Eli Roth's "movie within the movie" of INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS is a Nazi propaganda movie titled PRIDE OF THE NATION which stars Frederick Zoller, a deadly sniper who is said to have killed many Russians and has a celebratory like status in his home country for being a respected solider and popular leading man. He is played by Daniel Bruhl.

PRIDE OF THE NATION plays a massive part of INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, the premiere showing of the movie is the framework for one of the film's acts. Quentin Tarantino gave his great friend and one of the stars of the movie, HOSTEL director Eli Roth, the camera and a budget to film some extensive and authentic scenes which we will see glimpses of in the final cut. Roth, naturally, decided to shoot "over the top" scenes which hopefully we will get to see in their entirety on some kind of DVD release in the future.

For now, we get this promotional artwork for PRIDE OF THE NATION thanks to Quentin Tarantino Archives...

With the movie set to premiere at Cannes and open in August, we are barely a few months away from seeing some heavy and extensive marketing for this film. We are likely to ...

Again, it's hard to go indepth on this without bringing up spoilers but for those who have read the script, you will know what the "film within the film" reference means for INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS.

Ah, I guess its not a spoiler, I will tell you anyway. In Tarantino's film, Frederick Zoller, one of the Nazi's in the movie who will be played by Daniel Bruhl, is actually on his way to becoming a film star and has led several movies for the propaganda film-maker Joseph Goebells, including one as a Nazi sniper on a suicide mission. Now in INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, we get to see some of his work from this "film" during scenes in a movie theatre.

Now it turns out Quentin Tarantino didn't just hire Eli Roth for his acting skills (he is playing the very significant part of "The Bear Jew") but he also hired him for his directing talents. It would seem Roth has been shooting this segment over the last few weeks in Germany with Bruhl and German extra's and this explains the absence of Tarantino from much of the spy set photo's that have leaked online.

Well that is until now, when someone has snapped Tarantino showing ...

Footage from the filming of Quentin Tarantino's WW-II movie INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS has been leaked online from the shoot out in Goerlitz, Germany.

Quentin Tarantino Archives say...
The scene being filmed here is part of the movie within the movie, with Daniel Bruhl's character Fredrick Zoller being up in the buildings somewhere sniping GIs.
You can see that scene below...

Quentin Tarantino might be coming closer to filling that big German role in his World War II epic Inglorious Bastards, the role which Leonardo DiCaprio was to be offered until the director decided he wanted an actual German actor to play the part.

The Guardian say that 30 year old Daniel Bruhl (The Bourne Ultimatum) and 45 year old veteran Til Schweiger (King Arthur, Lara Croft 2) have met with Quentin about the role.

Bruhl...

Schweiger...

Meanwhile Tobia Kneibe a German film critic said after reading the script (which can you believe is still on my desk, left unread after about eight weeks?)...
"This is pop culture meets Nazi Germany and the Holocaust with an unprecedented force,"
Shooting is set to begin at Potsdam Babelsberg studios west of Berlin on October 13.
