If you're like me and had never seen the first Crank film until about a week ago and was unaware of how completely mad the whole thing was with Jason Statham (Chev Chelios) having to keep pumping himself up with adrenaline, drugs and doing anything that would keep his heart beating to stop a poison from killing him in under 60 minutes and then at the end falling from a helicopter and seemingly dying, then you may have been surprised that a follow up was made.

This time around, in Crank: Hight Voltage we get a crazy pre-credits flashback to the first film and then we cut to him falling out of said helicopter and then being bundled into the back of a van by angry Chinese men who promptly cut out his heart, put in a mechanical one and plan to harvest his body for organs. Decidedly pissed off about this he wakes up and punches his way out of the room and then sets about for the next 90 minutes in finding his heart and getting even with the bad guys who did this to him. The catch this time is that the artificial heart can only ...

As James Bond leaves behind the gadgets and quips to follow Jason Bourne down the path of gritty, no-frills realism, it's nice to have Frank Martin around to prove there's still more than one way to make an action movie. Authenticity may be the watchword for most modern action heroes, but for the Luc Besson-produced TRANSPORTER series – in which Jason Statham's Frank is the star – that word comes a long way down the list of priorities.

For the uninitiated, here's a quick recap. Frank Martin is the transporter; a cool and unflappable ex-special forces operative who will guarantee delivery of anything, anywhere, anytime. He lives his life by a series of strict rules – never open the package, never use names, always work alone etc. – but throughout the course of his adventures, he usually breaks most of these at some point ("Why is everyone so interested in my rules?" he growls).

His only colleague is friendly gendarme Tarconi (François Berléand), and at the start of TRANSPORTER 3 the pair are enjoying a spot of fishing off the coast of Marseilles, with Frank contemplating the nice, quiet retirement that lies ahead of him. His retirement is short-lived, though, and when ...

Sylvester Stallone is making his first original, non-franchised movie since the little seen thriller AVENGING ANGELO in 2002.

Variety say the actor will star and direct THE EXPENDABLES, a action thriller that follows a team of mercenaries on a mission to overthrow a South American dictator.

Stallone also wrote the screenplay which has THE ONE & WAR duo Jason Statham attached and Jet Li in final talks. The movie is being made at Nu Image, the studio behind his last film RAMBO.

Could this be his answer to Quentin's snub for INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS? Is Stallone going to find more action A-listers to fill his cast and go balls-to-the-wall with a no holds barred RAMBO-esque violent frenzy!

Filming will begin in February in Costa Rica and Louisiana.

The casting is all but complete for 13, the Hollywood remake of a much liked psychological French noir thriller 13 TZAMETI which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival a few years.

Variety say Ray Liotta, Mickey Rourke, Ray Winstone, Jason Statham, Sam Riley and er, 50 Cent will star.

Riley ("Control") plays the title character, a young man who stumbles into an underground competition where the wealthy gamble on human beings in a Russian Roulette-like competition.

Rourke... will play a convict in a Mexican prison who is sold into the competition. Winstone... will play a competitor who has been sprung from a mental institution to participate; 50 Cent ("Righteous Kill") will play an employee assigned to escort Rourke's character to the bloody game.

Statham... plays a wealthy British man who bets on the competition and has a peculiar interest in one of the competitors. Liotta... will play a cop on the trail of the illegal game.
Seduced by the bigger budget, the bigger resources and no doubt the bigger wage... Gela Babluani, the writer/director of the original is back on board to do the same task. No word if this version will be black and white also.

Two entirely different projects are making the news rounds today, both similar in that they are INDIANA JONES style-movies.

First, The Hollywood Reporter say that Nicole Kidman has been tapped up to star in THE FOURTH KINGDOM, an action/adventure archaeological discovery movie from Simon Kingberg who last writing credit was on the global spanding JUMPER.

The movie is intented to do for "treasure hunt movies" what the Bourne films did to Bond... i.e. a more intelligent, very character driven and less cliche movie in the genre.

The other movie then is a project that Jason Statham mentioned to Empire, where a project called THE GRABBERS is being set up as an unofficial remake of the classic Humphrey Bogart and John Huston 1948 movie THE TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE...
“We’ve got a movie we’re trying to do, written by David and Janet Peoples, in the vein of an old film, The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre... It’s not a remake or anything,” clarified The Stath. “But it’s a little bit like that – about relationships and how greed contaminates the relationships these three people have. The working title is The Grabbers.”
David Peoples is one of the co-adapters on BLADE RUNNER and wrote Clint Eastwood's ...

