Dillinger myth is very similar to the one offered by John Milius’s Dillinger (1973) – perhaps even excessively so. In both films Dillinger is the main focus of attention and is portrayed as a worthy ...

Michael Mann's Public Enemies, which I saw last night with a tough late teen/early 20's crowd whose only mumbled reaction their limited mindset could churn out was "that was boring", is in actual fact a refreshingly original and exhilarating depiction of the 1930's era of Chicago gangster crimefare, a welcomed treat to a junk filled summer.

A movie that left me in shock and awe during several of it's more dramatic and action set pieces, on the edge of my seat at least once and even left me questioning life's morality by the end.

Not bad going for an early July blockbuster, but in truth, it's a modern American classic and a real Oscar contender that should never open in the scorching heat of the summer because despite the marquee attraction of it's cast, this is never going to be a mainstream crowd-pleaser.

Sure it's got Hollywood hearthrob Johnny Depp once again playing the bad guy who refuses to conform to the rules of the world and naturally becomes the man we pin our hopes on (Sweeney Todd, Pirates of the Caribbean) and yeah it's got ladies favourite Christian Bale as a single-minded, aggressive detective who will use everything in his power to take ...

Astonishing promotional photo's and artwork have been released by Walt Disney Pictures at USA Today, showing off the first official glimpse at three major fantasy characters in Tim Burton's motion captured 3-D animated adaptation of the much loved Lewis Carroll fable Alice in Wonderland.

What kind of deranged artist makes your best friend and your wife look like this? Tim Burton, that's who...
JOHNNY DEPP AS THE MAD HATTER!!!

HELENA BONHAM CARTER AS THE RED QUEEN

And then finally....
ANNE HATHAWAY AS THE WHITE QUEEN

What I didn't realise before I had read the article at USA Today is that Burton's movie is kind of a sequel to Carroll's fable, in that a now 17 year old Alice (Mia Wasikowska) makes a run for it after she finds out she is about to be proposed to in front of a large high society group of snobs.

She once again falls down the rabbit hole and arrives back in Wonderland, a place she last visited ten years ago. She doesn't remember her visit to Wonderland but The White Rabbit remembers her, and the creatures of Wonderland are hoping she will help them in their revolt.

That sounds more interesting than a simple re-imagining, and will hopefully lead to new character ...

I'm not one to usually feel sorry for myself because I don't believe it really gets you anywhere in the long run but I'm feeling it right now.

The fates are conspiring against me. I had arranged to see Public Enemies on Tuesday, at what may or may not be the first critics showing of the film anywhere in the world, a screening I have worked tirelessly at making sure I get a place at along with Simon.

We've arranged our travel down there (rail tickets are shockingly expensive these days) and tomorrow night as a prelude we were gonna see the Ghostbusters Blu-Ray celebration, which should be mighty fun.

The two day break was too be a glimpse at the kind of daily life we would have if we/when we actually move to the capital and do this full time.

And more than that, it's a look at one of the most anticipated movies of the summer. We were even teased with the possibility of interview time with Johnny Depp and Michael Mann ...

Status: Out of Competition

For the second time in a little over 48 hours I find myself confronted by a film that is so much an expression of its director's artistic manifesto that its identity is difficult to remove from his own. Terry Gilliam, like Tarantino, asks his audience to buy into his ethos: to accept that the film he is presenting is not necessarily going to be a commercial or critical success, but that it remains true to what he has set out to achieve across his whole canon of work. In that respect the film does not disappoint- Gilliam creates a familiar dream-scape mixed with garish pallet and sweeping surrealist bursh-strokes, and he doesnt go as far as letting such a trivial thing as the traditions of narrative get in the way. For this director at least, the story is merely a way for the audience to buy into Gilliam's imagined world, to marvel at his artistic vision, and allow themselves to be taken over by the escapist fantasy of the film. The fact of the matter is, even the most ardent Gilliam fan couldnt really tell you what Brazil is about, or offer any kind of evaluation of Fear ...

When news broke on 13.05.09 that Martin Scorsese, a master statesman of biopics with Raging Bull being the best ever (who wants to argue that?) and The Last Temptation of Christ (yes a biopic of Christ) and The Aviator being stellar efforts, was to undertake a re-telling of the glorious life of Frank Sinatra there was only one actor we all expected to end up with the gig.

Leonardo DiCaprio, naturally.

