In The Uninvited we have yet another horror remake, that most cost-efficient of films and the only area of international trade not currently hitting rock bottom. Rather than intersperse my review with comparisons and so forth, I've decided that the easiest way to deal with it is to split my review into two parts.

For those of you who don't give a damn whether it was the idea of some guy in Korea before it was this, skip the last three paragraphs. For those who know and love Kim Jee-Woon's A Tale of Tour Sisters skip the first four. Now, on with the opinions...

Anna Rydell has been in a mental hospital. We don't know how long for, but it seems like she was sent there after the death of her mother which, as you might expect, hither pretty hard. But far from returning to the happy home where she can receive the rest and support she needs, she returns to a place where something is very very wrong. You see, although her sister is upbeat and pleased to see her, her father is uncomfortable about how Anna will deal with his new girlfriend. But then I would be worried too if my new girlfriend was ...

Whenever someone criticises Kevin Smith's direction in his movies, or lack there of it, Smith usually comes back with the defence that he is a way better writer than he is director. Or that he is a filmmaker and not a "director" per say, in so much that yes he tells stories on film but the depth is in the dialogue and tone rather than anything he does with movement or direction. And in the sincerest and nicest possibly way, I've always agreed with that.

Putting aside all the F***, C*** and S***'s., the bottom of the barrel and vulgar foul language in almost every scene of his films, when he is at his best there is a real story bubbling away at the core. For many, it fully came to the surface with his 1997 movie CHASING AMY and now with his latest movie ZACK AND MIRI MAKE PORNO, he has returned to the friendship vs. sexual politics theme and his solid writing and characterisation really makes it work again.

Maybe it's something to do with the economically scary state the world is in right now but you just simply can't help but relate to the down on their luck ...

On Thursday night, at the London Film Festival, held the Gala premiere of Oliver Stone’s W. and braving the rain, rabid press photographers, a dutch hack with the world’s biggest umbrella, and a particularly crazy Russian TV reporter I managed to get a few shots.

Before that though, don't forget to check out my review of the movie!

I’ve been to a few of these premieres before but the gauntlet the actors face is still an eye-opener. Especially when they are as beautiful as Elizabeth Banks, who plays Laura Bush in the movie...

Walking down the red carpet with the press and tv crews on one side and the public on the other, each of them yelling and screaming for attention; and at the end near the cinema entrance the banks of the paparazzi. It’s like watching a march towards a firing squad.

Still, the actors and Oliver Stone know why they’re there and they sign autographs, do the chit-chat, pose on queue, even do a bit of hair combing (that's you Mr. Stone).

At one particulary scary moment Rebecca Loos stepped into shot, but after shouting 'Security!' a few times she wandered off. You can’t help getting caught up in it, and pretty soon ...

I'm struggling to work out what is actually new in this trailer for ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO but I have to post about it, I loved CLERKS II... a huge step up for Kevin Smith in terms of direction, themes and just the overall visual look of his films.

And this looks to be the same and has some real weight it. Elizabeth Banks and Seth Rogen, two of the funniest actors around right now whose naturalistic style should suit Smith's dialogue down to the ground and make for a very likeable and enjoyable film.

The movie opens in the U.S. a week tomorrow (Nov. 14th in the U.K.) and it should make up for the lack of comedy on our screens this year (after TROPIC THUNDER and FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL.. has their been much else?). Trailer is below, see if you can spot what's new...

See it in HD at Myspace!

Thankfully, the trailer keeps the word "PORNO". With this and the R-Rating for SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE... just what is up with the world right now?

Elizabeth Banks made a great horror victim in the 2006 B-Movie SLITHER but in a complete reversal of fortune here she is playing one helluva bitch stepmother in THE UNINVITED, the first studio feature length movie from the directing brothers Charles & Thomas Guard.

It's a remake of the popular 2003 Korean movie A TALE OF TWO SISTERS, a movie that was an effective chiller from the peak of that awesome few years of Korean horror where you were getting six or seven genre pieces that were pissing on anything Hollywood had to offer. The movie was about two sisters who, after spending time in a mental institution, return to the home of their father and cruel stepmother.

