"We are very happy that Redford will be doing this Lincoln movie. It is completely different from what our DreamWorks Lincoln movie will be, and we believe that it will add to the commercial potential of our film. Lincoln as a subject is inexhaustible."
The words of Steven Spielberg to Variety, as yesterday Robert Redford cast both James McAvoy and Robin Wright Penn for his own Lincoln movie, the assassination aftermath drama The Conspirator.

Spielberg is right of course. His Lincoln movie is to focus on the president's anguish over the Civil War whilst Redford's is more about the trial of the assassination conspirators. If anything the two films would compliment each other quite nicely.

Yesterday's Variety said...
Wright Penn will play Mary Surratt, the only woman among a group charged with conspiring to kill the president. McAvoy will play Frederick Aiken, an idealistic young war hero who reluctantly defends Surratt and in the process comes to believe she is innocent.
That movie begins filming next month but Spielberg's is still no where to be seen, as he is more interested in playing with invisible rabbits than Lincoln. Though he still says "will be" to the trade but is anyone even remotely convinced he will ...

We've gone from the "think mode" comments in October to having now "cracked the story" in June, as Shia LaBeouf claims Steven Spielberg told him personally before he went on press for Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen that the new Indiana Jones movie is "gearing up".

LaBeouf spilled it to BBC News

Not that I think anyone cares anymore, surely the time has passed on this series now?

Was the final scene of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull the passing of the torch to LaBeouf as the fedora fell to his feet?

Will Harrison Ford, recently named by Forbes as the highest earning man of the past year in Hollywood for reportedly accepting a $65 million deal to star in the last movie and Crossing Over, even be a part of this picture? (of course he will).

Can anyone be duped again by George Lucas?

Remember when Spielberg was actually significant in modern day film-making? Do you not remember how great Munich was just four years ago, or how fun Catch Me If You Can was?

Why isn't he making INTERSTELLAR SCRIPTED BY JONATHAN NOLAN... and giving us the kind of film that made him the king of Hollywood.

Spielberg, seriously, give Sony a ...

Rick O'Connell from THE MUMMY (Brendan Fraser) and INDIANA JONES (Harrison Ford, obviously) in the same movie together?

You don't need to tell me anymore, the soon to be filming CROWLEY already sounds like the stuff of legend. But for those that do, here's Production Weekly's scoop...
The drama is based on the true story of John (Fraser) and Aileen Crowley, whose two children had a rare genetic disorder. Rather than give up hope that nothing could help his children, John Crowley found a researcher (Ford) with a potential cure.

Ford also will executive produce the film inspired by a Wall Street Journal article and subsequent book, "The Cure," by Geeta Anand.
The role of Aileen has yet to be cast. How's about spending some big bucks to hire Angelina Jolie and let's get Lara Croft in on this adventure!

Though at this point I should mention it's to be directed by the same guy who brought us WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS and the overall disappointing STARTER FOR TEN. Though screenwriter Robert Nelson Jacobs is no hack (CHOCOLAT, THE WATER HORSE).

But Fraser and Ford on the hunt for a cure? AWESOME!

Iranian born Hossein Amini will be writing the new Jack Ryan movie, the fifth involving the Tom Clancy created character for Paramount Pictures which is now 100% officially being made as an origin tale. It's also the first in the cannon not based on a Clancy novel and will be completely un-related to any of the previous movies.

It's a complete reboot basically.

It was rumored a while back that after the return to stardom of Harrison Ford that an older Ryan tale was being favoured but that no longer seems to be the case. Sam Raimi is also officially no longer involved according to The Hollywood Reporter, though I think we have known that for a while now.

Amini was Oscar nominated for the 1997 drama THE WINGS OF THE DOVE and also scripted THE FOUR FEATHERS.

Harrison Ford has told MTV that he is returning to the comedy genre. His sights are firmly set on a movie being produced by J.J. Abrams from the writer of THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA and 27 DRESSES and that could co-star Reese Witherspoon.

The movie is MORNING GLORY and was first announced last year under the helm of Roger Michell (NOTTING HILL). Take your mind back over a year where we wrote...
Aline Brosh McKenna (“The Devil Wears Prada”) is penning the screenplay, which centers on a struggling female news producer and the iconic, temperamental anchorman she recruits to revive a failing network morning show.

Bad Robot’s J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk are producing. Sherryl Clark exec produces.
Reese Witherspoon then found herself attached as the female news producer, presumably Ford will play the anchorman.

You have to go all the way back to SABRINA in 1995 to find Ford's last romantic comedy. He's got a great charm of course and a lot of the last INDIANA JONES movie saw him go through much of the rom-com routine. I would love to see him do this movie but then again, I think I would probably say that about any Harrison Ford potential project at this ...

Is there a movie that you would simply delete from history if you could? Just travel back in time, knock off the screenwriter and then watch the movie's IMDB page fade away into the space-time continuum?

