In order to avoid a snagging feeling of déjà vu during screenings of new animated flick IGOR keep repeating “its only a kids movie, its only a kids movie, its only a kids movie!”

Otherwise it would be wise to completely avoid this cliché ridden children’s tale that unimaginatively re-works the plot motivation of both FRANKENSTEIN and its sequel BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN to nauseating effect, whilst finding time to lift a story arc and a dance number from ANNIE and lace the entire piece with sub CORPSE BRIDE horror aesthetics that don’t go anywhere close to capturing the same bleakly comic charm that Tim Burton made his own.

The setting is the thunderous Kingdom of Malaria (fancy that), a bleak and brooding netherworld which reinforces the bleak preoccupation that encourages misery and destruction through twisted mechanical inventions. In this world we learn there are two dominate strands of people that make up the population divide: severely twisted evil mad inventors (predominately voiced by John Cleese) and ‘Igors’, a servile class of gloomy, oafish, slurring hunchbacks who look forward to an aimless existence helping their masters to ‘pull the switch’ in their sordid laboratories.

A neat prologue quickly identifies this cruel class divide, setting ...

Amanda Peet, who played opposite John Cusack in the decent psychological thriller Identity AND in last year's Indie drama Martian Child - will be teaming with the actor again in Roland Emmerich's big disaster movie 2012.

In the movie she has the part of Cusack's ex-wife who is now newly married to a wealthy guy. Apparently Cusack plays a divorced father trying to become a writer while holding a job as a limo driver which goes against earlier reports of him playing an Academic Researcher.

The film revolves around a global apocalyptic event as predicted by the Ancient Mayans and the struggle to survive from the point of view of several Americans.

Cast for the film shapes up like this...

John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Oliver Platt and Thandie Newton.

After obtaining a good amount of supporting roles in the last four or five years, Danny Glover has seriously just hit the jackpot at 20th Century Fox.

He is in talks to play the U.S. President in Roland Emmerich's upcoming disaster film 2012 says The Hollywood Reporter.

Story centers on an academic researcher who opens a portal into a parallel universe and makes contact with his double in order to prevent an apocalypse predicted by the ancient Mayans.
John Cusack leads as the researcher, Chiwetel Eijofor has also been on board for a good number of weeks.

Joining them will be Thandie Newton (as the President's daughter) and Oliver Platt (as Vice-President) if talks go well.

Filming begins soon on the $200 million picture which is due out on July 10th 2009.

There's something very familiar about the plot details for 2012 - the next big summer epic from the director of the entertaining summer fluff's that were Independence Day, Godzilla, The Day After Tomorrow and Stargate.

And it's the last movie on that list 2012 shares the most similarities with.

Finally after three months of guessing (we all knew it had to be the Mayans with that title), Variety have the scoop on what is threatening the Earth this time...
Story centers on an academic researcher who opens a portal into a parallel universe and makes contact with his double in order to prevent an apocalypse predicted by the ancient Mayans.
John Cusack - whose career has been floundering for years now with HORRIBLE career choices, has agreed to lead the Columbia Pictures film. It will be a rare summer blockbuster movie for Cusack, an extremely likeable actor who has surprisingly and maybe because he plays neurotic characters so well, has never been given the chance on the tentpole stage before.

The awesome Chiwetel Ejiofor is also in final talks for the picture. Barring a writer's strike, both will be turning up to work in L.A. in July to begin shooting.

Emmerich has wrote the picture alongside ...

I'm not sold on the computer game like animation style and nor am I convinced that John Cusack is at all right for the voice of the lead but apart from that, Igor looks like fun.

I've always been fond of the plot - a new and knowing version of the classic Frankenstein fable whose twist of course is that it's from the point of view of the usual background character of Igor, the mad scientist's assistant.

This one comes from the Weinstein's company of animation but once again I might as well say it - Igor beats seeing another Shrek movie...

PULL THE SWITCH AND SEE IT IN HD!
Opening September 16th (UK) and October 17th (UK), Igor comes from director Anthony Leondis (STV Lilo & Stitch 2) and has a voice cast that includes John Cusack, Steve Buscemi, Eddie Izzard, Jennifer Coolidge, Jay Leno, John Cleese, Sean Hayes and Molly Shannon.