They have kept the same plot for the remake...

HD VERSION ON MYSPACE TRAILER PARK!

Everything that doesn't involve Banks, I'm not sure I'm fond of. Most explicitly how much the 2.19 minute trailer gives away. The direction feels a little hoaky, the acting from the two young leads feels a little sloppy and the trailer is more than a little confusing to follow.

But all in all, it just looks like the typical Hollywood remake of a very good Asian horror. See MIRRORS, THE EYE, etc, ...

Universal have released the red-banded trailer for the Sean William Scott and Paul Rudd asinine college humor comedy ROLE MODELS online.

If I have anything good at all to say about the trailer, it's that Paul Rudd has a great way of making me wanna see him on screen for two hours, no matter how bad the movie looks around him.

Though I will admit it got a lot of laughs from me, maybe it was the swearing and in particular the kids swearing. There is just something immensely funnier about adding swear words to your comedy dialogue.
Hell, Kevin Smith has kinda made a career out of it.
We also have a poster to showcase...

Sure the movie looks ridiculous but if it keeps it laughs per minute up high, at least it shouldn't be a tough one to see through to the end. I'm not going to bother with a plot because I'm not sure the movie will be sold on it and instead just the jokes. And Elizabeth Banks can't hurt of course.
David Wain (THE TEN) has co-written the ROLE MODELS with three other scribes, one of which being Rudd himself. The movie opens in the U.S. on November 7th and in ...

The official red banded trailer has been released for Kevin Smith's next movie Zack and Miri Make A Porno and finally we get to see some really funny stuff for what I thought from day one was a very promising concept.

For the first time, Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks bring the chemistry you would think they had on paper to the big screen and their comedy doesn't look or sound awkward together. They work... just like Rogen and Heigl worked in Knocked Up.

And it looks like the killer sequence, of course, how did we not see this coming?, will be the porno Star Whores.

It had to be didn't it?

Craig Robinson who plays Darryl in The Office can make me crack up everytime with his casual style of line delivery.
And the giant leap in cinematography that Dave Klein took on Clerks II looks to have continued into this flick which looks really gorgeous. When Smith and Klein work together on a possible superhero/horror or another genre movie, I think you will really start to see Smith's talent and visual eye grow.
This movie looks hilarious. Oh and before I leave, here is a newly released poster for the film which has actually ...

Kevin Smith screened his next movie Zack and Miri Make a Porno for the MPAA today who agreed that the movie should indeed be slapped with an R-Rating, and not an NC-17 as first suggested.

It's a massive decision for Smith because he had told press this week he would not be willing to make further cuts to the movie (we believe 12 minutes have already been lost) and would have then risked opening the movie with the kiss of death rating of NC-17, meaning no-one under the age of 17 could see the picture.

Currently the highest grossing NC-17 movie in history was Showgirls, a $20.3 million grossing flop of the mid 90's. According to IMDB, the budget for Smith's movie stands at $25 million... so clearly it would have taken a box office miracle for Smith to make a profit on the picture with that rating.

Starring Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks as a broke couple who decide to film themselves in an amateur porn money to make so much needed cash, Zack and Miri Make a Porno will open in October.

It's said that usually the most awkward part of shooting a porno is the dialogue scenes and not the close intimate fucking, which makes sense when you think about it as most porn stars aren't actors.

But when you have Kevin Smith shooting a porno with Hollywood stars Elizabeth Banks and Seth Rogen, two actors who can deliver dialogue as well as anybody... well you don't expect it to be as awkward and uncomfortable as this...

It wasn't that Smith's dialogue wasn't wholly unfunny, it's just again... and again... and again, it becomes tidious and boring. I could imagine Smith himself saying the lines and it being funny but Rogan just wasn't working with this was he, and as for Banks... WOW - Over-acting alert.

