I'm a little gaga over the idea of David Gordon Green's medieval stoner adventure fantasy/comedy Your Highness, his quick re-teaming with his Pineapple Express actors James Franco and Danny McBride. I think it's gonna be insane - a tongue-in-cheek period Monty Python style satire with crazy special effects, and filled with those cooky images that made up those messed up 80's fantasy films. Movies like Krull or even Princess Bride.

The kind of flicks that you always half-suspected the guys making them were stoned to the eyeballs, because the movies themselves were trippy as hell.

Today, thanks to a Natalie Portman fansite we get our first look at the movie and indeed Portman, pictured above. At least we think it's Portman... Gotta be, right?

/film have the plot...
For those of you who don’t know, David Gordon Green is following up his stoner action movie Pineapple Express with a stoner medieval comedy called Your Highness, also starring James Franco and Danny McBride. Ben Best wrote the script, which features “an arrogant, lazy prince (McBride) who must complete a quest to save his father’s kingdom.” Franco plays Bride’s relatively more heroic brother, Zooey Deschanel is his bride, and Portman is a warrior princess who is ...

Once you get past Harry Knowles ejaculating over the prospect of David Gordon Green's (THE PINEAPPLE EXPRESS) epic fantasy/comedy YOUR HIGHNESS, a movie he surprisingly hadn't heard of previously despite a big write up about it last May... there is actually some news to be found in his article.

Knowles' has the scoop that James Franco, Green's drugged up dealer from THE PINEAPPLE EXPRESS will star in the movie (and the next bit is out Columbo like deducing) as the "prince who smokes weed and fights dragons.” YOUR HIGHNESS will lense soon on sound stages at Belfast for Universal Pictures.

Another PE alumni, Danny McBride who co-wrote the flick with Green's FOOT FIST WAY writer Ben Best will also star.

Last year Green described the fantasy comedy as such...
“It’s a medieval movie, so we want a bunch of Ray Harryhausen ‘Clash of the Titans’ effects. We’ve been watching ‘Beastmaster’ and ‘Yor, the Hunter From the Future.’ We want to make a movie on a big scale, but utilizing pre-CGI effects like matte painting, animatronics, and puppets. It’s about a prince who smokes weed and fights dragons.”
Loved PINEAPPLE EXPRESS personally, so my ticket is already bought for this one. And we all know Franco can act ...

David Gordon Green (SNOW ANGELS, THE PINEAPPLE EXPRESS) will direct an adaptation of the Steve Niles horror/thriller Dark Horse graphic novel FREAKS OF THE HEARTLAND at Overture Films.

First time scribes Peter Sattler and Geoff Davey will adapt the novel for screen. Niles whose 30 DAYS OF NIGHT was transformed into a late 2007 studio horror, is also producing according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Illustrated by Greg Ruth, Niles' six-part 2004 series about the horrible secret of a rural Middle American town involves Trevor Owen's attempts to protect his "monster" of a 6-year-old younger brother and Gristlewood Valley's other "freaks" from their parents' worst instincts.
Reading a review of the comic's first issue at Read About Comics, they say the most impressive aspect of the tale is Niles' ability to provoke an atmosphere of fear into an unknown menace.

Like Gordon Green as a director but thought he mis-fired with THE PINEAPPLE EXPRESS but then was that really a movie he should have ever directed anyway? Love to see what he could do with horror... especially straight laced TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE style horror.

Back in March it was confirmed that hot up and coming Indie darling David Gordon Green whose latest movie Pineapple Express opens in the U.S. tomorrow was set to remake a movie he adored - Dario Argento's classic 70's shocker Suspiria.

Remaking an absolute classic so early in your career seemed like suicide and even Green couldn't quite fathom why he was directing a remake of one of his favourites saying it "didn't make sense" but he just couldn't help himself.

We've since heard nothing about this project until this week where Bloody Disgusting ran an article claiming Natalie Portman was being lined up to topline. Reps for her official website are denying the claims according to AICN but BD are sticking 100% behind their story.

Though they do confirm nothing has been signed or sealed... yet.

Jessica Harper starred in the original movie, one of the best - if not the best movie horror maestro Argento has ever made.

We will have more on this as it develops.

David Gordon Green once again proves to be a director you really can't predict what his next film project will be.

From the well received Indie cult drama Snow Angels - to the Judd Apatow gangster/drug comedy The Pineapple Express - to a comedy set in a fantasy world straight out of Princess Bride which will begin production in January for Universal Pictures.

The movie is titled Your Highness and it is co-written by Green's college roomate and frequent collaborator Danny McBride who will star in the film. He will play an arrogant, lazy prince who must complete a quest to save his father's kingdom. The other noted scribe is Ben Best, one of the writers on The Foot Fist Way.
"This is such an original idea for a comedy that takes place in a kingdom with dragons and wizards, with Danny at the center as the outcast brother who gets an opportunity to prove himself,"
And from a little bit of Internet research, it seems he spoke about the project a few weeks back, offering us this fantastic quote...
"It's a medieval movie, so we want a bunch of Ray Harryhausen 'Clash of the Titans' effects. We've been watching 'Beastmaster' and 'Yor, the Hunter ...

There's always a new Judd Apatow movie on the horizon. You can't avoid them guys, he has too many people wanting to jump onto the bandwagon.

Opening in August (Sept for UK) is The Pineapple Express, a strange choice of film for the critically acclaimed indie director David Gordon Green who looks to give us his take on Pulp Fiction with his comedic drugs/gangster flick.

If you missed the brilliant red band trailer, you can see it HERE.

Well worth a look!

Seth Rogen, James Franco, Danny McBride and Amber Heard are the main players and the pretty lame first poster can be seen below. Still lots of time for the guys to come up with something better because there ain't no way I would ever be interested in this movie if I knew nothing about it and only saw this...

UPDATE: Has the trailer been removed? I can't seem to access it anywhere.

As strange as it is to see art house film-maker Darren Aronofsky direct a movie titled THE WRESTLER, it may be even stranger to note that David Gordon Green, the critically acclaimed and talented director of SNOW ANGELS and GEORGE WASHINGTON is a directing a comedy for Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Judd Apatow... the three guys who cooked up SUPERBAD.

The movie is titled PINEAPPLE EXPRESS and it stars Seth Rogen and James Franco (who looks awesome here by the way) as two stoners who begin the movie in a typical Apatow comedy before stumbling into a thriller and falling into something way over their heads. The trailer looks a little all over the place, but there's enough interest here to grab my attention.

Did Seth Rogen really do that death from above stunt?

Red-Band trailer below (uncensored) but it's not for it's sexual imagery or violence. It's for the weed...

Look for this one in August (U.S.) and September (U.K.).source - cinema blend
