Does The A-Team really carry with it a huge audience following to match the likes of the Star Trek, Die Hard, Indiana Jones, Ghostbusters, Transformers, Masters of the Universe or any of the other 80's pop culture franchises that have/or soon will bring around a flock of guys trying desperately to cling on to their childhoods?

You know of the people of whom I speak. The ones who recite the catchphrases at any given opportunity as if they are the first person on the planet ever to do so. They often wear the branded t-shirts because they think promoting something that was never particularly cool is now something that miraculously makes them cool to be a fan of.

Maybe I am simply to young to get caught up in it all, born only a brief while before the show was canned in it's fifth season but The A-Team pretty much means nothing to me outside of the figure of Mr. T who for a long while I presumed was just called Mr. T in the show too. I honestly don't believe I've ever seen a full episode.

After many, many aborted attempts, a plan has formed and The A-Team are on the way ...

Chris Pine is a smart young man. Not wanting to stay associated with the role of Captain James T. Kirk forever, a part that can grind to a halt the rest of an actor's career outside of the Trek universe, Pine has been self-publicising in order to get himself cast in other major Hollywood roles.

Because he knows once May 8th comes along, the Shatner curse will loom over him.

I'm betting Pine knew exactly what he was doing when he talked about the Green Lantern role with the press recently, just helping getting his name out there, trying to get studio's noticing him in association with a role. And he's doing it again this week with MTV, claiming that he has spoken with his director friend Joe Carnahan about his upcoming tentpole The A-Team, which Carnahan became attached to in January, an adaptation of the popular 80's action series that is due out next Summer from 20th Century Fox.

Naturally, your first instinct is to see Pine in the role of Lt. Templeton Peck, as he does have a striking resemblance to a younger Dirk Benedict. But rather surprisingly, Pine "loves Murdock" and he would "love" to step into the shoes of Dwight Schultz, as the ...

NARC and SMOKIN' ACES director Joe Carnahan will helm THE A-TEAM at 20th Century Fox according to Variety.

He will replace John Singleton (FOUR BROTHERS, SHAFT) who bailed on the project last year because of the constant script re-writes. Since Singleton left, Skip Woods (SWORDFISH, HITMAN) has been re-drafting from scratch but Carnahan has brought on actor and friend Brian Bloom to re-draft further. The new release date of June 20th 2010 put in place (it was originally due out this June).

June 2010 is of course less than a year and a half away so expect Carnahan and Fox to quickly ramp up the pre-production on this project quickly.

To help that will be Tony and Ridley Scott who are on board as producers as is the show's original creator Stephen J. Cannell, just adding that extra bit of manpower to make sure this adaptation gets made this time.

The idea is to use the original premise of the series as the template for an action film.

Of course the biggest irony of all ironies is that Carnahan, like the so far ill fated big movie adaptation of THE A-TEAM has himself seen many projects fail over the years. You could probably count on ...

Now this is either weird as shit crazy, the smartest actor coup ever pulled off between duelling projects or someone, somewhere, has got their wires terribly crossed.

CHUD are reporting that Edgar Ramirez will be Javier Bardem's replacement as the infamous Columbian drug cartel leader Pablo Escobar in Joe Carnahan's long time in development next movie Killing Pablo.

Which all things considered after his great turns in The Bourne Ultimatum, Domino and his big upcoming roles in the two Soderbergh biopics of Che Guevara, hardly seems a bad choice at all. The thing is Oliver Stone had already thought the same thing and had cast Ramirez for his version which Antoine Fuqua is directing!

So this is one story that you would instantly through out of the window as being NOT TRUE... someone clearly getting their wires mixed up somewhere but then you hear who CHUD's source was.

Joe Carnahan himself! He says...
"I spent the last week in Colombia with Edgar Ramirez talking 'Pablo' and he has every intention of portraying Escobar and I couldn't be more fired up by the prospect. He's coming at it with boundless enthusiasm, conviction to the role and and the understanding that he's going to have to pack ...

With the constant delays on Joe Carnahan's epic Killing Pablo, it's with little surprise today to report that star Javier Bardem has pulled out of the picture.

In fact, going one further than that Bardem has told Coming Soon that the scoop on him starring in the picture was " a mistake" from the start and that it simply "wasn't true" he was ever set to play Columbian drug lordr Pablo Escobar.

It's also unknown if Christian Bale is still attached to the project as the cop hell bent on tracking Escobar down. With the role being so similar to that of the role he plays in Public Enemies, one does have to wonder if he chose Michael Mann's project when it was obvious this one was some way off from being ready.

Meanwhile, as recently as July 31st, Joe Carnahan was scouting locations for the film and let everyone on his blog know that he hopes to begin shooting in the fall.

Suffering an eerily similar delay is the Oliver Stone produced and Antoine Fuqua directed Escobar, which looks at the exact same story of Escobar's rise and fall and has The Bourne Ultimatum and Vantage Point's Edgar Ramirez attached to lead.

That project ...

One of the great things about Joe Carnahan is that he runs his own blog, so he can keep us up to date on everything about his films, something I wish a lot of directors would do. Another good thing about him though is that he is a film fan at heart.

Do you remember his rant at America for not seeing Grindhouse, and telling us that "we will all pay the price" when the movie fails? Well he's back again, this time with his film fan hat on... to tell us about the Sin City 2 mock-up trailer he has apparently been shown by Robert Rodriguez...
“Robert Rodriguez stopped by the office yesterday and showed me what may become the teaser for ‘SIN CITY 2′ and HOLY SH*T is it something. I don’t want to let any cats out of any bags, so all I can say is there’s not a hetero male moviegoer alive that’s not going to deeply DIG that spot...Remember, he’s doing ‘A Dame To Kill For’ and brother has he got it. That guy’s enthusiasm for filmmaking is infectious too. A solid bloke and a good soul.”
Carnahan may have seen anything ranging from a full mock-up scene ...
