Columbia Pictures have released a full length trailer for this Summer's biblical parody YEAR ONE, directed by the great Harold Ramis (GROUNDHOG DAY, CADDYSHACK), written by the writers of the American Office and starring Jack Black and Michael Cera.

The trailer has a couple of good laughs, a lot of stupidity and Black and Cera going through the usual routines but it just feels a little tame. For what was at first said to be a biblical comedy, there's very few jokes actually about relegion.

Are they holidng back not to affend or damage their movie? Let's hope so, because this looks like a disappointment otherwise...

My girlfriend often says I'm the luckiest guy in the world, especially in the last few years where seemingly every geek property I ever fell in love with is making a return in one form or another.

Not only are we getting a new GHOSTBUSTERS movie with the original crew sounding like they are all might just be up for a return but we are also getting a cool as hell looking video game featuring the voices of Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Ackroyd and Ernie Hudson.

It's too bad they give a few lifeless line readings but hell, I would take this over using someone's elses voice or likeness. Can't wait to get hold of this...

The game is coming in June. Hopefully by then dare I say casting might be complete for GHOSTBUSTERS 3.

Sigourney Weaver claims she will be meeting with Bill Murray next week to discuss GHOSTBUSTERS 3, probably a chat to advise each other on whether they should be involved in the proposed movie or not.

At this point, only Harold Ramis from the original crew is officially on board (and only behind-the-scenes at that) as they are all waiting on the quality of the script The Office scribes Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky turn in before committing themselves.

But what of the return of another character from the original series? Someone I had previously not yet thought of. And no I don't mean the return of Louis Tully as played by Rick Moranis, no, no, no. From Sigourney herself to MTV (via /film)...
“I would hope that my little Oscar would be one of the Ghostbusters even if I’m not in it!”
Of course. Sigourney's bastard son.

That kind of possible continuity is something that Hollywood can't help themselves by putting in place. I can imagine them going with the father/son storyline if indeed Weaver's character got married to Murray's Peter Venkman who now acts as Oscar's step father?

It's been two decades since the last movie, Oscar will be a grown up man now. Perfect ...

Speaking for the second time about the potential GHOSTBUSTERS 3 on Oct 3rd, Bill Murray told reporters at a New York Press Conference that the movie "could happen" but more interestingly he also reveals why it hasn't happened in the near two decades since the last film.

It's all because he was "disappointed" with how GHOSTBUSTERS 2 was developed and how the final cut ended up on screen.

"We did a sequel, and it was sort of rather unsatisfying for me, because the first one to me was the goods," Murray said. "It was the real thing. And the sequel, you know, was ... it was a few years later. There was an idea pitched. And it was like, well, they got us all together in a room. We just laughed for a couple of hours. And then they said, 'What if we did another one? Here's an idea.'"

"So they had this idea, but it didn't turn out to be the idea when I arrived on the set. They'd written a whole different movie than the one [initially discussed]. And the special-effects guys got it and got their hands on it. And it was just not the same movie. There were a ...

Harold Ramis has confirmed to Chicago Tribune's Pop Machine that Judd Apatow is officially on board as co-producer of the newly announced Ghostbusters III which will be scribed by NBC's The Office writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky.

Ramis who played the scientist Egon in the two films to date, also confirms the movie is being made with the intention of having the original four cast members as "mentors" to a newer generation which will now almost certainly involve Seth Rogen (because of Apatow's involvement) and probably Paul Rudd. I think those two more than any other are shoe-ins here.

He says, also talking about Bill Murray and the rest of the gang's return...
"yes, columbia is developing a script for GB3 with my [Year One] writing partners, gene stupnitsky and lee eisenberg. judd apatow is co-producing [Year One] and has made several other films for sony, so of course the studio is hoping to tap into some of the same acting talent. aykroyd, ivan reitman and i are consulting at this point, and according to dan, bill murray is willing to be involved on some level. he did record his dialogue for the new ghostbusters video game, as did danny and i, ...

So it's official, Ghostbusters III is about to be scripted.

It's happening, just like I kept telling you guys it would.

Columbia Pictures have hired Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, the co-executive producers on NBC's version of The Office to write an original script for the film that will have the intention of reuniting Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson for the first time since 1989's Ghostbusters II.

As well as writing the excellent U.S. version of The Office, the writing duo have also just wrote Year One, the biblical comedy which Harold Ramis himself recently helmed for Judd Apatow.

You can read the story in Variety!

Just this week Ackroyd had mentioned his desire to get Judd Apatow, Seth Rogen and their gang involved in the picture in someway, something many fanboys have anticipated happening for about a year now. Could this new movie act as a farewell to the original cast and as a set-up to carrying on the franchise with Apatow's gang, which could well involve Rogen, Paul Rudd and presumably Steve Carrel, who of course just so happens to be the star of The Office.

Will Ivan Reitman, the helmer of Parts I and II and who last directed ...

Dan Ackroyd, usually the figurehead voice for the Ghost Busters team loves the much talked about rumblings of what a Judd Apatow directed Ghost Busters 3 would look like with Seth Rogen and his usual crew (presumably Rudd, Carell etc) starring.

And who knows, if Ackroyd is talking about it (and he would know, mentioning a script being written right now) maybe it's more than just rumblings...
Well, y’know, two sharp young writers are purported to be writing the sequel, the third movie now. If I could interest Seth [Rogen] and Judd [Apatow] to be part of it, that would be an absolute dream.
I've said it time and time again. Ghost Busters is a staple of mine and many of my generation's childhood, two (ok for some just one) precious films that we don't particularly want to see revisited. HOWEVER, revisited they will most certainly be, just like Back to the Future will be sooner rather than later.

The question is as to whether it will be a Stallone/Willis/Ford style return for the original cast or whether it will be new blood... or somewhere in the middle where it's a passing of the torch movie is where the big mystery lies.

Now, because Ghost ...

So there's a totally unfounded rumor online at Dread Central that Judd Apatow has not only convinced Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Ackroyd and Ernie Hudson to return for a third Ghost Busters movie some twenty years after the last picture but also that they would use the film to pass the torch to Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Seth Rogen and Romany Malco.

All four actors made up the core cast of The 40 Year Old Virgin and have since starred in many various Apatow projects.

But as with every Ghost Busters rumor of the last ten years, Bill Murray seems in no mood to do another of these pictures no matter how much money they throw at him.

Why would things be so different now?

Though I would say this. If Apatow could ever convince Ackroyd, Ramis & Murray to give up the rights to the series (and if anyone could, it would be Apatow) then I'm convinced he could make a great movie with his usual crew AS LONG as he didn't got the remake route.

For example, I would rather see Rogen as a new character, rather than trying to be Bill Murray.

And this kind of rumor story isn't particularly new. A ...