He has been Scorsese's 21st century muse and has worked with the actor on four movies straight and just like a by-gone era when everybody expected Robert De Niro to star in the new Scorsese movie, everyone now-a-days expects DiCaprio to follow Marty. And I dare say even Scorsese thought so himself when he first became interested in the project.

However Universal, the studio that has acquired Field of Dreams screenwriter Phil Alden Robinson's script for the appropriately titled Sinatra for Scorsese to direct are said to be keen on someone else and Scorsese may be easy to sway their way given the caliber of the actor. Nikki Finke say after being so impressed by his period performance as notorious gangster John Dillinger in Public Enemies (released 01.07.09), the studio are hellbent on wanting Johnny Depp to fill the boots ...

Mike Newell, currently helming Disney's big 2011 tentpole Prince of Persia with Jake Gyllenhaal has impressed the big mouse so much with his work so far that he is said to be in talks to direct The Lone Ranger, a franchise Disney see as being as big and as profitable to them as Pirates of the Caribbean.

Not least because it comes from the writers who made the Disney ride into a billion dollar franchise but also because they have secured Jack Sparrow himself... Johnny Depp to play the sidekick Toto, and they have set their eyes on George Clooney to play the Lone Ranger. Another billionaire team, do we dare predict?

Newell's credits include the big tentpole picture Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and he would seem to be a safe and solid choice. He has also already worked with Depp on Donnie Brasco, so there is already a working relationship there.

POTC director Gore Verbinski who I always thought would end up with this gig probably burnt his bridges when he turned down the chance to direct Pirates of the Caribbean 4. Interesting to see if The Lone Ranger of POTC 4 gets out of the blocks first for Depp.

Three's the lot for director Gore Verbinski, the man behind the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise who quite rightly, has loftier ambitions than making movies with Disney swashbucklers for the rest of his career.

Variety say Verbinski has left the POTC franchise to make Bioshock, the Universal Pictures adaptation of the Xbox 360 game as his next movie, based on a script by John Logan (Sweeney Todd, The Aviator). He first came attached to that project back in May of last year.

The move puts a huge dent in Disney's upcoming tentpole schedule as they were expecting to make Pirates of the Caribbean 4 next Summer, with Johnny Depp already ready to roll as the leading man. But Verbinski's pull out, which hardly can come as a shock to Disney (after all, he's attached himself to enough projects in the last year to keep him busy for a long while), may delay or permanently anchor the POTC franchise.

Though the latter seems less of a possibility, because the trilogy has so far grossed $2.6 billion. Disney won't give up on that cash cow easily.
"I had a fantastic time bringing 'Pirates' to life, and I am eternally grateful to Jerry, Johnny and the rest ...

MSN Movies have released the first official poster for Michael Mann's PUBLIC ENEMIES, the re-telling of the life of notorious gangster John Dillinger, a Jesse James/Robin Hood-esque figure that will be embodied by Johnny Depp...

The tommy gun, the suit, the leather gloves, the pose, the chicago background. It reminds me so much of one of my favourite posters of last year...

Which in turn, Heath Ledger's pose reminded me of the great James Cagney, the greatest actor from the classic era of gangster movies...

And of course you know where I'm going, Cagney led the famous 1931 gangster flick THE PUBLIC ENEMY, which actually wasn't based on Dillinger BUT was set in the Chicago underworld and was based around a Dillinger-esque figure.

On a serious note... I'm disappointed to see that Depp looks more like Depp than Dillinger. You know what I mean? This is clearly a Johnny Depp starring vehicle and is worryingly being marketed as a blockbuster action vehicle.

I thought Depp had a great chance at a defining performance in this movie and I still think he can but I don't want him to do a Tom Cruise/MISSION IMPOSSIBLE thing. Where is basically playing himself on screen.

Having said that, I have high ...

You can see the rest of the 400 HERE (though site seems to be offline right now).

First Showing claim these shots are from a recent re-shoot in Illinois conducted by director Michael Mann with his star Johnny Depp.

No word on how extensive these were BUT we do know the unfinished film has already screened for audiences... so it could have come from how that showing went down.

PUBLIC ENEMIES opens July 1st (U.S.) and July 3rd (U.K.) and stars Depp as the notorious gangster John Dillinger. Academy Award winner Marillon Cotillard plays his love interest.

Christian Bale plays the F.B.I man hell bent on hunting him down.
