I attempted to track down the Monday released 10th anniversary U.K. edition of Fight Club on Blu-Ray yesterday and as of right now, I would rate my chances of this title arriving at my door on/or before the start of next week as lying between 63-67%.

I know the name of the P.R. lady dealing with the request (Nina) but as sometimes happens when it comes to the crunch time of getting hold of releases, it has gone a little quiet.
The Playlist, lucky buggers, have had their copy for a whole week. It was released in the States last Tuesday.

Fight Club Blu-Ray is available to buy
from Amazon UK at £14.98
Director David Fincher, always a huge supporter of the DVD industry, has provided some new material for the release, one of which is a hilarious prank...
Fincher was heavily involved in the 10th Anniversary BD and as you may know, is a bit of a prankster. As a fun gag for the Fight Club fans, Fincher wanted the Fight Club Blu-ray Disc to begin with "a fake menu" of a romantic comedy from the same year as Fight Club, as a trick on the audience. "Never Been Kissed" was his top choice and ...

Once David Fincher is done directing the facebook movie (still find it so strange that he makes THAT movie at this stage of his career, but I'm oddly looking forward to it), the A-list helmer, one of the biggest in the business right now, is set to return to the dark, macabre, psychological thriller genre that made his name.

And he will do it with two guys who went a long way towards making his career back in the day.

The Hollywood Reporter say Fincher is to re-team with writer Andrew Kevin Walker and producer Michael De Luca (head of New Line at the time) some 15 years after they shocked cinema with the smart, genre changing and in subsequent years, frequently ripped off thriller Se7en, which stands proud today as one of the most important and well aged films of the 90's.

This time it won't be from a highly original Walker script, but instead an adaptation of Max Ehrlich's popular at the time but now long out of print 1973 novel The Reincarnation of Peter Proud. Film is setup at Columbia and it's even got a hint of Hitchcock's Vertigo about it, so my head is now infused with images of ...

According to what seems to be a legit rumor at Script Shadow, David Fincher has cast the main players of his surprise next feature, The Social Network - the drama about the founders of the Internet guggernaut Facebook.

And actually as I write this, I've just stumbled across The Playlist who can confirm that all three of these guys have gone through a script reading with casting director Laray Mayfield and"however none are set in stone, and one — who we won't mention by name — wasn't exactly loved by the notoriously picky director". No prizes for guessing who after you see the three names.

The supposed cast are...

Jesse Eisenberg, a kind of a surrogate Michael Cera who starred in Adventureland, and will play Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

Andrew Garfield who has done some terrific work in the U.K. on the Red Riding trilogy that screened earlier this year and is pretty darn amazing in Boy A, will play co-founder Eduardo Saverin. His role is pivotal to the whole movie as Saverin was the guy who was "betrayed" as the title of the book The Accidential Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook - A Tale of Sex, Money, Genius and Bertrayl upon which this film ...

Details began to emerge yesterday that David Fincher's next movie post-Oscar nomination for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button might be in the world of online social networking.

Variety has him in "advanced talks" with Columbia Pictures to make The Social Network, which is the Facebook movie that Aaron Sorkin (Charlie Wilson's War, A Few Good Men) has been scripting and we spoke about in August.

The movie will cover the creation of the online phenomenon in 2004 and the life of Harvard sophomore Mark Zuckerberg (so it won't be a movie about people poking friends). It will be an adaptation of Ben Mezrich's upcoming non fiction novel The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook, a Tale of Sex, Money, Genius and Betrayal.

It doesn't surprise me at all that this movie is coming from Mezrich's blueprint, as I mentioned back in August the story potential is just the same as it was for 21, which was based on his memoir Bringing Down the House.

Another connection is that Kevin Spacey and Scot Rudin have crossed over to produce this movie too so you can begin to get a grasp of what this film is going to be like.

But what interest for Fincher? What is it about this material ...

Back in March of last year news came through the grapevine that David Fincher was going to team up with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman to produce an animated feature based on 70s fantasy/erotica magazine Heavy Metal. At the time there was a fair amount of speculation as to which directors would be invited along to helm each of the film’s segments, with some hints that big names might be interested in contributing for what would be a relatively short gig.

According to an interview with Eastman published over at Film School Rejects, they have secured some of the names he must have been hinting it. We now know the line-up will include the likes of James Cameron, Zack Snyder and Gore Verbinski, in addition to Fincher himself with more to come. Extremely heavy metal indeed.

