Jessica Alba who butchered the Fantastic Four's Sue Storm (aka The Invisible Woman) in the two movie adaptations of Marvel's longest running family has signed on to star in An Invisible Sign of My Own according to Variety.

It's a dreaded Jessica Alba starring vehicle and that is not something to get excited about. Her recent run of flops, Awake, The Eye, The Love Guru and Good Luck Chuck have made her box office poison.

It's based on the novel by Aimee Bender which is far more detailed than the trades small blurb but I've tried to cut it down as much as I can...
An Invisible Sign of My Own tells the story of Mona Gray, a math wiz and a high school track star, whose ordinary childhood comes to pieces when her father is stricken with a mysterious illness..

Instead of working out her problems, Mona develops a habit of knocking on wood, and sometimes knocks for an hour before getting to sleep. Eating soap is her other dark indulgence: a surefire anti-aphrodisiac that she calls on whenever she feels sexually attracted to a man. At 20, Mona is recruited to teach math at the local elementary school. To her surprise, she ...

Do you remember Mike Myers? That man who made the hilarious and down-to-earth comedy Wayne's World and the crazy spy parody Austin Powers that won us all over? Well I suggest that you hold on to that memory and lock it tight inside you, and if you see a poster with a beardy guy who looks like him with The Love Guru written on it just run away and forget you ever saw it. This movie is the death knell of his comedy career, and to such an extent that it may even sully the memories of his long-departed comedy classics.

I think the crux of the problem is just that he has run out of comedy material and has no idea how to flesh out his ideas. The movie is an attempted mockery of the American importing of Eastern guru wisdom that sees Myers reprise the lead role as Guru Pitka, an American educated in India by Guru Tugginmypudha (Ben Kingsley). He wants to be the best Guru in the states and to do so has to coach Toronto Maple Leafs star Darren Roanoake (Romany Malco) through some life problems in order to get on Oprah and win the acclaim ...

End the pain, end the misery.

You would have thought that after five years on break from live-action movies, Mike Myers would have come back with something different - something maybe of some artistic integrity but no, it's the same tired old act that he has shoved down our throats for over 15 years now.

His latest piece of cinematic tripe is The Love Guru - a movie about an American raised outside of his country by guru's who returns to the States so he can break into the self-help business. The acting "Gods" that are Jessica Alba and Justin Timberlake co-star alongside Verne Troyer - who will be happier to see Myers back more than most so he can continue to earn a paycheck.

This one opens in five weeks time in the U.S. (August U.K). I really desperately hope this makes no money at all and gives Myers a complete wake-up-call that he has to actually change his act if his career as a big name star is going to continue.

Of course that won't happen. This movie will make over $100 million and a sequel will be in our theatres no later than 2011. Either that or another Austin Powers movie.

Here's ...

In January Kate wrote a great article about the pitfalls of Hollywood remakes of Asian horror I personally agree that "Much is lost in translation; where the Japanese recognise folk culture and beloved literary icons, an American audience sees the frightening and mysterious ‘other’, mired in pagan superstition." Nonetheless, The Eye does have an interesting concept behind it that just about drags it into the range of a half-decent horror/thriller.

All horror films rely heavily on sound, the high pitched strings, the sudden noise, and most importantly unidentifiable sounds off screen or out of sight that provide the anticipation which comprises most of the fear factor in template horror movies. So when you're lacking inspiration on how to revamp this tradition, why not raise the possibility that you can't trust your eyes either? Of course! It all seems so simple now!

The sad thing is that this film keeps it very simple, sticking painfully rigorously to its pre-planned ...

I'm pretty sure I won't be the only reviewer opening with this line, but seeing as how the makers of this film didn't care about originality I don't think I will: It's incredibly ironic that a film entitled Awake left a majority of the audience asleep by the end of it. This film is an unbearably boring affair that takes a vaguely interesting concept, tags on a laughable dramatic storyline and feeds it with some of the worst acting talent ever to grace the silver screen.

The glimmer of hope that lies within the premise is the rare medical condition called "anesthetic awareness" where a surgery patient can feel each piercing cut of the scalpel blade, but is unable to move or speak. Those of you who managed to catch The Diving Bell and the Butterfly [OWF Review] will know that there is a raft of filmic techniques that can poignantly ...
