UPDATED:

Variety and The Hollywood Reporter both say Marvel actor Ryan Reynolds has been cast as Green Lantern. THR claims it's the first time an actor has played a superhero in a Marvel and DC Movie, which sounds right in my head but we shouldn't forget that James Marsden was Cyclops in Marvel's X-Men and Richard White in DC's Superman Returns (not as asuperhero character, granted).

What does that mean for Deadpool, I really can't say but I would predict that Marvel will sacrifice that movie now, which is definitely a bonus I would say. Reynolds - well I liked him in Smokin' Aces but apart from his good lucks, I've never been convinced that he is a Hollywood star. Got all the attributes, but for whatever reason it hasn't worked for him yet.

Make or break this movie for him? You betcha... if he wants to be the next Christian Bale, then this is the time to show it.

Guess I was wrong about Bradley Cooper, but I did hear from reliable people that the job was all set to be his for a while. I wonder what happened? Was it the lightning fast buzz that he won from The Hangover that Warner Bros. ...

It worked in the late 80's. Ambitious young director Tim Burton rejected studio advice about who he should cast as Bruce Wayne/Batman and went straight for his actor on Beetlejuice, the family friendly comedy actor Michael Keaton, who clearly wasn't 6"2 and hadn't spent his whole adult life training for his body to be in the ultimate physical condition to avenge the death of his parents.

Fanboy outrage ensued, but it would be the intensity of Keaton's performance, the ability to forge out a character and the darkness in Keaton's eyes that made him an inspired choice for the Caped Crusader and many still prefer his screen Batman to any other.

Warner Bros. we almost know for sure have been clamouring for Ryan Gosling and Chris Pine for the lead role of Hal Jordan in Green Lantern, the next roll of the dice from the studio hoping to match Marvel's success with bringing Iron Man to the big screen, in a big way.

But when both men turned down the roles (at least that's what I'm led to believe, the former I'm 100% sure has turned it down at least five times), director Martin Campbell is now hoping they are willing to take the ...

The budget is set according to Warner Bros. They are using $150 million from the fortune they made from The Dark Knight and ploughing that into Green Lantern. The Hollywood Reporter say shooting will begin in the Summer down in Sydney Australia, at Fox Studios.

The reason for the Australia shoot being that the $150 million will a stretch a lot further down under because of the drop of the Australian dollar and a 15% location rebate from the Aussie federal government.

Martin Campbell (Goldeneye, Casino Royale, The Mask of Zorro) directs from t.v. writer Greg Berlanti's script. The movie is currently set to hit theatres in Dec. 17th 2010.

But we still have no Green Lantern... though I don't think you can go wrong looking at the Enterprise for who it may be (Chris Pine or the young Anton Yelchin).

Has the new Captain Kirk, Californian born actor Chris Pine already made plans to avoid being pigeon holed in one iconic role like William Shatner's whole career?

Is Chris Pine desperate to show, kinda like what Christian Bale is doing right now that playing one icon, shouldn't automatically put you out of the running for another?

IESB carry word from sources within Warner Bros. that Pine is being lined up to play Hal Jordan when GREEN LANTERN begins filming this September, under the director of Martin Campbell (CASINO ROYALE, THE MASK OF ZORRO).

Pine, 28 years old, fits perfectly into the "late 20's" category we have been hearing so much about from WB and although maybe slightly smaller built than in the comics, his face is a good match for LANTERN.

But do we really know he can act yet? Sure he was fun playing one of the Tremor Brothers in SMOKIN' ACES and yeah, so here's done a few rom-com's here and there... but so what?

What counts will be what is on the screen in May when STAR TREK opens worldwide. Let's allow him to convince us he can lead the Enterprise before anyone seriously thinks about offering him the power ring.

It got a release date this week, so we know that GREEN LANTERN, the next superhero to get the big money roll of the dice from Warner Bros. is less than 22 months away from hitting our screens.

So WB. need to decide soon who will wear the green of Hal Jordan but according to Latino Review, the studio have so far found that task very difficult.

They say THE NOTEBOOK star Ryan Gosling (who LR have mentioned before in conjuction with this role) has turned the movie down, as has INTO THE WILD and SPEED RACER's Emile Hirsch.

Sam Worthington, who seems to be a name who always crops up these days with blockbuster gigs, turned it down because he's busy working on CLASH OF THE TITANS at the same studio.

So they are having to delve a little deeper to find their man and the word is, Russian born actor Anton Yelchin, who isn't 20 till March is who they are going to approach.

You may not know his name but once I tell you he's playing Chekov in STAR TREK and is playing Kyle Reese in TERMINATOR SALVATION, by the end of May he is certainly going to be geek radar's everywhere.

Warner Bros. have been working out their strategy of releases for the next two years and have come up with a game plan that looks something like this according to ercboxoffice.

The final part of the Hogwarts movies, HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART II will hit theatres on July 15th 2011, some eight months after PART I.

At the moment that is the same release date as Marvel's epic ensemble THE AVENGERS but there's time for movement on that one, I can't see both of them liking the idea of competing with one another.

GREEN LANTERN, the next Warner Bros. character to get a tentpole will be released on Dec. 17th 2010. This marks a distinct change for Warner Bros. who always bring their comic book characters to the dance as Summer epics and is a distinct risk, trying to see if the market can hold up a Christmas release.