Heavy Metal was around well before my time, so I mainly know of it through its reputation, but a magazine which offered graphic sex and violence, a comic book adaptation of Paradise Lost and interviews with Roger Corman and Federico Fellini is clearly a force to be reckoned with. Add the visionary talents of people such as Cameron and Fincher to the equation and it ...

I forgot David Fincher was producing a big screen animated adaptation of THE GOON. I guess because it's animated, we rarely hear about developments such as who gets cast until late in the day, so this project wasn't cropping up every couple of months to remind me it was being made.

AICN over the weekend had our first look at the movie, which looks extremely faithful to the graphic novel. It looks like a straight adaptation of Eric Powell's genius, and that makes me happy...

Powell is only producing. I have been unable to find out who is directing the picture but I wouldn't rule out either Fincher or Powell.

For those who haven’t read The Goon, it’s a spectacular mix of 40’s gangster and sci-fi pulp. It’s like Hellboy in that sense, if the character was played and lived in the universe of James Cagney. The supernatural edge comes with the many battles against ghosts, apes and made scientists.

The movie is being made by Blur Studio's, their first feature animated movie and the quality of their work looks mighty impressive.

I also like the almost 30's film noir look. It doesn't just look like a graphic novel on screen but looks like a film version of the ...

Eric Roth, the screenwriter who adapted F. Scott Fitzgerald's THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON for director David Fincher tells Coming Soon that he loved what Fincher did with the serial killer movie ZODIAC so much that he is trying his best to get him attached to his latest screenplay.

That being THE DEVIL IN THE WHITE CITY, Roth's script about the first serial killer in the U.S. based on Erik Larson's New York Times Best Seller...

"Fincher's actually interested in it," said Roth, "I want to do a whole thing showing how skyscrapers were built. I love the fact that, in Chicago, there's no low ground to put skyscrapers in. There's just water. They do this special thing where they actually squash -- I don't know how to describe it. But I want to show that like he did in "Zodiac" with the Transamerica building going up. That kind of thing."
The novel focuses on the World Columbian Exposition of 1893 where one of the main characters is H.H. Holmes, the first documented serial killer in America. Another is Daniel Burnham, the architecut and mastermind of the exposition.

Wiki says...

Holmes would use the fair to lure his victims to their death. Dr. Holmes ...

In a feature length interview with Empire discussing his new movie THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON, director David Fincher talks about various projects he is still interested in making, including FERTIG, a project I have googled a IGN entry going as far back as August 2000.

Back then William Nicholson's (GLADIATOR) script had caught the eye of Tom Cruise but since 2002, Fincher has been eyeing Brad Pitt for the film.

FERTIG based on the biography of middle-aged American civil engineer-turned-World War II guerrilla fighter Wendell Fertig who with a small team of Americans refused under orders to surrender and led thousands of Filipinos in a seemingly hopeless war against the Japanese.

It's one of the most famous individual stories from the end of the Second World War as the team literally became the most resourceful guys alive to fight without equipment or artillery.

Fincher tells Empire the movie could be "huge" and one of the "five greatest movies ever made" if they can just nail down a script...
I think all of the criticisms levelled at the script, up until this point, have been valid ones, but I also think it's just one of the great fucking stories. I talk with Robert Towne ...

Variety have posted their reviews for David Fincher's THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON and both their top dogs Todd McCarthy and Anne Thompson had extremely similar reactions to the movie.

In summation, they both found the movie to have an odd "cold" aspect to it (which ZODIAC also carried I believe but it is the Fincher style we have become use to is it not?) with a wonderfully satisfying love story and poignancy at it's heart.

Though both claim the movie needs some luck if it's going to be a success for Paramount. You can see the critics reviews after the new international trailer which debuted over the weekend and has me totally excited for this movie...

Todd McCarthy...
"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" represents a richly satisfying serving of deep-dish Hollywood storytelling. An example of the most advanced technology placed entirely at the service of story and character, this significant change-of-pace from director David Fincher poses some daunting marketing challenges, even with Brad Pitt atop the cast. Strong critical support will be needed to swell interest in this absorbing, even moving, but emotionally cool film, which is simultaneously accessible and distinctive enough to catch on with a large public if luck ...

Amazingly, because I think the movie looks incredible, every time I read feedback from those that have seen substantial footage from David Fincher's next movie THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON, it's always been incredibly negative.