We've all got these, right? Historically speaking, we'd all have been better off if some movies just didn't exist. If we hadn't wasted our time watching them; if we hadn't spent the money buying them; if our favorite actor or director hadn't sullied their otherwise fine reputation by taking on a doomed project.

If I could, I would readily go back in time and blink SIX DAYS, SEVEN NIGHTS out of existence.

That may seem like an obscure choice, but it's for the simple reason that SIX DAYS, SEVEN NIGHTS represents one of my most embarrassing experiences as a rising Hollywood mover-and-shaker. It taught me important lessons about showbiz and my place in it. In fact, it may have signified the beginning of the end for me in terms of staying in Hollywood and deciding what I really wanted out of life.

Or maybe it was just a crappy script that I rejected.

Every producing company in Hollywood has development executives, and they run the gamut from whip-smart to ...

There's two massive factors that need to be considered when attempting to look at the wider aspects of the Jack Ryan franchise over at Paramount and which ultimately why, the studio is desperate to get the character back on our screens.

The first being the BOURNE series and the recent ressurection of the 007 franchise has meant that spy thrillers are big business once again. We know this to be true. Just look at today... Warner Bros. have just paid big bucks to get into the spy thriller merry-go-round by acquiring DEAD SPY RUNNING well before it's due to be published next year.

The second being that INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL made $783 million worldwide and brought back Harrison Ford to the mainstream again. Suddenly, Ford is a goldmine actor and has the potential to be a huge money maker for any tentpole project.

The popularity of the spy genre... the paranoia of the state of the world we live in... and the resurrected name recognition of Harrison Ford means Paramount are itching to push forward with another movie in the 5 year dead Jack Ryan franchise.

There's no question about it.

They tried to get Sam Raimi on board. ...

One thing's for sure, it won't be twenty years until we see another INDIANA JONES film with Harrison Ford as the whip cracking adventurer. It's going to be soon, likely within the next four years, or never again with the aging star who at 66, can't have that many years left in the tank to lead a summer tentpole spectacular.

Ford told The L.A. Times on Friday that Lucas was "in think mode" for a fifth INDY film, a movie that Spielberg, Lucas & Ford have continuously stated could be a possibility after the $783 million worldwide success of INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL this year.

"It's crazy but great... we did well with the last one and with that having done well and been a positive experience, it's not surprising that some people want to do it again," Ford said.
After being burned twice with Lucas and his reinventions of franchises, I'm not one to get excited about any future INDIANA JONES movies anymore. Which is a real shame because Harrison was great in KOTCS, he deserved better and I would love to pay to see the character again but never in such a flawed movie.

Last we heard, Sam Raimi had been chosen as the new figurehead of the Jack Ryan series of Tom Clancy novels which has so far seen four movies made in 15 years, and 3 different actors playing the C.I.A. agent, those being Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin and Ben Affleck.

It's expected that Raimi will move into work on the series late Summer when he is fully completed with his upcoming horror movie Drag Me to Hell and Paramount want the film due out in the Summer of 2010.

Now I can almost guarantee you that Paramount are desperate to get Harrison Ford back as Jack Ryan and doing it right now when his name is hot again.

Ford reveals his interest to The Sun...
"That's a character that I think you could revisit acknowledging the passage of time and his increasing age. It wasn't age dependent; that character and his experiences were chockablock full of recipes for good engaging movies, so that's a character I wouldn't mind revisiting."

But then again I don't feel like he ever left - it was Harrison Ford that I had missed. My copies of Raiders of the Lost Ark (one of my favourite films of all time), Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade (one of my most watched films of all time) I get round to viewing at least once a year - never getting old, always being the same entertaining films I always thought they were and with Indy, the bumbling hero - the guy who made archaeology cool and was the definition of the ultimate mortal hero.

He hurts, he bleeds, he shows emotion but always comes back for more. Because history demands it!

Indy has been with me all my life but it's Harrison Ford that disappeared. He was my childhood hero, the man who I would look out for in movies to give me guidance on how and often how not to live my life. Here’s the good news: INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL does not suck. Forget the poor reviews—this is far from a poor film. Here’s the bad news: it’s not a great film. If that disappoints you then the jokes on you because you expect too much—the trilogy was lightning in a bottle and can never be re-captured. But this film comes close, and that’s mighty impressive.

I won’t go over the details of the plot here except to say Indiana Jones is on the hunt for an artifact once again, this time racing against Soviets and this time taking him to meso-America. That’s really all you need to know. It involves crystal skulls and the paranormal but that’s all kind of incidental to the main point of this film: a wild adventure ride. And what a ride it is. The fourth Indiana Jones film is a helluva fun time—the action is awesome, the ...

