Over the weekend it was confirmed that James Cameron has been sent the J. Michael Straczynski (CHANGELING, Babylon 5) script for the FORBIDDEN PLANET remake Joel Silver is producing at Warner Bros. and completely fell in love with what he saw and is now anxious to direct the story himself and even turn it into a franchise trilogy.

There's even an outline of how the three movies would develop thanks to Latino Review. Those familiar with the original 1956 classic will note that the first movie would be a prequel (well I guess not really as this is a reboot but you get the idea)...
Movie One tells the story of the original ship that came to Altair 4.

Movie Two tells the story of the search for the Krell by the captain of the Bellerophon and his crew...as Diana continues to grow into something profoundly other-wordly. The search takes them beyond the limits of known space into other dimensions, passing from what's known into what's not.

Movie Three tells the story of the second ship to arrive at Altair 4 to investigate what happened to the Bellerophon. They discover Morbius and his "daughter," who is desperate to get off the planet and out ...

QUANTUM OF SOLACE sure got Marc Forster noticed at Paramount.

Variety say the director has been hired to helm an adaptation of Max Brooks' (son of Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft) mega popular zombie-war novel WORLD WAR Z with CHANGELING scribe J. Michael Straczynski writing the screenplay and Brad Pitt's Plan B producing.

The novel, which I've read and really enjoyed revolved around a researcher for the U.N. who interviews survivors of a zombie-human war from countries all over the world some ten years after the crisis. His mission is to piece together a first-person account of the aftermath the war left on the world.

It was published in 2006 and was picked up very quickly by Pitt who has been searching for a director since.
"The genre always fascinated me, and when they pitched it to me, it reminded me of the paranoid conspiracy films of the '70s like 'All the President's Men,' " Forster told Daily Variety.
Wow, ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN meets zombie warfare and from Marc Forster, who contraty to what you might believe in some of the press, did a wonderful job with the latest James Bond movie.

Man I'm excited. In this day and age outside of the 28 LATER ...

The 1956 science fiction classic FORBIDDEN PLANET is so much of a geek favourite movie and carries the themes, plot, ideas and settings which so define "cult", that it was the catchy title chosen for the popular geek superstore that now has 30 outlets across the U.K. and U.S.

The Hollywood Reporter say the original movie is to be remade at Warner Bros with Joel Silver producing.

J. Michael Straczynski, the creator of Babylon 5 and Jeremiah, who did much for the reboot of SPIDER-MAN in comics at the turn of the Millennium and most recently wrote the Clint Eastwood drama THE CHANGELING - will adapt.

The original movie was a cautionary tale, framed almost like a classic STAR TREK episode (and ripped off by that series several times) where a crew is sent from Earth on a mission to check on a colony of scientists working on a far-off planet, led by an incredibly young and good looking Leslie Nielsen!

Once there they find Dr. Morbius (of whom technology has doubled his intellect... making him one of the best 70's Bond films, but actually in a 50's sci-fi film played by Walter Pidgeon) and his beautiful daughter (Anne Francis) who have both survived ...
