The subject for Danny Boyle's first post-Oscar movie will be the extraordinary depths of the human spirit as Variety say he will next film climber Aron Ralston's story, a young guy who made the headlines in 2003 when he cut off his own arm to survive after six days of being trapped under an 800 pound boulder during a lone hike in Utah. His weapon of choice; a large swiss army knife!!

Ralston, with one arm left and the other broken, after nearly a week without food, with barely any water or sleep... then had to rappel down a 65-foot sheer wall and hike out of the canyon in the hot midday sun to safety.

Boyle teams with Fox Searchlight, and the movie will be titled 127 Hours. In what will surely be a great platform for a young actor to grab the opportunity of a lifetime to win an Oscar, Boyle is said to have challenged Ryan Gosling to take the part. Gosling is 28, Ralston was 27 during the ordeal. What an opportunity for Gosling, Oscar nominated for Half Nelson in 2007 and who has had a tough time in Hollywood since, a high profile firing on the set of ...

Not that I particularly take any news story that originates from The Sun as being newsworthy and don't think for a second I believe today's story that Danny Boyle has been offered the gig of directing the next James Bond movie...

...BUT...

he would be an interesting choice wouldn't he?

I know I was in the minority by praising QUANTUM OF SOLACE for it's fresh approach to the Bond genre but honestly, I will take a kick-ass Bond movie that doesn't stick firmly to the rigid formula any day over the same tired old 007 movies that plagued the series for years.

I know SOLACE had it's critics but I don't particularly want to see CASINO ROYALE everytime I see a Bond movie.

I love the idea of seeing something different every couple of years. Like the ALIEN franchise, I love that each movie feels different and the reason for that is they kept hiring talented directors with their own personal voice. What's wrong with every new Bond movie being a showcase for that particular director's vision?

And if means one day we might see Quentin Tarantino direct a Bond movie, isn't that worth it?

Marc Forster on QUANTUM OF SOLACE was an inspired choice, though he ...

Empire, out of sheer luck, have got themselves quite an interesting scope after an innocent user chat with Brit director Danny Boyle revealed that the SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE helmer has recently been offered the chance to remake Chan-Wook Park's 2005 revenge movie LADY VENGEANCE...
I was just asked to do a remake of Lady Vengeance, the one after Oldboy. My favourite is Audition.
VENGEANCE being the last of Chan-Wook Park's Asian trilogy that began with SYMPATHY FOR MR. VENGEANCE and followed through with OLDBOY.

It tells the story of Lee Guem-ja who after a 13-year imprisonment for the kidnap and murder of a 6 year old boy, starts seeking revenge on the man that was really responsible for the his death.

Of course the movie is shockingly violent, extremely stylistic, beautiful to look at and clearly well made but I remember being very disappointed with it after the huge high I got from watching OLDBOY. Moved a bit too slow for my liking.

Presumably Boyle's comments hint towards him turning it down. Next up for him is probably going to be 28 MONTHS LATER.

Positive, mostly.

At its heart SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE is a strange beast; it wears it’s rough and ready credentials within the framework of a slick, albeit highly enjoyable, fairytale. It’s alien landscape is a large part of the fascination and also a major reason why we view it with such easy admiration, everyone likes to see something new; and I did find myself wondering that had the story had been set in Philadelphia with Shia LaBeouf we would probably still give plaudits to its charm and vibrancy, but perhaps not to the award-worthy extent now shown.

Jamal Malik is an 18 year old orphan from Mumbai’s streets and is just one last question away from winning the big 20 million rupees prize on India’s version of ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire?’; but before his big showdown he’s arrested on suspicion of cheating and over the course of a night he tells the police the extraordinary story of his itinerant street life with his brother Salim, religious violence, adventures in survival, the girl Latika he loved and lost. Jamal apparently has no interest in money, so what’s he doing on the show, and how does know all the answers?

The saga of who will be directing 28 MONTHS LATER continues and the latest scoop is that it may end up back with Danny Boyle, the original helmer of the first movie in the series 28 DAYS LATER and who first talked about the possibility of returning in July 2007.

Since then we've heard the movie has been on and off again. At one point the word was Paul Andrew Williams (director of the low budget horror THE COTTAGE) was going to direct but that turned out to be false. Now Boyle's latest comments dated Nov. 7th during a group interview in Beverly Hills, CA, indicates that Boyle wants back in on this franchise...
I’d certainly like to…I feel the idea is quite a strong idea, and it could well involve directing it. Yeah, absolutely.

I’ve got an idea for it, so I can’t really tell you any more than that at the moment, but hopefully that might happen.
The Playlist believe the situation is if Boyle is free whenever the script is complete and greenlit, he will direct it. Otherwise he will find someone else, like he did with hiring Juan Carlos Fresnadillo on the last movie when he was busy with SUNSHINE.