I know /film weren't impressed when they saw a twenty minute chunk of the movie earlier in the year at the Telluride Film Festival and Jeffrey Wells who saw the same footage, called it "vaguely underwhelming."

Now IndieWire are voicing their dislike of the movie, which they have seen in full. You can read the site's comments after these new posters I stumbled across at The Playlist...

IndieWire's Eugene Hernandez...
"While I feel that “Benjamin Button” is, on first viewing, hardly a lock for best picture, the attention that will justifiably be paid to its considerable technological achievements could sweep it into the higher profile categories. (”Forrest Gump” was popular with the Academy and there are some parallel’s here). But, as I was telling a friend today, for a much more striking and beautiful marriage of technology and ideas, I’d encourage folks to watch “WALL-E” again."
Peter Knegt, also from IndieWire says:
"It is almost certain to get tons of artistic and technical nods, and maybe that will help it ...

Belated marketing has finally started to kick in for two movies that I'm very much anticipating but have been saddened by the lack of marketing coverage so far.

Those movies being THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON from director David Fincher and DEFIANCE from Edward Zwick.

BENJAMIN BUTTON opens on Christmas Day in the U.S. and I believe this is actually the first poster artwork from the movie, it sure seems like Paramount are very unsure of how to promote this movie.

Which is disappointing because the only trailer we have seen so far which you can still see in HD was absolutely stunning and you have two of the biggest stars of both their respective sexes right now in Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett.

Thanks to Fincherfanatic via /film.

Second is DEFIANCE, the new Daniel Craig movie which has certainly been over-shadowed by QUANTUM OF SOLACE...

James Bond versus the Nazi's?

Awesome. Thanks to IESB for this one.

DEFIANCE opens on limited release in the U.S. on Dec. 31st and in the U.K. from Jan. 9th.

David Fincher's next film will probably be TORSO, the adaptation of the Image Comics series that revolves around the real life investigator Elliot Ness, solving the "Torso Murders" of 1934 to 1938.

Ness was of course Kevin Costner's character in Brian De Palma's 1987 classic, THE UNTOUCHABLES.

Similar to Fincher's ZODIAC, the comic revolves around the investigation and hunt to track down the serial killer terrorising, in this case, the Cleveland Area. The killer would leave ONLY the torso's of his victims, thus making them nearly unidentifiable before DNA testing.

Producer Bill Mechanic says filming could begin as early as March and says the rumor of Matt Damon playing Ness is "probably true". Great casting choice I'd say, he certainly has the same qualities Costner brought to the role in the 80's.

Furthermore, Mechanic claims Ehren Kruger's screenplay takes many diversions from the series and may even go by a new title.
You can see the whole video interview at Collider.
Fincher's THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON opens this Christmas.

Paramount Pictures have released a second and much longer trailer for David Fincher's upcoming sci-fi drama THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON.

The movie stars Brad Pitt in the spectacular story of a child born with the physical attributes of an 80 year old man who lives life aging backwards. Beginning in 1918 New Orleans, we see his life and the world around him change, and a blossoming romance with Cate Blanchett who he meets when she is just a teenager, and he is an old man.

The trailer pretty much showcases the whole film and the direction the movie is going to go, which is a little unfortunate but you can't help but be sucked in by this fascinating story.

The CGI on Pitt looks particularly amazing, I love the atmosphere that Fincher is able to create.

A must see for me. The movie opens on Christmas Day in the U.S. and a week later in the U.K.

The four decade unsolved Zodiac case involving the killings of at least 8 victims in the San Fransisco Bay Area in the 60's and 70's which last year garnered renewed interest after a fascinating film from director David Fincher, may be officially solved in just a matter of days according to reports.

The FBI have confirmed to CBS13 that they are now running laboratory tests that may link suspect Jack Tarrance to the killer, given to them by his own stepson Dennis Kaufman, claiming he recently found the black hooded disguise worn by the killer during the 1968 Lake Berryessa attack...

"The identity of the Zodiac Killer is Jack Tarrance. He's my stepfather," says Dennis Kaufman.
Kaufman has been obsessed for the whole of this decade with trying to prove his step father was the real killer and not Arthur Leigh Allen (died 1992) who Fincher clearly pointed the finger at in his critically acclaimed film. He claims to have once got his step father to indirectly confess to the killings (which he has on tape apparently) and he became even more convinced the year Tarrance died (2006) when he went through is belongings and found suspicious items such as a bloodied knife.

