Day 2 of Sundance began with a bit of confusion when I arrived at 11 am for the scheduled press screening of MOON to find that it had been replaced at the last minute by a French film in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition called LOUISE-MICHEL. Having carefully plotted out my screening schedule for the week, I found it a bit irritating that the plans had changed last minute, but then again, that seems to be the nature of the press world and I still managed to catch a screening of MOON later in the afternoon.
LOUISE-MICHEL is one of the rare French films that is the complete antithesis of LE FABULEUX DESTIN D’AMELIE POULAIN, as not only does it avoid romanticizing French culture in any shape or form, but seems determined to highlight its ugliest facets and characters. In the film, Marie-Louise (played by actress Yolande Moreau, who also played the widowed neighbor in AMELIE) is a homely, illiterate factory worker who lives alone in the housing projects of Picardy (a very unattractive French town in the middle of nowhere). When the factory shuts down unexpectedly leaving Louise-Michel and several other women jobless, Louise-Michel devises a scheme to off the ...

When I said I had been dreaming about a superhero team-up movie that would involve the likes of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman... Jessica Biel was not exactly who I pictured in my mind for one of the lead roles.

In fact, she couldn't be further removed from what I had imagined.

It's unbelievable but true. I had to read the report three times to just check my eyes weren't giving out on me. Variety report that Jessica Biel is in talks to play Wonder Woman in the upcoming JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA movie. This looks likely to be the first casting on the massive picture, and it would seem she beat out yesterday's Aussie hopeful Victoria Hill.

Is Biel really the best you could come up with Warners? At 25, yeah I'll agree she is a good age for the part but come on man, she can't act herself out of a paper bag. She's pretty yeah, but she's kinda stick thin too and way too short for the role - there's no where I'm going to be able to believe she is of superhuman strength.

This is exactly like the casting of Halle Berry for CATWOMAN, which Warner Brothers made a few ...

Whether or not it was Ben Affleck's call we don't know, but his directorial debut Gone Baby Gone has been pulled from release in the U.K. by Buena Vista International because of similarities to the case of the missing four year old girl Madeline McCann.

The movie was set to open in the final week of December but it has been 'suspended indefinitely' with no word on when the studio will deem the climate to be ok to release their film in Britain says Variety.

It was a difficult situation to be in sure but I guess no harm is done in delaying what is looking to be a superb film. Come back mid 2008 when the dust has hopefully settled and screen your movie then, it's not like it will make that much difference to the U.K. box office.

I still think there is a little bit of over-reaction here because the story is based on a book... it has nothing at all to do with the case of missing Madeline (despite the actress who plays the girl who gets kidnapped due to her mother's neglection actually being called Madeline and having a similar resemblance in look) and is just one of ...

Even though the Justice League movie is moving ahead at a furious pace, Warner Bros seem adamant to not even acknowledge its existence - this despite the fact that everybody and their dog knows George Miller is prepping the project and casting has commenced in the US and Canada.

From our initial casting scoop I speculated that the movie might lens in Canada due to the presence of more offices up there than in the US, however it looks like that won’t be the case.

Thanks to info sent to us, primarily from an OWF reader in the Australian film community, we’ve now got several more bits of Justice League information to share with you:-
The studio has greenlit the project as their summer 2009 tentpole. Filming for the principals will take place in Sydney from February to June 2008 – George Miller was unsurprisingly listed as director in the info we got.

Auditions are starting up down under with Nikki Barrett (Baz Luhrmann’s Australia, The Proposition) hired to handle the casting in Australia. Ronna Kress (Beowulf, The Mummy 3) will oversee the entire casting process.

Oscar-winner Barrie M. Osborne (The Lord of the Rings, The Matrix) will take on producing duties; he’ll be joined ...