Are we all ready? Harrison Ford's been wheeled out, Cate Blanchett has spent 3 days in Kiev practising her accent, Shia LaBeouf has finished grooming himself and George Lucas is ready with the cash register: it's Indy time!

The plot is predictably stupid for an Indiana Jones movie, it's 1957 and the aged archeologist has been kidnapped by commies and taken to a secret US military installation to identify an artefact he excavated years ago in a triple top-secret mission. Once the artefact (a really really old transparent, psychic and weirdly shaped skull that is sometimes magnetic, and sometimes attracts gold) is found we begin an all-important tug-of-war over this astounding object to decide the fate of the world!

Indiana Jones and the Selectively Magnetic Head... no... wait... Indiana Jones and the Shit-Looking Plastic Alien Brain... hang on, nearly there... Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is a fucking waste of time, a pointless ...

The Hollywood Reporter claim that some industry expects believe that Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull will over-take last year's Spider-Man 3 as the biggest opening film of all time. To do that it will have to rake in over $151 million over four days... but as I said last year if any movie could do it apart from The Dark Knight and Spider-Man 4... it would be Indy.

Speaking of our favourite adventurer, one criticism I keep hearing from the reviews online is that the movie uses too much C.G.I - a presence whose absence in Raiders of the Lost Ark has played a great part in that movie still being as fun and enjoyable today as it was over two decades ago. Here's a new cartoonish poster for the film which I'm hoping doesn't turn into the ridicilous.

Michael is seeing it tonight and will have a review up for us, I'm seeing it at midnight tomorrow with a review forthcoming and then Ray will no doubt add his two cents to the table. Let's hope the movie is fun... but not silly, right?

Matt here... Eugenio is back once again. He had his ear to the ground post-screening of the new Indiana Jones screening at Cannes and he kindly let us know of the atmosphere of the press after the film had been seen. Again you can read his thoughts after the image...

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull opened at the Palais on Wednesday to strong reviews from the trade press at the festival, but some reservations from its audience. It's gala premiere on Sunday 18th was preceded by a press screening which was popular enough to have to turn back some members of the press.

Variety, Screen International and The Hollywood Reporter were all enthusiastic about the latest instalment from Spielberg and Lucas in their special daily editions for the festival. Most saw it as a fitting addition to the films of the trilogy, with the long chase sequence in the Amazoniana jungle and the performance of Harrison Ford as Indy getting particular repeated mentions.

Fans, however, those few that were able to get tickets to the premiere, gave mixed reviews. In particular, the UFO-driven storyline, a middle section that sags a little and at times too much dialogue and exposition ...

This is pretty hilarious. Out in Cannes - George Lucas was talking to Fox News about the future of the recently resurrected Indiana Jones franchise when he came up with this doozy of a quote...
"I haven’t even told Steven or Harrison this," he said. "But I have an idea to make Shia [LeBeouf] the lead character next time and have Harrison [Ford] come back like Sean Connery did in the last movie. I can see it working out.

"And it’s not like Harrison is even old. I mean, he’s 65 and he did everything in this movie. The old chemistry is there, and it’s not like he’s an old man. He’s incredibly agile; he looks even better than he did 20 years ago, if you ask me."
No shit Lucas.

Because NO-ONE saw that coming did they?

You yourself may not have told Spielberg or Ford - but the whole rest of the Internet land did last Summer.

If he keeps this franchise game up, LaBeouf may well become the richest young male actor around in another five years time.

On a side note - I booked my tickets tonight for Indiana Jones next week. A midnight showing on Wednesday night at my local cinema which ...

Four new Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull images for you. The last one is my favourite, great pose from Harrison.

And Shia LaBeouf really doesn't care if your man or a women. He's gonna lay one on Cate Blanchett...

According to Variety, attendees at this year's Cannes Film Festival will be the first lucky people on the planet who will witness the long-awaited fourth installment of the Indiana Jones saga on Sunday May 18th, just a four short days before the movie opens worldwide.

This will be the first time a Spielberg movie has premiered at Cannes for over 25 years when E.T. had a similar release in 1982.

Below is a new poster for INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL which was snapped by Paul at The Movie Chronicles and is pretty damn hideous if you ask me. I think it's just a promo piece (because of the big banner) and the lack of text underneath (listings of stars) as we still await the big one-sheet theatrical poster.

Shia LaBeouf looks to have a kink in his neck and is goofy as hell with a sword. Anyone worried about his presence in this movie after seeing photo's from the film and the movie's trailer?

Loved it.

Absolutely loved it.

They just don't make movies like this anymore. Forget Michael Bay. Forget Brett Ratner. Forget all the CGI crap (yes it's used here, but used smartly) that exists within nearly ever blockbuster we see these days.

This is what we wanna see. Good old fashioned fun. I can not wait to see this movie. I feel 11 year olds year old again, and Harrison Ford is still the coolest damn guy on the planet.
