Another remake (I continue, unapologetically, to hate them) is coming our way this week, now in the form of eighties TV play The Firm.

A far cry from the eighties Syndey Pollack/Tom Cruise thriller, this 'The Firm' is set in East London and follows the fortunes of young lad Dom. After an encounter with Bex, the enigmatic leader of the ICC (a reference to the West Ham Inter City Firm, or group of yobs) he is drawn into the heady, destructive joys of football hooliganism.

It's the kind of morality/coming of age tale we've seen a million times before. Dom is seduced by a world of violence that he feels empowers him, and allows him to escape the banality of his family life. Soon, however, he learns that the seedy underworld of the East End is not all it's cracked up to be, and finds himself in deep trouble. Meanwhile ringleader Bex is a family man, whose actions soon have severe ramifications for those innocent loved ones who have been consistently turning a blind eye to his thuggish leanings.

As a remake, it brings little to the original. Gary Oldman played the part of Bex in the original, making it a hard act ...

Gary Oldman may be playing us for fools, but during the Comic Con panel for his upcoming Denzel Washington apocalyptic thriller The Book of Eli, Commissioner Gordon himself claimed that production is ramping up on Batman 3 to shoot next summer, with the film coming out as early as 2011.

Which contradicts all the official and unofficial scuttlebutt we have been hearing in the 12 months since The Dark Knight took over the summer of 2008. Oldman officially said...
“The next batman is next year, so I think it is two years away. But you didn’t hear it from me.”
Which is about as far and away from the usual answer of "well it depends what happens with Chris" which everyone involved in the series has answered with when inevitably cornered by journalists wanting to get this kind of scoop.

Is Oldman telling the truth, has he got his wires crossed?

Is Nolan on board... could he even possibly be on board considering he is mega busy on Inception, hardly a small sized flick. Of course it's feasible, but he would have to move onto the film straight away. Guess we'll find out later today as Quint from AICN has one-on-one time with Nolan, and he's already mentioned he is ...

Film.ru carry the first image of Jim Carrey as the miserable Ebenezer Scrooge from A CHRISTMAS CAROL, the motion captured 3-D animated movie from Robert Zemeckis which opens November 6th 2009.

Disney expect the Charles Dickens source material to be so popular that it will be able to play the movie throughout Christmas and are wanting to create a classic, a Victorian Era adaptation that is a faithful to the book as possible.

Remember Carrey plays multiple roles, ala Tom Hanks in Zemeckis' THE POLAR EXPRESS, as he plays Scrooge and the three ghosts of Christmas (Past, Present and Future). Something which I'm pretty certain has never been attempted before.

Gary Oldman (as Bob Cratchit, Marley, Tiny Tim), Colin Firth (Fred), Robin Wright Penn (?) and Bob Hoskins (Mr. Fezziwig) make up the core cast.

Personally, I was more attracted to Jessica Lucas from CLOVERFIELD (who can be next seen in Sam Raimi's new movie) but I can see Odette Yustman is attractive. I defy any man to walk past this poster in your local cinema auditorium and not have your head turn by her cute ass. Albeit, her cute photoshopped ass. Thanks to Empire for the heads-up...

The movie is THE UNBORN, a good old fashioned horror flick written and directed by David S. Goyer who is coming off a massive flop with THE INVISIBLE last year but has some awesome writing credits with BLADE, DARK CITY and of course BATMAN BEGINS and a story cred on THE DARK KNIGHT. There's another Batman connection here also as Gary Oldman goes Max von Sydow on us. Well kind of... he plays a Rabbi for performs exorcisms.

In the vein of the possession classics THE OMEN and THE EXORCIST, Goyer's new movie finds Yustman as the subject of a malevolent spirit who is haunting her. Originally the kid was said to have been killed in the holocaust but the producers have since being trying to keep that quiet or maybe that was deemed to ambitious and was dropped? ...

Gary Oldman will co-star with the previously cast Denzel Washington in the post apocalyptic thriller BOOK OF ELI, to be directed by Albert and Allen Hughes... the duo's first movie since FROM HELL in 2001.

Joel Silver is co-producing with Allen Entertainment, WB will produce says Variety.

"Eli" revolves around a lone warrior (Washington) who must fight to bring society the knowledge that could be the key to its redemption. Oldman has been set to portray the despot of a small makeshift town who's determined to take possession of the book Eli's guarding.
DON'T SAY A WORD writer Anthony Peckham has wrote the latest draft which was first written by AKIRA scribe Gary Whitta.

The picture will mark the first time the actors, both north of 50, have ever worked together. Last we heard shooting would begin in January.

Three Gary Oldman performances for the price of one. That's what you get with this live action motion captured technology though I've never quite understood why Robert Zemeckis in both The Polar Express and this movie wants to use the same faces for several parts?

/Film have confirmed a report from late last year that Gary Oldman has a role in A Christmas Carol, well three actually...
“I play [the ghost of] Marley, Bob Cratchit, and Tiny Tim,” Oldman told /Film at the Dark Knight junket. “I saw the designs, and the realizations of London and the characters. The design of it, and the look of it, is beautiful. It’s quite stunning. It should be quite magical.”
He isn't the only one in the movie playing multiple parts. Jim Carrey has been on board since day one as Ebenezer Scrooge himself and bizarrely the three Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future.

In the interview which you can read HERE he goes on to mention that Zemeckis is doing things with his production that just wouldn't be possible with live action and that they are very much redefining our image of the story, apparently closer to have Charles Dickens saw it when he imagined ...

Gary Oldman, whose career is predictable for doing the unpredictable (i.e, he's doing a horror/thriller for David Goyer which maybe you would say was a little beneath him, perhaps?) has joined the cast of the Japanese-set thriller Rain Fall.

The movie will be the second directorial effort for writer/director Max Mannix (Dance of the Dragon) and will shoot next month with only 15% English dialogue (presumably everything involving Oldman)...
Adapted from a novel by best- selling American author Barry Eisler, pic is story of a hit man who is forced to protect the daughter of one of his victims against assassination by the CIA. Shiina Kippei ("Shinobi") and Akiho Hasegawa star.
The film is being financed in part by Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan and is budgeted at over $7 million with the help of completion Bond, the first time a Japanese movie has used such a distinciton.

Lord knows so many Japanese actors make the journey to the U.S. to star in Hollywood movies, I would like to see more actors from this part of the world make the journey over there more often.

And really, who better than Oldman to fly the flag for us Brits?

Here's a shocker!

Platinum Dunes actually have an original horror movie in the works. That's right, not some hack job remake or glitzy re-imagining. Brand new material!

You may remember back in November we told you of plans that David Goyer had to direct a as then "unknown supernatural thriller". Well four months on, we now have plot details and information on the whole cast from The Hollywood Reporter. And a movie title.

Unborn follows a young girl tormented by the soul of a boy who died in the Holocaust. Yeah it's a Holocaust chiller, and he's the cast...

Gary Oldman, as a rabbi who performs exorcisms! How cool is that?

Odette Yustman, the chick from Cloverfield will play the girl tormented by the soul of a boy who died in the Holocaust. Creepy!

Meagan Good, who was superb for 5 mins in Brick... but has starred in some crap with One Missed Call (U.S.) and Stomp the Yard will play her best friend.

Carla Gugino, does she need an introduction? She will play the haunted girls mother.
Jane Alexander (from The Ring - plays a holocaust survivor & brother to the tormented spirit), Idris Elba (Tango, the guy who got shot on the street by Denzel in ...