It worked for I AM LEGEND in 2007 but can it work for a costumed character?

CASINO ROYALE and THE MASK OF ZORRO director Martin Campbell is in charge and will be picking his LANTERN very soon to hit that release date.

Meanwhile, JONAH HEX which is slightly ahead in terms of production time, ...

Martin Campbell twice resurrected James Bond from franchise killing movies when he made GOLDENEYE and CASINO ROYALE, both times bringing the exact entertainment audiences wanted out of their 007 at a time when the future of the character was looking very bleak indeed.

If it wasn't for Campbell, maybe we wouldn't have James Bond movies still being made right now.

Now Warner Bros. want him for GREEN LANTERN, replacing Greg Berlanti who was the last director to be attached, though his script he co-wrote with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green is still expected to be used say Variety.

Campbell whose credits also include the two ZORRO movies and VERTICAL LIMIT, has just completed a remake of his own BBC thriller EDGE OF DARKNESS with Mel Gibson and Ray Winstone.

You can see why he has been chosen. He makes great character pieces (see his last Bond) which are stylish, grounded in reality (which will do what Nolan did for Batman here) and with top notch quality action.

The only thing I would say, is I hope he has a BIGGER VISION for this character, which is something he surely warrants. This is no ordinary superhero character.

The movie is now being fast tracked looking for a release ...

Looks truly like Warner Bros. have given up the ghost on GREEN LANTERN being black, all the rumors suggest the movie will revolve around Hal Jordan rather than John Stewart.

Latino Review say their biggest WB source has given them the exclusive scoop that Ryan Gosling is being eyed for the role as their first choice.

Gosling, 28 next month, is the perfect age for Greg Berlanti's script where the character is said to be aged 27.

Academy Award nominated for his role in HALF NELSON two years ago, Gosling certainly has great acting chops and is closer to WB/DC's casting of a great physical actor like Christian Bale than an unknown like Brandon Routh.

Hunt out LARS AND THE REAL GIRL and you will believe he is more than just a pretty face. This guy is good... though to play Lantern he will need to drop some of the brooding and notch up the charisma a few paces.

Last we heard this will be filming in the Spring, so hopefully we will get official casting within six weeks.

He told First Showing that a new script had arrived that they were pleased with and that Greg Berlanti (THE BROKEN HEARTS CLUB) was still directing.

LANTERN will be a superhero origin tale and should be in theatres for the Summer of 2010.

The movie should be epic and for my money, GREEN LANTERN is box office gold waiting to happen if they figure it out right. I'm still not sure why Berlanti is directing this and how he got the job in the first place but he's been attached to this for a while, he should have figured out the nuts and bolts of it and is hopefully confident enough to take this character and really run with it.

It's bordering nonsensical talking about the Justice League movie at this point because for every claim, counter claim and then counter, counter claim - but the truth is the movie has no cast or firm greenlight, so until we hear otherwise that's how we will view the official status of the film.

However, IESB have heard a juicy story that's a little too good not to report on.

They say that Australian director George Miller has been pulled off the now dead Justice League project and the film completely canned because WB were worried about the Christopher Nolan/Christian Bale backlash on their very successful Batman franchise which has made over $1 billion so far from two movies.

They didn't want to piss them off basically.

But that would seem not to be the end of Miller and WB/DC. The site go on to claim that the studio is looking at Miller as a big potential candidate for the Green Lantern film which looks very likely to be the next original character adapted for screen from their canon, beating The Flash and Wonder Woman to the punch.

They have a script from Greg Berlanti (The Broken Hearts Club, Dawson's Creek) which they are very fond of ...

This popped into my inbox today in response to yesterday's article about Louis Letterier "knowing" of a Superman reboot...
Mr. Matt Holmes,

After your recent article was brought to my attention, I figured you would enjoy this. So far it hasn't been posted anywhere, but we know this image was sent to a few websites within the last day including IESB, SuperheroHype, Superman Homepage, and our site as well. Unfortunately for us, the image is part of a proposal we are putting together to pitch a reboot trilogy of Superman to WB. The artist's cousin who took the photo didn't know he works for me and I was one of the people copied on their email. It also included a number of pages to our script, but I'm trying to keep those under wraps still. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me any time.

In regards to this recent news involving Mark Millar and now Louis Letterier, I can tell you that there are at least four groups preparing to pitch reboot ideas with us being one of them. There could be more.
Said image (I will keep the integrity of the person who sent ...

We've already tipped you off about the BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN billboard in I AM LEGEND. But what you probably didn't notice (and I didn't spot this in the film), is that there's another DC superhero that makes a cameo.

The Times brings us the following picture:-

Looks like WB have decided to drop a little Green Lantern easter egg into the film with a poster that looks like a riff on Alex Ross' Hal Jordan. And could that be a Flash poster next to it, I can't quite tell?

The thought of seeing BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN, GREEN LANTERN and THE FLASH by 2009 (the year Emma Thompson carelessly unleashes a killer virus on humanity!) are pretty hilarious. Warner Bros have proven that they can't make any superhero franchise work unless pointy eared cowls are involved.

Today's news leads me to believe that the JUSTICE LEAGUE movie is going to get scrapped.