Such an uncomfortable scene, very reminiscent of their viral marketing spoof "I'm Fucking Seth Rogen".

These guys have zero chemistry, which is such a shame after the great bond Katherine Heigl and Rogen had in Knocked Up.

Maybe this might have worked if Smith swapped with Rogen - or Heigl swapped with Banks. These two just have nothing going together here.

In short: LOVE the idea for the movie. I LIKE all the talent involved. BUT everything they have shown me ...

Ok, so they have done an amazing job making Josh Brolin look like the current U.S. President George Bush but again I'm asking you - what does the actor see in this material for W. (note the dot that now accompanies the title - that is not just the end of sentence).

He's too good to play parody like this and at the end of the day he has to make himself look stupid for two hours on screen and I can't imagine director Oliver Stone for a second giving Bush any chance for emotional resonance. Bush is going to look inept, incapable and idiotic... it's a thankless role for Brolin.

This image which has landed on the cover of Entertainment Weekly tells us two further things.

NUMBER 1: That ridiciulous smirk on the face of Bush will be a frequent look in the film, I can guarantee it.

NUMBER 2: This movie is going to be huge - one of the bigger hits of Stone's career and will dominate the press for the week of it's release.

Also on the cover is Elizabeth Banks as Laura Bush. Co-starring with them are James Cromwell (as the other George Bush), Ellen Burstyn (as Barbara Bush senior), ...

The beautiful and talented Elizabeth Banks is not having much trouble finding roles these days, she has no less than six movies on her schedule (though one of those movies is Meet Dave) and today we can add one more. And it's a big one too.

The Hollywood Reporter say Banks will star as the first lady, Laura Bush in Oliver Stone's biopic of the soon to be former U.S. President. She's jumping straight out of Seth Rogen's bed in Zack and Miri Make A Porno into the Whitehouse!

Leading the movie in superb casting is Josh Brolin, one of the most exciting actors to come out of 2007 and someone who will no doubt have all the chance in the world to get an Oscar nom out of this thing.

We also have a title now. The movie will simply be known as W... probably pronounced Dub-Ya.

Yup, I don't think this movie is going to be one George Bush is looking forward too!

Production begins late April. The script comes co-written by Stone and his Wall Street scribe Stanley Weiser. I'm actually hoping for a movie that doesn't take itself too seriously, maybe along the same lines as Charlie Wilson's War and the ...

USA Today have an article up talking about Kevin Smith's next movie Zack and Miri Make A Porno, speculating that audiences will stay away from the film because the word "porno" is in the title.

I kinda disagree. Remember Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, a $300 million+ worldwide just nine years ago?

If anything the title will help the film. After all, the main thing most guys use this fascinating invention known as the Internet is to view porn and that industry is still striving with DVD and now High-Definition DVD sales. And it's not like the R-rated comedies The 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up and Superbad where all big hits recently, all having an appearance from Seth Rogen - one of them with him in the lead.

Here's our first look at Zack and Miri Make A Porno, which stars Rogen and Elizabeth Banks as friends (not lovers) in desperate need of money who decided to shoot an amateur film and sell it to the neighbourhood to get out of their troubles. Presumably here they are scouting for their porno co-stars, or taking notes from a stripper...

Maybe it's the Valentines day mood, or the fact that it tried something different with the romantic comedy formula but I kinda liked Definitely, Maybe when I didn't really expect too.

Set in New York and changing the usual structure of a formulaic romantic comedy, Definitely, Maybe is told mostly in flashback by loving father Will Hayes (Ryan Reynolds) as he gets cajoled by his daughter Maya (Abigail Breslin) after her first and premature sex education lesson at school, into telling her the story of the three big romances of his life, changing all the names of the women involved so that Maya would have to keep guessing over which one is her actual mother. The intent of course is to keep the privacy of those involved but also to keep Maya interested in the story and it's a neat framing device for us an audience.

Thankfully the three women aren't overly stereotyped. There's his childhood sweetheart Emily (Elizabeth Banks), the flirtatious young April (Isla Fisher) ...
