NARC and SMOKIN' ACES director Joe Carnahan will helm THE A-TEAM at 20th Century Fox according to Variety.

He will replace John Singleton (FOUR BROTHERS, SHAFT) who bailed on the project last year because of the constant script re-writes. Since Singleton left, Skip Woods (SWORDFISH, HITMAN) has been re-drafting from scratch but Carnahan has brought on actor and friend Brian Bloom to re-draft further. The new release date of June 20th 2010 put in place (it was originally due out this June).

June 2010 is of course less than a year and a half away so expect Carnahan and Fox to quickly ramp up the pre-production on this project quickly.

To help that will be Tony and Ridley Scott who are on board as producers as is the show's original creator Stephen J. Cannell, just adding that extra bit of manpower to make sure this adaptation gets made this time.

The idea is to use the original premise of the series as the template for an action film.

Of course the biggest irony of all ironies is that Carnahan, like the so far ill fated big movie adaptation of THE A-TEAM has himself seen many projects fail over the years. You could probably count on ...

Director John Singleton has exited THE A-TEAM... Variety claim he departed because 20th Century Fox wanted to go through even more re-writes to a script that has already seen several drafts.

Singleton, getting frustrated... said to hell with it. The movie has now been pushed back from a June 2009 bow to a June 2010 release.

I guess we should have seen this coming as the movie has no cast and was never going to be wrapped for it's June 09 release in just 8 months time.

AICN wonder if an exec at Fox got the idea to go the overly comedic route with the project rather than them taking a sudden disliking to the script, citing the lack of good scripts the studio have put through recently (THE HAPPENING... BABYLON A.D... JUMPER...) as being an indicator that they don't shy away usually from greenlighting crap.

Or more simply put. It was crap to begin with, they knew it was and in a last ditch effort to save the project they will Ben Stiller it up!

More changes to Fox's forthcoming release schedule can be read HERE.

Sounding confident that the deal was done, CHUD got chance to talk to 29 year old American actor Tyrese Gibson (Transformers, Four Brothers) who spoke pretty openly about the upcoming John Singleton adaptation of The A-Team where he is heavily rumored to play B.A. Baracus - a character made the figurehead of the original program by Mr. T's overwhelming persona.

The site caught up with him on the set of his new movie Legion - a religious thriller starring Paul Bettany and Dennis Quaid...
He said that a mohawk is not out of the question, but otherwise he's excited to bring BA into the 21st century, so don't expect a ton of bling around his neck. The not in bad shape by any means singer/actor did mention that he'll be hitting the weights to prepare for the role, saying that the physique of the original is a lot to live up to.
Shall we say he sounds as confident as Ice Cube did some months back for the role?

Whether Gibson ends up in this movie or not, he still has a multitude of big parts up his sleeve. He will be expected to return for a Transformers sequel soon for director Michael Bay, ...