I can't express how incredibly excited I am to see David Fincher's follow-up to Zodiac, the much anticipated sci-fi/drama The Curious Case of Benjamin Button which re-teams the director with his Fight Club and Se7en star Brad Pitt.

The movie is an adaptation of a 1920's F. Scott Fitzgerald short story where our lead Pitt starts aging backwards, which has disastrous consequences for his life, specifically his relationship with Cate Blanchett.

The movie whose colour scheme and feel looks like a blending of Cronenberg's Eastern Promises mixed with Shyamalan's Unbreakable but with Fincher's ever distinct mark.

This pretty epic sized t.v. spot aired during the Olympic Games on Sunday night, sadly it ain't the best quality but it's actually the most footage we have seen of the movie so far. I believe it even gives us more glimpses at the film than the trailer.

Look for it on December 19th (U.S.) and 22nd January (U.K.)

Man, I really hope they get The Goon right.

The only way I can describe the project is if you imagine the seedy world hinted at in Who Framed Roger Rabbit but if it were made with the modern day sophisticated animated CGI and instead of Bugs Bunny and the WB clan - they have monsters, ghosts, vampires and the supernatural like from Hellboy.

A very early "in production" poster turned up for the project at Comic Con and can be seen below.

Extremely faithful it is to the source material and I think it's just so God damn beautiful. David Fincher is producing the project right now, let's hope he can be convinced to direct it.

What a slightly strange movement in cinema we are having right now. Spielberg doing CGI Tintin, Zemeckis doing CGI Christmas Carol, Burton doing CGI Alice in Wonderland and Fincher doing CGI Goon!

Who would have thought it?

Now this is cool news...

THEGOON.COM is proud to announce that THE GOON has been optioned by acclaimed director and producer DAVID FINCHER and Academy-Award nominated BLUR STUDIO to develop as a CG animated feature film with Dark Horse Entertainment.
It's easy to presume that Fincher won't be directing however, as he has no less than six projects on the go including Hungry Rabbit Jumps with Tobey Maguire, Heavy Metal (with the same studio as this new project), an adaptation of the graphic novels Black Hole Torso & The Killer and the one we have all wanted to see him make for sometime - the sci-fi movie Rendezvous with Rama.

For those who haven't read The Goon, it's a spectacular mix of 40's gangster and sci-fi pulp. It's like Hellboy in that sense, if the character was played and lived in the universe of James Cagney. The supernatural edge comes with the many battles against ghosts, apes and made scientists.

Universal who have a first look deal with Dark Horse Comics that was acquired in March (when I said The Goon had to be made!) are expected to finance the film.

Very exciting news.

Keanu Reeves, the A-list star of the mega flop that was Street Kings has revealed that he has a movie in the works that could find David Fincher soon attached to direct.

And get this. It's a movie about a Chef!
“I’ve just been trying to create my own work and the chef film Davis Fincher’s taking a look at, so that’s pretty exciting”.
That's gotta be a serial killing chef, or something? I doubt we are set for another No Reservations style rom-com set in the kitchen.

Other projects Reeves is developing are...

Passengers - a "cosmic love story" which is he discussing with Notting Hill director Roger Michell.

Henry's Crime - a mysterious movie from the writer of The Terminal which the pair have been working on writing for the last couple of years now.

Reeves is currently filming the remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still before moving onto the drama The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, writer Rebecca Miller's adaptation of her own novel which co-stars Robin Wright Penn, Winona Ryder, Monica Bellucci, Alan Arkin, Maria Bello & Julianne Moore.

David Fincher, Tim Hill (Alvin and the Chipmunks), Kevin Eastman (co-creator of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and five or six unassigned other directors are each helming an animated segment based on the 70's erotica and fantasy magazine Heavy Metal, before being pieced together and released theatrically as an R-rated adult themed flick.

Fincher is spearheading the project at Paramount Pictures. Eastman is the current owner and publisher of the magazine...

The project titled Heavy Metal, will be reminiscent of the erotic and often very violent storylines that the magazine which debuted in the U.S. in 1977 was best known for. The image above is the cover from the very first issue of the magazine which should tell you everything you need to know about it's content.

You might be surprised to know that this isn't actually the first time the magazine has been made into a movie.

Also titled Heavy Metal, a low budget 1981 animated flick was the brainchild of then publisher Leonard Mogel and the work flow was expedited by having several animation houses working simultaneously on different segments. So I guess Fincher's crew are basically remaking the idea and concept of that 80's feature.

Like the magazine, the film has an unusual ...