Matt here…

Unsurprisingly 20th Century Fox and Marvel are mulling over a revival of Daredevil, the character that they thought would easily join the high ranks of Spider-Man and X-Men as a third big "comic book to film money maker" back in 2003 but when they hired the wrong director (Mark Steven Johnson), it barely crossed the $100 million mark domestically (it was made for $78 million) and was more disliked than loved.

Though I will forever contend that Johnson's director's cut makes for at least an interesting watch. I would say he got more of the character right than wrong, and it wasn't so terrible like Ang Lee's Hulk or his own later mis-fire of Ghost Rider that a reboot is needed.

I still think the way to go is to put Ben Affleck back in the suit (as he made a good Matt Murdock, and he is older and wiser a performer now) and give Kevin Smith the reigns on it. I know those guys could save this franchise. It doesn't have to be a reboot, just make a sequel that stands-alone.

Talk of a Daredevil revamp has been on the agenda recently after the sometimes insane Frank Miller suggested he ...

Probably the most in demand action star on the planet, Brit hardman Jason Statham has two action vehicles coming out before the end of the year, the first being a remake of the 60's cult classic Death Race 2000 which actually opens on Friday in the U.S.

The second and the one I'm slightly (I loosely use that word) less dreading is Transporter 3, the third movie in the now over blown sugar heavy franchise which this time features Statham's Frank Martin in Paris but delivering packages with no questions asked.

New poster for the movie below as promoted by the guys at Films Actu. It's in keeping with the same grey/white/black imagery of the previous two films.

Transporter 3 is this time distributed by Lionsgate (the previous two by 20th Century Fox) and has Hitman's second unit director Oliver Megaton behind the camera after Louis Letterier moved onto bigger things with The Incredible Hulk this summer.

Producer and co-screenwriter Luc Besson worked with Megaton on said Hitman movie, as he did with the recognisable Robert Knepper (Prison Break) who stars as this film's villain.

And for those who missed it last time, here is the trailer for you again, look for this one in ...

I always thought Daredevil was the one that really got away from Marvel. Here's a superhero, not to disimilar to Batman, who fights justice because of a childhood incident - but actually maybe goes one further than Batman by studying and putting away criminals behind bars with his work as a lawyer by day.

Matt Murdock never rests.

They got a terrific actor to play him in Ben Affleck five years ago but sadly they didn't choose the right director, though I'm of the opinion that Mark Steven Johnson's director's cut of the film was not without it's merits.

I can't believe at this point that Kevin Smith hasn't pitched for a sequel. Having wrote the character for the comic books, played a cameo in the original film and of course being tight friends with Affleck - I'm so surprised they haven't got this character back on the big screen where he deserves.

Maybe it's something they have in the pipeline for the future but by the sounds of things they are going to have to be quick. Fans at the Comic Con at the end of last month might have given Frank Miller the idea to reinvent the character himself, something he did ...

Not really sure how to explain this one.

The Los Angeles Times got hold of several photo's from the set of Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor's sequel to their action film Crank, starring Jason Statham and er, his own head mask.

This completely unconvincing but altogether creepy mask is worn by stunt man Dave Kilde.

Though before all that, you just have to read this ridiculous plot line. It's bad enough that he seemingly survived the impossible from the original film but now he has a huge head and is running around with no heart? I'm presuming there must be more to it than that?
In the high-octane sequel, hitman Chev Chelios' (Statham) launches himself on an electrifying chase through Los Angeles in pursuit of the Chinese mobster who has stolen his nearly indestructible heart. Amy Smart, Dwight Yoakam, Efren Ramirez, Clifton Collins Jr. and Bai Ling co-star.

Anderson spilled the news to MTV Movies Blog...
“I wanted to tip my hat to the original, but also wouldn’t want it to become a cheesy cameo-fest. There’s obviously been, ‘Oh, where’s the David Carradine cameo?’ It’s there, and I think it’s a nice thing for fans. In fact, I had a conversation with David about the movie this morning.”
My God if that original film isn't dumb as hell but is made cool by one actor alone, David Carradine... "the best driver on Earth".

At least we know for a very seconds of the remake, the movie will be cool again.

So I'm watching the trailer for Paul W.S. Anderson's latest cinematic achievement and I'm pleasantly surprised as The Bourne Ultimatum's talented Joan Allen gives her usual great line delivery. Surely an actress like her who never takes the paycheck role may actually have signed up to a worthwhile project?

Well very quickly my sense came back to my head. The movie looks all kinds of crap.

Gone is the goofiness, the camp, the whole basic concept of the original (which was neither a race, nor a battle against other cars... it was basically like Grand Theft Auto, you gain points for the amount of people you kill and damage you cause) and in it's place is a Mad Max colour scheme video game that is going to be a yawn fest I'm sure.

I'm going to have a hard time sitting through this one...