Now ...

The PG-13 rating for the extremely intense and majorly adult themed blockbuster THE DARK KNIGHT will forever be a thorn in the MPAA side I believe, especially in the near future if they keep flexing their muscles and slapping unfair ratings to uplifting tales like SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE.

There is no excuse for it. The MPAA were scared of the backlash giving Batman, a very popular character with kids, an R-Rating and hampering a massive audience for a major Warner Bros. production but when it's a small Fox Searchlight drama, they just don't care... because the backlash won't affect them.

It's a disgusting policy and I have great sympathy for director Danny Boyle who told Cinematical about how disappointed he was with how the situation turned out.
No, actually, I was very disappointed. What happens is when you make a film, you sign a contract with the studio or whoever is financing it and there are several stipulations -- like it has to be under two hours or what have you -- and one of the things that's in there is that it has to be a certain certificate (aka rating). And we all agreed that it would be a PG-13 or less. And ...

I haven't seen Danny Boyle's latest movie SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE yet, about a young poor kid from India who makes an attempt at cracking their version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire in an attempt to win back the love of a girl he lost but I can't imagine it contains any scenes which would warrant an R Rating.

Seriously. Can the movie possibly be more adult themed than THE DARK KNIGHT? The official MPAA decision is MILLIONAIRE has been given the R Rating for "some violence, disturbing images and language."

Give me a break!

Cinematical, who have seen the film... claim the movie has several uses of the F-Word, a couple of intense moments and some non-graphic violence but nothing anyway near enough to warrant such a rating which would block teenagers from seeing this uplifting movie.

As seems to be the case with everything in life, it's one rule for the big guys and another entirely for the smaller ones. Where Warner Bros. with their Batman flick had knifes to mouths, a huge suggestion of violence both visually and aurally, several gunshots, suggestion violence to children, a man's face burning in half, etc... Fox Searchlight's picture seems to have been punished for ...

The great news coming out of the Stiges Film Festival (no, I've never heard of it either) is that Paul Andrew Williams, the director of the low budget British splatter THE COTTAGE is being lined up to direct 28 MONTHS LATER.

That's the third part of the "LATER" series of zombie movies which seems to be taking it's cue from the cinema of George A. Romero by continually moving forward and changing the landscape environment of the zombie afflicition as it spreads throughout the world.

28 MONTHS LATER was briefly spoken about just after 28 WEEKS LATER opened but despite WEEKS LATER being majorly well liked by those who saw it (I was damn near in love with the movie last May), a sequel was not put into motion for because it didn't make enough money.

But since then Danny Boyle has been vocally active about getting the series up and running again and they may well have convinced a studio there is still lots of life left in this franchise. And I would agree, the way the last movie ended I would love to see the invasion on other countries and the the idea of a 28 YEARS LATER is just so ...

Fox Searchlight have released several images from Danny Boyle's next movie Slumdog Millionaire, starring young British actor Dev Patel (Skins) as an 18 year-old orphan from poor Mumbai who takes on their version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

Problem is, he is so God damn clever, the show producers suspect him of cheating! No 18 year old from a poor corner of India could be that intelligent and win so much money, which sets the rollercoaster of events of him trying to prove his innocence

It would seem that Boyle is using a gimmicky narrative where the movie is told at various stages of the boy's life (adventures on the road, the girl he loved and lost, violent encounters with gangs) which will be told in a segment relating to a question on the show.

Presumably each 15-20 minute segment will end with or begin with a new question.

Surprisingly the movie is the first I know of to feature the popular worldwide quiz show and from the first image they have done a terrific job of making it look authentic.

Really great and sentimentally sweet plot for a movie, actually reminds me of a Nick Hornby novel. It actually comes from the ...

[rating: 3]

Danny Boyle’s latest pic SUNSHINE is an entertaining science fiction film that offers much promise, goes halfway there but then chickens out just when it begins to get interesting. The film is “original” in that its not based off a former work but it certainly feels assembled out of parts of other sci-fi cornerstones: namely SOLARIS, with touches of ALIEN, 2001, and even the save-the-world blockbuster ARMAGEDDON. There’s this strange undercurrent in the film that we’ve sort of seen the whole thing before. The plot revolves around a group of people on a mission to detonate a nuclear bomb on the dying sun and thus re-generate it; a crew attempted the same mission seven years earlier but they mysteriously vanished. En route to the sun, around Mercury, they discover the derelict spacecraft of their predecessors, and wrestle with cabin fever, tragic accidents and the mysterious nature of what the sun actual ...