SEE THE TRAILER IN HD HERE

Jason Statham, Tyrese Gibson, Ian McShane, Joan Allen and Robin Shou make up the core cast. The movie opens in September.

Sounding an awful lot like a Transformers robot, director Oliver Megaton has taken over the helm on the Transporter series as vacated by Louis Letterier who got the promotion to direct Marvel's The Incredible Hulk which opens in two days time.

Megaton was ironically the second unit helmer of the Hitman adaptation, a movie that was long rumored to be a starring vehicle for Jason Statham.

New International teaser for the film is below...

See it in HD HERE.
The movie, especially with the added gimmick of the blow up wrist band device makes it feel more like Statham's Crank than the Transporter series. The trailer is very clunky but it's early days yet and it's not like this series was ever sold on it's amazing grasp of storytelling.

Lots of stunt work - unsurprisingly and whilst I was watching this trailer I came to the conclusion that Statham is a lot like an 80's Jackie Chan. Year in, year out he is put in these high octane action vehicles with lots of stunt work and he has become so big right now that he is basically just playing himself on screen.

Transporter 3 will hit theaters on November 26th 2008, with Prison Break star ...

Early 2007 came news that the Weinsteins had commissioned crime novelists Michael Connelly and Terrill Lee Lankford to come up with a screenplay adaptation of the 80's U.S. crime show The Equalizer, with the idea being that Lucky Number Slevin helmer Paul McGuigan would direct.

Presumably the script is complete and we now have a hint at who might be stepping into Edward Woodward's shoes as the private detective who "free of charge" will solve problems of anyone who approaches. His add in the newspaper (and no doubt the tagline of the film) is "Got a problem? Odds against you? Call the Equalizer."

Jason Statham said this to Movies Online when asked about the flick...
''I saw Harvey [Weinstein] the other week and he was talking to me about that”, says Statham, who says he's got new “Transporter” and “Crank” films, in that order, to do first".
Statham's casting would cement the kind of movie they are looking for and I'll admit I've been taken a little off guard by this news because he doesn't seem to the kind of actor who would fit the writings of crime novelists. Have the Weinsteins turned what was looking to be an intense and small character driven ...

Variety have confirmed that Jason Statham will return for TRANSPORTER 3, the second sequel the action star has committed to recently with CRANK 2 expected to begin shooting soon.

As we reported last month, director Louis Letterier has gone on to bigger and better things with this summer's THE INCREDIBLE HULK so EuroCorpa have hired the awesomely named Oliver Megaton (he was second unit on their HITMAN film) to direct.

French actor Francois Berleand who was Tarconi in the previous two movies has also signed up for a third, as has newcomer to the series Robert Knepper from Prison Break and HITMAN.

Combined, the two movies in the series so far have earned Luc Besson's producing company around $75 million in profit and have helped shape Statham into one of the bigger action stars of today - who some have argued should have been the guy to lead Besson's HITMAN franchise and could have possibly saved it from flopping last year.

Anyone a fan of THE TRANSPORTER series? Are we happy to see Statham take on sequels instead of new material?

[rating: 2]

After watching this film two underused words spring to mind - frenetic bilge. The Bank Job is a Brit flick of the most arbitrary kind, blandly forcing together cinematic conventions calculated to have the most universal appeal in an utterly unconvincing and incredibly tiresome way.

Weirdly, the plot is based on the true story of an audacious bank robbery that took place in 1971. Full of scandal and deceit, this robbery was undertaken by a bunch of amateur crooks led by Jason Statham's used car dealer and family man Terry (the obligatory British underdog story set-up) who have been duped into taking on the job as part of a bigger plot which stretches as far afield as MI5, the Royal Family and the black power movement. The story of the robbery was headline news for a couple of days, but then vanished without a trace thanks to a 'D' notice - a secret services tool ...

Out promoting his new movie THE BANK JOB, Jason Statham has revealed to IESB that at one time he had interest in not only playing the lead character in Marvel's SUB-MARINER picture but that he also has a fancy for starring in a remake of THE CROW.

First up there's SUB-MARINER, a movie we haven't spoken about since September 14th 2006 when TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES director Jonathan Mostow was hired to re-write and direct an adaptation of the early Marvel character as the studio looked to expand their universe on the big screen...
I took a meeting for Sub-Mariner. I don’t know if I’d look right running around in a tight speedo with wings on my ankles but there’s so many cool fucking characters.
The meeting with Statham and Mostow's interest in the actor is pretty typical of the kind of star you would expect action director Mostow to go for. Statham certainly has the build and the intensity for the part and has built himself a nice fanbase who would flock to see him in this type of thing.

But of course, it's been nearly 18 months since Mostow was hired, this meeting could have taken place in 2006 ...
